P age 8 1 P ART NAMES AND FUNCTIONS CONCER T MAGIC Press the CONCERT MA GIC button to enjo y listening to or performing a collection of pre-programmed piano songs . Concer t Magic will provide the correct melody and accompaniment notes, regardless of which ke ys are pressed.
P age 9 1 P ART NAMES AND FUNCTIONS HEADPHONE JA CKS There are two headphone jacks located on the left underside of the piano , allowing up to two pairs of headphones to be connected simultaneously . MASTER VOLUME This slider controls the master volume le vel of the built-in speakers and headphones.
P age 10 2 GETTING ST ARTED 2. GETTING ST AR TED 1) BASIC OPERA TIONS This section provides the basic procedures f or tur ning the power on and pla ying the CN21 piano. Step 1 Connect one end of the A C power cab le to the piano's pow er jack and the other end of the cab le to a wall A C outlet.

P age 12 2 GETTING ST ARTED SELECTING A SOUND When power is turned on, the Concer t Grand sound will be selected automatically . There are 15 sound types and three methods to select diff erent sounds. ¡ Method 1 Press and hold the SOUND SELECT button, then press one of the lo west 15 white ke ys to select a specifi c sound.
P age 13 2 GETTING ST ARTED 2) DU AL The DU AL function allows two preset sounds to be la yered together , creating a more complex sound. F or example , a piano can be layered with strings, or a church organ with a choir sound.
P age 14 2 GETTING ST ARTED 3) METR ONOME The CN21 piano's metronome tool helps learners to practice playing the piano at the correct tempo b y providing a steady beat to pla y along with. Step 1 Press the METR ONOME button to star t the metronome.
P age 15 2 GETTING ST ARTED ADJUSTING THE METRONOME TEMPO The metronome has a tempo range of 10-300 beats per minute . The metronome tempo can be specifi ed precisely , or gradually decreased or increased.

P age 18 2 GETTING ST ARTED SKILLFUL These songs range in diffi culty from moderately diffi cult to diffi cult. T o perf or m them, tap out the rh ythm of both the melody and the accompaniment notes on any k ey on the k eyboard, such as ‘Waltz of the Flo wers’ shown below .
P age 19 3 LESSON FUNCTION 3. LESSON FUNCTION The CN21’ s Lesson function helps performers to practice the piano with a collection of etudes from Czerny and Burgmüller , or songs from Alfred’ s Basic Piano Librar y (USA, Canada, A ustralia and UK only).

P age 21 3 LESSON FUNCTION ¡ LISTENING T O THE RIGHT -HAND P AR T OF A LESSON SONG Step 1 Press and hold the LESSON b utton, then press the SOUND SELECT button. The LED indicator f or the SOUND SELECT button will remain fl ashing, but the LED indicator f or the METRONOME b utton will tur n off .
P age 22 4 RECORDER 4. RECORDER The RECORDER function records perf or mances in a similar wa y to that of a tape recorder . Ho we ver , the CN21 piano records songs as digital data, instead of audio data - storing the music inside the instrument, and providing a useful tool f or both practicing and playing the piano .
P age 23 4 RECORDER 2) PLA YING BA CK A SONG Step 1 Press the PLA Y/ST OP b utton to star t pla ying the recorded song. Press the PLA Y/ST OP button again to stop pla yback. If the REC button is pressed again to start recording, the previously recorded song will be ov erwritten by the new song.

FUNCTION MODE The Function Mode provides access to man y other useful features of the CN21 piano . 1) BASIC OPERA TIONS Step 1 Press and hold the METR ONOME and SOUND SELECT buttons at the same time , then press one of the 15 low est ke ys assigned to the desired function.
P age 25 FUNCTION MODE 5 2) SELECTING A T OUCH TYPE When pla ying a piano , the volume of the sound produced increases in direct relation to ho w hard each key is struck. The TOUCH function allo ws different touch sensitivities f or the ke yboard to be selected, other than the standard touch of an acoustic piano .
P age 26 FUNCTION MODE 5 4) TUNING The TUNING function allows the piano’ s pitch to be fi nely adjusted, and may pro ve useful when pla ying with other instruments. The f actor y default v alue is set to the moder n standard A = 440.0 Hz and can be adjusted in 0.
P age 27 FUNCTION MODE 5 6) CONCER T MA GIC MODE The CN21 piano off ers two wa ys to enjoy Concert Magic. ¡ Mode 1 Mode 1 categorises each of the 44 Concer t Magic songs into one of three diff erent arrangement types, depending on the skill le vel required to perf or m them.
P age 28 FUNCTION MODE 5 In order to e xchange MIDI information with another MIDI instrument, the two connected instruments must be set to the same channel. Step 1 Press and hold the METR ONOME and SOUND SELECT buttons at the same time , then press the ke y assigned to the MIDI CH function.
P age 29 FUNCTION MODE 5 9) TURNING MUL TI-TIMBRAL MODE ON/OFF The procedure described in the MIDI CHANNEL SELECT section is used to transmit or receive data on only one of the 16 MIDI channels (CH 1 - CH 16).
P age 30 FUNCTION MODE 5 10) TRANSMIT MIDI PR OGRAM CHANGE This function determines whether or not the CN21 piano will transmit program change inf or mation when sound types are changes. It is also possib le to transmit a program change n umber (ranging from 1 to 128) in order to change the sound type of an e xter nal MIDI sound source.
