3 About discs This system has been designed to play back the following d iscs: D VD V ideo (D VD), V ideo CD (VCD), Super V ideo CD (SVCD), Audio CD, CD-R and CD-R W . • This system can also play back MP3 and JPEG files recorded on CD-Rs and CD-R Ws.
About discs 4 IMPORTANT Before playing a disc, make sure of the follo wing; • Check the connection with the TV. • Turn on your TV and select the corr ect input mode on th e TV to view the pictures or on-screen information on the TV screen. • For DVD playback, you can change the initial setting to your preference.

8 Getting started • Do not connect the A C power cord until all other connections ha ve been made. • Since dif ferent components often ha ve different terminal names, carefully read the instructions supplied with the components y ou are going to connect.
Getting started 9 Connecting the FM an d AM (MW) antennas Make sure the antenna conductors do not touch an y other terminals, connecting cords and power cords.
Getting started 10 Connecting the powered subwoofer Connect the supplied powered subwoofer (SP- PWM45) using the system cord (supplied). • Connect the system cord b y matching the 5 marks on the plugs to the ones on th e center unit and po wered subwoofer .
Getting started 11 7 Connecting the sate llite (front, center, surround) speakers Be sure to identify each speaker (SP-THM45C/SP-THM45F/SP-THM 45S) and connect them to the co rresponding terminals of the powered subwoofer .
Getting started 12 Connecting to an analog component Y ou can enjoy the sound of an analog component such as a VCR, TV , or Cassette recorder with this system.
Getting started 13 Connecting the power cord Make sure that all connections have been completed, before plugging in the po wer cords of the center unit and powered subwoofer . CAUTION • Disconnect the power cord before cleaning or moving the system.

17 Basic operations This section mainly explains operations co mmonly used when you enjoy this sys tem. • T urn on your TV and select the correct input mode on the TV . IMPORTANT Before using the remote control for the following operation, • Set the remote co ntrol mode selector to A UDIO .
Basic operations 18 On the remote contro l: Press one of the source selecting buttons (DVD, FM/AM, AUX or TV SOU ND). DV D : T o play back a disc (DVD, V ideo CD etc.). ( A pg. 21, 23) FM/AM : T o tune in an FM or AM (MW) station. ( A pg. 25) Each time you press the b utton, the band alternates between FM and AM (MW).
Basic operations 19 IMPORTANT Before using the remote control for the following operation, • Set the remote control mode selector to A UDIO . Y ou can dim the indications on the display window and the illumination lamp le vel on the center uni t. On the remote control: Press DIMMER .
Basic operations 20 Y ou can adjust the output le vel within th e range from –10 to 10. On the remote contro l: Press S.WFR +/–. NOTE • You can also make adjustments using the choice menu shown on the TV screen. ( A pg. 52 ) • The adjustm ents on a source take effect for the other sources.
21 Playback This section explains basic operations of D VD player . For more details about D VD player operations, see pages 35 to 47. • show s the types of discs the operation is av ailable for . • T urn on your TV and select the correct input mode on the TV .
Playback 22 NOTE • You can also start playback by pressing 3 (play button) or DVD . • Regardless of the operation for st arting playback, the system plays back all available discs sequen tially until you stop playback. However, the system stops playback after playback of the disc in the fifth tray.

T uner operations 26 2 Press MEMORY. The channel number position st arts flashing on the display window for about 5 seconds. While the channel numbe r position is flashing: 3 Press number button(s) (1-10, +10) to select a channel number. The channel number and the CH indicator start flashing.
T uner operations 27 RDS allows FM station s to send an additional signal along with their regular program signals. For example, the stations send their station names, as well as inform ation about what type of program they broadcast, such as sports or music, etc.

Creating realistic sound fields 32 Creating sound field All Channel Stereo All Channel Stereo (ALL CH ST .) mode can reproduce a larger stereo sound fi eld using all the c onnected (and acti vated) speakers. All Channel Stereo can be used while reproducing 2 channel stereo source.

NOTE Before you start operation; • The VFP setting screen disappears if no operations are done for more than about 10 seconds.
