Here is a brief explan- ation of the use of the symbol. Understanding Dryer Safety This symbol alerts you to hazards such as fire, electrical shock, or other injuries.
4 Understanding Dryer Safety IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS W ARNING – T o reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, or injury to persons when using the dryer, follow basic precautions, including the following: • Read all instructions before using the dryer.

6 Y our dryer must be properly installed and vented to achieve maximum drying ef ficiency and shorten drying times. Install your dryer in a well-ventilated room where the temperature is always above 45°F (7°C). Also make sure that your dryer is leveled.
7 Venting (cont.) 5. Use duct tape to seal all joints. Do not use screws to secure vent. Lint may catch on screws. 4. Use the straightest path possible when routing the exhaust vent. Avoid 90° turns, if possible. Allow room when using elbows or making turns.
8 T o get the best dryer results possible, you must use your dryer correctly . This section tells you how to use your dryer properly and efficiently . Starting your dr y er Operating Your Dryer Before using your dryer , wipe the dryer drum with a damp cloth to remove dust from storing and shipping.
9 Operating Your Dryer Starting your dryer (cont.) 6. Push the Start Button. Stopping and restar ting y our dr yer Y ou can stop your dryer anytime during a cycle. T o stop your dryer: Open the dryer door or turn the Cycle Control Knob to Off. NOTE: The Cycle Control Knob should point to an Off area when the dryer is not in use.
10 Use the Regular/Heavy Automatic cycle for heavyweight and mediumweight cotton items, such as towels, linens, bedspreads, work clothes, blue jeans, and corduroys. • Set your T emperature selector to Hi or Med Hi heat. • Use the T owels feature when you have large loads of thick towels to dry .
11 Timed Dr y cycles Use the T imed Dry cycle to complete drying if some items are damp after Automatic drying. The Timed Dry cycle is also useful for: • Heavyweight and bulky items, such as bedspreads and work clothes, and large loads that require a long drying time.
12 Air T umble cycle Use the unheated Air T umble cycle for items that require drying without heat. Since this cycle has no heat, the T em- perature selector setting will have no effect. The following chart includes examples of items that require drying without heat.
13 Using the dr ying rack Models KEYS777E and KGYS777E include a drying rack. On models KEYS677E and KGYS677E, you can order a drying rack by calling 1-800-422-1230 , from anywhere in the U.S.A. Y ou will hear a record- ing. Follow the instructions to place an order .
14 Proper care of your dryer can extend its life and help your dryer operate efficiently . Cleaning the lint scr een Ev er y load cleaning The lint screen is located under a lid on top of the dryer . Clean it before each load. A screen blocked by lint can increase drying time.
15 Lint signal The lint signal (a whistle tone) indicates excessive lint is present on your lint screen or it has a residue buildup. See page 14. A full lint screen restricts airflow and reduces drying efficiency . When you hear the signal, stop the dryer and clean the lint screen.
16 Changing the drum light Y our dryer’s drum light may be one of 2 types, as shown. The dryer light automatically turns on inside the dryer drum when you open the door . T o change drum light type 1: 1. Unplug the dryer or disconnect the electricity leading to the dryer at the main power supply .
17 Remo ving accum ulated lint fr om inside the dr y er cabinet Caring for Your Dryer Lint can gather inside the dryer and be a fuel for fire. Lint should be removed every two to three years, or more often, depending on dryer usage. Cleaning should be done by a qualified person.

19 Most laundering problems are easily solved if you understand the cause. Check the following list for common laundry problems and the next page for common dryer problems . If you need further assistance, see “Requesting Assistance or Service” on page 21.
20 Common dryer problems Troubleshooting 1. Dr y er will not star t. Is the dryer door firmly closed? ▼ Are the controls set in a ON position? ▼ Did you firmly push the Start Button? ▼ Is the power cord plugged in? ▼ Have you blown a fuse or tripped the circuit breaker? Electric dryers use 2 household fuses or breakers.
