10 Chapter 1 Inserting an MMC/SD Card Y ou r camera has 1 6 MB of internal memory . However , optio nal MMC/SD cards provide removable, reusable st orage for pictures an d vide os. CAUTION: CAUTION: CAUTION: CAUTION: The card can only be inse rted one way; forcing it may damage the camera or card.
11 Chapter 1 Choosing Internal Memory or MMC/SD Card The camera offers two options for storing pict ures and videos: Internal Memory — Store pictu res and videos in 16 MB internal memory . MMC/SD Card — Store pi ctures and videos o n a card. The numbe r/length of pictures/videos depends on th e size of the card.
12 Chapter 1 Checking Y our Storage Setting In Still an d Video modes , the st orage location icon t hat appears in the status area indicates the camera ’ s storage locatio n. T o check the location, either: m T urn the Mode dial from the Off position, or m In any cap tu re m ode , pre ss .
13 2 T aking Pict ur es The came ra is ready to take pictur es anytime it is on — even if you are i n Review , Share, or Setup. (In Video mode, the camera captures video.) Bef ore you take a picture, make sure the storage location is set the way you want it (see page 11 ).
14 Chapter 2 Picture-Taking Mod es Use this mode For Auto Gene ral pictur e-taking . Automatical ly sets exposure, focus, and flash. Sport Subjects that are in motion. Shutter speed is fast. Night Night scenes or lo w-light cond itions. Place the camera on a flat, steady surface or use a tripod.
15 Chapter 2 Liveview — Framing with the Camera Screen When you turn on Liveview , the camera screen displ ays a live image of what the lens sees. Use the camera screen to frame your subject. IMPORT ANT : Live vie w quic kly de plet es ba tter y power ; use it sparin gly .
16 Chapter 2 Using the Auto F ocus Framin g Marks In Liveview , the framing marks i ndicate the area of your scene that the camera is focu sing on . For th e best po ssible pi ctures, t he cam era attemp ts to f ocus on foreground subjects, even if the subjects are not centered in the scene.
17 Chapter 2 Quickview — Reviewing the Picture Just Taken After you take a picture, the camera screen d isplays a Quickview of tha t picture for approximat ely 5 seconds. While the picture is displaye d, you can: m Review it: If you take no actio n, the pictur e is saved.
18 Chapter 2 Using the Optical Zoom Use Optical Zoom t o get up to 3X closer to your subject . Optical zoom i s effective when t he lens is no clo ser than 23.6 in . (60 cm) to the su bject. When you turn on the camera, the lens extends to the Wide Angle position.
19 Chapter 2 Using the Fl ash Use the flash when you ta ke picture s at night, in doors, or outd oors in heavy shadows. You can change the flash setting in any Still mo de; the default f lash setting is restored when you exit the mode or turn off the camera.
20 Chapter 2 Flas h Setti ngs in Each Mo de For the best possible pictures, flash settings are pre-set for each capture mode. * When you chan ge to Red-eye in these mode s, it remains unti l you change it or tur n off the ca me ra.
21 Chapter 2 Putting Yourself in the Picture The Self T imer creates a 10-second delay between the time you press the Shutte r butto n and the time the picture is take n. 1 Place the camera on a flat surface or u se a tripod. 2 In any Still mode , press the Self T imer butto n.
22 Chapter 2 Taking a B urst Series of Pictures Burst lets you to take up to 4 pictures in quick succession (app roximate ly 3 frames per seco nd). Burst i s ideal for capturing sp orting event s or obj ects in motion. Flash and Self T imer are disabl ed when you use Burst.

74 Chapter 10 Shor t batt ery life with Kodak EasyShare Ni-MH rechargeable battery pack. Dirt or ox idation on the battery c ontacts. Wipe the contac ts with a clean, dry cloth ( page 97 ) before loading batteri es in t he cam era. Shut ter bu tto n does not wo rk.
75 Chapter 10 In Review mo de, you do not see a picture (or t he expected pi cture) on the camera screen. The camera may not be accessing the correct storage location. Check the p icture storage location setting ( page 11 ). In Review mo de, a blue screen is displayed instead of a pi cture.
76 Chapter 10 Picture is too ligh t. The flash is not needed. Change to A uto flash or Flash Off ( page 19 ). The subj ect was too close for flash. Move so t here is at least 2 ft (0.6 m) b etween camera and subject. The li ght sensor i s covered. Hold the camera so your hands or other objec ts do not c over the light sensor ( page i ).
77 Chapter 10 Picture is not clear. The le ns is di rty. Clean the le ns ( page 94 ). Subject too close when taking pict ure. Move so t here is at least 23.6 in . (60 cm) between the camera and the subject, or at least 5.1 in. (13 cm) at Wide in Close-up mode.
78 Chapter 10 Camera/Computer Communications Problem Cause Solution The computer cannot communicate with th e camera. There is a problem with the co nfigura tion of the USB port on the computer. See this file o n the Ea syShare softwar e CD: US B.html Or, go t o: www .
79 Chapter 10 MMC/SD Cards and Internal Memory Cannot tr ansfer pictures. (The Add New Hardware Wizard cannot locate drivers.) Softwa re is not inst alled . Disconnect US B cable. (If u sing camera dock, d isconnect cable and remove camera from dock).
80 Chapter 10 Camera Screen Messages Memory card full Storage is full. Transfer pictures and videos to the computer ( page 61 or page 6 9 ), then delete them from the camera. The maximum number of fil es or folders is reached (o r other directory concern).
81 Chapter 10 Internal memory requires formatting The camera i nternal memory is corrupted. Format the i nternal memory ( page 56 ). Caution: Formatt ing erases all pic tures and video s, includ ing p rote cted f iles. (Formatting internal memory also erases email addresses and album names.
82 Chapter 10 Memory card is unusable (Insert a ne w memory card) The card is slow, corrupted, or unreadable. Insert a new card ( page 10 ). Recording stop ped. Record i n interna l memory (Memory card speed i s slow) Card cannot be used to take videos.
83 Chapter 10 No album names on camera (Connect with computer to import album names) Album names ha ve not been c opied to the camera from the computer.
84 Chapter 10 Camera Ready Light Status Status Caus e Solutio n Ready light does not turn on and the camera does not work. Camera is not t urned on. Turn on the camera ( page 6 ). Bat teri es ar e exhausted. Recharge the battery ( page 68 ) or instal l new ones ( page 97 ).
85 Chapter 10 Ready light blinks yellow. Flash is not charged. Wait. Resume picture taking when the light stops bl inki ng and turns green. Auto exp osure or auto focus are not locked. Release the Shut ter button and recompose t he pict ure. Ready ligh t blink s red.
