4 EN Do not point the lens or the viewfinder directly into the sun. This can cause eye injuries, as well as lead to the malfunctioning of internal circuitry . There is also a risk of fire or electric shock. CAUTION! The following notes concern possible physical damage to the camcorder and to the user.
EN 5 PROVIDED ACCESSORIES NOTE: In order to maintain optimum performance of the camcorder , provided cables may be equipped with one or more core filter . If a cable has only one core filter, the end that is closest to the filter should be connected to the camcorder .
6 EN Automatic Demonstration takes place when “DEMO MODE” is set to “ON” (factory-preset). 䡲 Automatic Demonstration starts when there is no operation for about 3 minutes after the Power Switch is set to “ A U TO ” or “ MANUAL ” and no cassette is in the camcorder.

8 EN NOTES: ● If the protective cap is attached to the battery pack, remove it first. ● During charging, the camcorder cannot be operated. ● Charging is not possible if the wrong type of battery is used. ● When charging the battery pack for the first time or after a long storage period, the CHARGE lamp may not light.
EN 9 A TTENTION Before detaching the power source, make sure that the camcorder ’ s power is turned off. Failure to do so can result in a camcorder malfunction. NOTES: ● Recording time is reduced significantly under the following conditions: • Zoom or Record-Standby mode is engaged repeatedly.
10 EN GETTING ST ARTED (cont.) Grip Adjustment 1 Separate the V elcro strip. 2 Pass your right hand through the loop and grasp the grip. 3 Adjust your thumb and fingers through the grip, to easily operate the Recording Start/Stop button and Power Switch and Power Zoom Lever .
EN 11 Date/T ime Settings The date/time is recorded onto the tape at all times, but its display can be turned on or of f during playback ( 墌 pg. 48, 49). 1 Set the Power Switch to “ MANUAL ” while pressing down the Lock Button located on the switch.
12 EN GETTING ST ARTED (cont.) Loading/Unloading A Cassette The camcorder needs to be powered up to load or eject a cassette. 1 Slide and hold OPEN/EJECT in the direction of the arrow then pull the cassette holder cover open until it locks. The cassette holder opens automatically .
EN 13 Recording Mode Setting Set the tape recording mode depending on your preference. 1 Set the Power Switch to “ MANUAL ” while pressing down the Lock Button located on the switch. The power lamp lights and the camcorder is turned on. 2 Press the MENU/BRIGHT wheel in.

EN 17 JOURNALISTIC SHOOTING In some situations, dif ferent shooting angles may provide more dramatic results. Hold the camcorder in the desired position and tilt the LCD monitor in the most convenient direction. It can rotate 270 ° (90 ° downward, 180 ° upward).

EN 19 FEA TURE: Video Light PURPOSE: T o brighten the scene when natural lighting is too dim. OPERA TION: Set LIGHT OFF/AUT O/ON as required: OFF : T urns of f the light. AUT O : Automatically turns on the light when the camcorder senses insufficient lighting on the subject.
20 EN Time Code During recording, a time code is recorded on the tape. This code is to confirm the location of the recorded scene on the tape during playback. If recording starts from a blank portion, the time code begins counting from “00:00:00” (minute:second:frame).

38 EN IMPORT ANT Some Fade/Wipe Effects cannot be used with certain modes of Program AE with special effects ( pg. 36, 37). If an unusable Fade/Wipe Effect is selected, its indicator blinks or goes out. Fade/Wipe Effects These effects let you make pro-style scene transitions.

42 EN Exposure Control Manual exposure adjustment is recommended in the following situations: • When shooting using reverse lighting or when the background is too bright. • When shooting on a reflective natural background such as at the beach or when skiing.
EN 43 White Balance Adjustment A term that refers to the correctness of color reproduction under various lighting. If the white balance is correct, all other colors will be accurately reproduced.
44 EN For Recording Menu This camcorder is equipped with an easy-to-use, on-screen menu system that simplifies many of the more detailed camcorder settings ( 墌 pg. 45 – 47). 1 Set the Power Switch to “ MANUAL ” while pressing down the Lock Button located on the switch.

62 EN USING THE REMOTE CONTROL UNIT (cont.) For More Accurate Editing Some VCRs make the transition from Record-Pause to Record mode faster than others. Even if you begin editing for the camcorder and the VCR at exactly the same time, you may lose scenes you wanted, or find that you have recorded scenes you did not want.
EN 63 Audio Dubbing The audio track can be customized only when recorded in the 12-bit mode ( 墌 pg. 45). NOTES: ● Audio Dubbing is not possible on a tape recorded in 16- bit audio, on a tape recorded in the LP mode or on a blank portion of a tape.
64 EN Insert Editing Y ou can record a new scene into a previously recorded tape, replacing a section of the original recording with minimal picture distortion at the in and outpoints.

EN 67 DET AILS I T E M S N O T E S ❍ Perform charging where the temperature is between 10°C and 35°C (50°F and 95°F). 20°C to 25°C (68°F to 77°F) is the ideal temperature range for charging. If the environment is too cold, charging may be incomplete.
68 EN If, after following the steps in the chart below , the problem still exists, please consult your nearest JVC dealer . The camcorder is a microcomputer-controlled device. External noise and interference (from a TV , a radio, etc.) might prevent it from functioning properly.
EN 69 CONTINUED ON NEXT P AGE • The cassette is in the wrong position. • The battery’s charge is low . • The memory card is in the wrong position. • The Squeeze mode is selected. • The light source or the subject does not include white. Or there are various different light sources behind the subject.
70 EN TROUBLESHOOTING (cont.) SYMPTOM POSSIBLE CAUSES CORRECTIVE ACTION ^ When shooting a subject illuminated by bright light, vertical lines appear. & When the screen is under direct sunlight during shooting, the screen becomes red or black for an instant.
EN 71 • The light used to illuminate the LCD monitor causes it to become hot. • This may occur when the surface or the edge of the LCD monitor is pressed. • Certain Fade/Wipe ef fects, certain modes of Program AE with special ef fects, “DIS” and other functions that cannot be used together are selected at the same time.
72 EN • During playback of the unrecorded portion, High-speed Search and still playback, LCD monitor indications appear distorted. This is not a defect. • The speaker volume is too great. • Since the analog input mode is engaged, the camcorder is in the Record-Standby mode.
EN 73 • A malfunction of some kind has occurred. In this case the camcorder ’s functions become unusable. • The temperature of the battery is extremely high/low. • Charging is difficult in places subject to extremely high/low temperatures. • This is not a malfunction.
74 EN Cleaning The Camcorder 1 T o clean the exterior, wipe gently with a soft cloth. Put the cloth in diluted mild soap and wring it well to wipe of f heavy dirt. Then wipe again with a dry cloth. 2 Press PUSH OPEN and open the LCD monitor . Wipe gently with a soft cloth.
EN 75 CAUTIONS Video Light DANGER 䡲 The video light can become extremely hot. Do not touch it either while in operation or soon after turning it off, otherwise serious injury may result. 䡲 Do not place the camcorder into the carrying case immediately after using the video light, since it remains extremely hot for some time.
