3 SAFETY PRECAUTIONS T o avoid electrical shoc k or damage to the unit, first firmly insert the small end of the power cord into the A C Adapter until it is no longer wobbly , and then plug the larger end of the power cord into an A C outlet.

6 GETTING STARTED 1) Hook the end of the battery pack to the camcorder and push the battery in until it locks in place. • If the battery pack is attached wrongly , a malfunction may occur . 2) Set the P ower Switch $ to “OFF” while pressing down the Loc k Button # .
7 GETTING STARTED • The follo wing steps hav e the same function as “REFRESH” ( pg. 6). 1) Attach the battery to the camcorder with no cassette inserted. 2) Set the P ower Switch $ to “ ” or “ ” while pressing down the Loc k Button # .
8 GETTING STARTED 1) Separate the V elcro strip. 2) P ass your right hand through the loop and grasp the grip . 3) Adjust so that your thumb and fingers can easily operate the Recording Start/Stop Button " and P ower Zoom Le ver 3 . Refasten the V elcro strip.
9 RECORDING/PLAYBACK Set REC MODE, S-VHS (S-VHS ET), T APE LENGTH and D A TE/TIME. ( pg. 12 – 16, “ MENU SETTINGS ” ) 1) Remov e the lens cap. Set the P ower Switch $ to “ ” or “ ” while pressing down the Lock Button # . Shooting while using the view fi nder: Make sure the LCD monitor is closed and lock ed.
10 BASIC FEATURES T o increase the brightness of the subject relative to the background. 1) Press BACKLIGHT ( during recording. “ ” < is display ed and the subject is brightened. 2) T o cancel Backlight Compensation, press BACKLIGHT ( again. “ ” < disappears.
11 BASIC FEATURES • If the playbac k picture is distor ted when TBC is set to on, turn off TBC . 1) Make sure all units are turned off . 2) Connect the camcorder to a TV or VCR. If using both TV and VCR, connect the VCR output to the TV input. 3) T ur n on all units .

13 MENU SETTINGS LIGHT : The camcorder’ s light is on and the shutter speed is automatically adjusted (maximum 1/2 sec.). • During Night-Scope, the f ollowing cannot be activated: “Picture Stabiliser”, “Programme AE With Special Eff ects”, “Digital Eff ects” and “S.
14 MENU SETTINGS Allows y ou to set the recording mode. “LP” (Long Play) is more economical, pro viding twice the recording time. • If the recording mode is s witched, the playbac k picture will be blurred at the s witching point.
15 MENU SETTINGS SYSTEM MENU 1 Allows y ou to set the tape length depending on the tape used: T30=30 minutes, T45=45 minutes, T50=50 minutes, T60=60 minutes. • T ape remaining time / is correct only if the correct tape length has been selected. FULL: Makes all of the indications appear on the LCD monitor/viewfinder during pla yback or recording.
16 MENU SETTINGS • This function is cancelled when the pow er is turned off or when the cassette is ejected. • T o use this function, it is recommended that SCROLL in TITLE SETUP ( pg. 14) be set to “OFF”. ON: With an S-VHS cassette , “S” = appears and the camcorder records in S-VHS.
17 USING THE REMOTE CONTROL UNIT The Remote Control Unit can operate this camcorder from a distance as well as the basic operations (Pla yback, Stop , Pause , F ast-Forward and Rewind) of y our VCR. Make sure the remote control is pointed at the remote sensor .
18 TROUBLESHOOTING Before consulting y our JVC dealer , please check the f ollowing to see if y ou can correct the problem yourself . V ertical white lines appear when shooting a very bright object. • This sometimes occurs when the contrast between the back-g round and the object is great.
19 CAUTIONS General Battery Precautions Please make note of the f ollowing rules f or batter y use. When misused, the batteries can leak or explode . 1) Do not use any diff erent size of batteries from those specified. 2) Be sure to insert batter ies in the correct direction.
