3 Basic Connections CHECK CONTENTS 1 Make sure the package contains all of the accessories listed in “Specifications” ( Z pg. 30). SITUA TE RECORDER 2 Place the recorder on a stable, horizontal surface. CONNECT RECORDER TO TV 3 The connection method you use depends on the type of TV you have.

6 T uner Set INITIAL SETTINGS (cont.) Y our recorder needs to memorise all necessary stations in channel positions in order to record TV programmes. Once stored, you can call them up with the TV PROG. buttons without going through any vacant channels.
7 SELECT POSITION 6 Press TV PROG. 5 / ∞ until an open position in which you want to store a channel appears, then press OK . STORE CHANNEL 7 If fine tuning is not necessary , simply press STORE . For fine tuning adjustment, press TV PROG. 5 / ∞ until the picture becomes clearer, then press STORE .
8 INITIAL SETTINGS (cont.) Fine-T uning Channels Already Stored TURN ON THE RECORDER 1 Press OPERA TE . ACCESS CHANNEL SET MODE SELECT SCREEN 2 Press and hold CH SET for more than 2 seconds. The Channel Set Mode Select screen appears. SELECT MODE 3 Press TV PROG.

10 PLA YBACK Basic Playback The easiest, most basic operation possible with your video recorder is tape playback. Already-recorded signals on a video tape are read by your video recorder and displayed on your TV just like a TV programme.
11 Playback Features High-Speed Search ACTIV A TE HIGH-SPEED SEARCH 1 Press FF for forward high-speed sear ch, or REW for reverse high-speed sear ch. ● For short searches, press and hold FF or REW for over 2 seconds. When released, normal playback resumes.
12 q 6 5 / 8 2 3 PLA YBACK (cont.) Instant ReView Simply by pressing a single button, the recorder power comes on, rewinds, and begins playback of the last timer -recorded programme. If you have several programmes recorded, you can easily access any of them.
13 T ape Position Indicator The tape position indicator appears on screen when, from the Stop mode, you press FF , REW or perform an Index Sear ch. The position of “ 5 ” in relation to “0” (beginning) or “+” (end) shows you where you are on the tape.
14 TV signals being received by the recorder ’s built-in tuner can be recorded onto a video tape. Y ou can “capture” a TV programme using your video recorder .
15 Record One Pr ogramme While W atching Another SELECT CHANNEL TO W A TCH 1 Once recording is in progress, all you need to do is to set the channel controls on the TV for the station you wish to view . ● The programme selected with the TV’ s channel controls appears on the TV screen while the one selected with the TV PROG .
16 The G-Code timer programming system eliminates the need to input channel, date, start and stop time data when setting the timer record function. Simply key in the G-Code number for the TV program you wish to record (found in most TV listings) and the recorder’s timer is automatically programmed.

18 G-Code Timer Pr ogramming TIMER RECORDING (cont.) Before performing G-Code timer recording, be sure to read "G-Code Setup" ( Z pg. 16). Before performing the following steps: ● Insert a cassette with the safety tab in place. The recorder will come on automatically .
19 NOTES: ● Y ou can programme this recorder to timer -record as many as 8 programmes. T o record the extra programme, you must first cancel any unnecessary programmes ( Z pg. 21, "Check And Cancel Programmes"). ● For safety , your recorder disables all other functions while in the T imer mode.
20 Regular Timer Pr ogramming Before performing the following steps: ● Insert a cassette with the safety tab in place. The recorder will come on automatically . ● T urn on the TV and select the VIDEO channel (or A V mode). Remember , the clock must be set before you can programme the timer ( Z pg.
21 ENTER CHANNEL POSITION 6 Press TV PROG. 5 / ∞ to select the channel you wish to record. SET T APE SPEED 7 Press SP/LP to set the tape speed. ● For each additional programme, press PROG. and repeat steps 3 – 7 . RETURN TO NORMAL SCREEN 8 Press PROG.

24 TROUBLESHOOTING Before requesting service for a problem, use this chart and see if you can repair the trouble yourself. Small problems are often easily corrected, and this can save you the trouble of sending your video recorder off for repair . POSSIBLE CAUSE ● The mains power cord is discon- nected.
25 TIMER RECORDING CORRECTIVE ACTION Re-perform the clock and/or timer settings. Press TIMER and confirm that “TIMER“ is displayed on the display panel. T imer programming can’t be performed while a timer recording is in progress. W ait until it finishes.
26 PLA YBACK Q. What happens if the end of the tape is reached during playback or search? A. The tape is automatically rewound to the beginning. Q. Can the video recorder indefinitely remain in the still mode? A. No. It stops automatically after 5 minutes to protect the heads.
