6 Getting Started Supplied Accessories Make sure that y ou have all the follo wing items. 8 RL AUX L R L R Speaker grille T o remo ve the speaker grille, insert your f ingers at the top of the speaker grille, pull to wards you. Then pull the bottom tow ards you. T o attach the speaker grille, put the projections of the speaker grille into the holes of the speaker .
9 Common Operations Setting the Clock Before operating the unit any further , f irst set the unit ’ s clock. When you plug the A C power cord into the wall outlet, “ 0:00 ” starts flashing on the display . Y ou can set the clock whether the unit is on or of f.
10 Adjusting the Volume Y ou can adjust the volume le vel only while the unit is turned on. The v olume le vel can be adjusted between “V OL MIN” and “V OLUME 1” – “V OLUME 40 (V OL MAX). ” On the remote contr ol: Press V OLUME + to increase the v olume or press V OLUME – to decrease it.
11 Selecting the Display Color (ONL Y FOR UX-J60) Y ou can select the display color (COLOR 1 – COLOR 5 and A UT O mode). • A UT O mode changes the color (COLOR 1 to COLOR 5) gradually .
12 Listening to FM and AM (MW) Broadcasts T uning in to a Station 1 Press FM/AM to select the band . The unit automatically turns on and tunes in to the pre viously receiv ed station — either FM or AM (MW). • Each time you press the button, the band alter nates between FM and AM (MW).
13 T uning in to a Preset Station On the remote contr ol ONL Y : 1 Press FM/AM to select the band . The unit automatically turns on and tunes in to the pre viously receiv ed station — either FM or AM (MW). • Each time you press the button, the band alter nates between FM and AM (MW).
14 Changing the RDS Information Y ou can see RDS information on the display while listening to an FM station. On the remote contr ol ONL Y : Press DISPLA Y (orange-color ed).
15 How the Enhanced Other Networks function actually works: CASE 1 If there is no station br oadcasting the prog ram you hav e selected The unit continues tuning in to the current station. « When a station starts broadcasting the program you hav e selected, the unit automatically switches to the station.
16 Playing Back Discs This unit has been designed to play back the follo wing discs — CD, CD-R, and CD-R W . When playing a CD-R or CD-RW User-edited CD-Rs (CD-Recor dable) and CD-R Ws (CD-ReWritable) can be played only if they are alr eady “ finalized .
17 Basic Disc Operations While playing a disc, you can do the follo wing operations. T o stop playing for a moment During play , press CD 3 / 8 . While pausing, the elapsed playing time flashes on the display . T o resume playing, press CD 3 / 8 again.
18 Repeating T racks — Repeat Play Y ou can hav e all the tracks, the program or individual track currently playing, repeat as many times as you lik e.
19 Playing Back T apes Y ou can play back type I tapes. Playing Back a T ape 1 Press PUSH OPEN 0 on the unit. 2 Put a cassette in with the exposed part of the tape down. 3 Press PUSH OPEN 0 again to close the cassette holder . 4 Press T APE 2 3 . The unit automatically turns on and the tape starts playing.
20 Recording Recording on a T ape On the unit ONL Y : 1 Put a recordable cassette in with the exposed part of the tape down. 2 Close the cassette holder gently and check the recording dir ection f or the tape. • If the tape direction is not correct, press T APE 2 3 twice then 7 to change the tape direction.
21 Disc Direct Recording Everything on the disc goes onto the tape in the order it is on the disc, or according to the order you ha ve set in Program Play . On the unit ONL Y : 1 Put a r ecordable cassette in with the exposed part of the tape down. 2 Load a disc.
22 Using the T imers There are three timers av ailable — Daily T imer , Recording T imer , and Sleep Timer . Before using the timers, you need to set the unit ’ s clock (see page 9). Using Daily Timer and Recor ding Timer Y ou can set the timer whether the unit is on or of f.
23 5 Press UP or DO WN to set the volume le vel, then press CLOCK/TIMER. • Y ou can select the volume le vel ( “ V OLUME – –” and “ V OLUME 0 ” to “ V OLUME 40 ” ). If you select “ V OLUME – – , ” the volume is set to the previous le vel when the unit w as turned off.
24 Maintenance T roubleshooting If you are ha ving a problem with your unit, check this list for a possible solution before calling for service.
