6 English Getting Started Unpacking After unpacking, check to be sure that you ha ve all the follo wing items. The number in parentheses indicates the quantity of each piece supplied. • AM loop antenna (1) • Remote control (1) • Batteries (2) If any item is missing, consult your dealer immediately .
7 English T o connect AM and FM antennas 1 Connect the supplied AM loop antenna to the AM LOOP terminal. Place the antenna aw ay from the unit and adjust its position for the best reception. 2 Adjust the position f or the FM antenna f or the best reception.
8 English Basic and Common Operations Setting the Clock Before operating the unit any further , f irst set the unit’ s clock. When you plug in the po wer cord, “ AM12:00” starts flashing on the display . Y ou can set the clock when the unit is either turned on or in standby mode.
9 English Selecting the Sound Modes Y ou can select one of the 4 sound modes. • This function also af fects the sound from headphones. • This function only af fects the playback sound, and does not af fect your recording. T o select the sound modes, press SOUND/B ASS repeatedly .
10 English T uning in to a Station 1 Pr ess TUNER/B AND to select either “FM” or “AM. ” The unit automatically turns on and tunes in to the previously recei v ed station—either FM or AM. • Each time you press the button, the band alternates between FM and AM.
11 English Presetting Stations Y ou can preset 20 FM and 20 AM stations manually . In some cases, test frequencies hav e been already stored for the tuner since the factory e xamined the tuner preset function before shipment. This is not a malfunction.
12 English Playing Back the Entire Disc—Normal Play 1 Pr ess 0 OPEN on the unit. The disc cov er opens. • Y ou can insert a disc w hile listening to another source. 2 Place a disc corr ectly with its label side up. 3 Close the disc cov er gently .
13 English Basic Disc Operations While playing a disc, you can do the follo wing operations. T o stop playing for a moment During play , press CD 3 / 8 . While pausing, the elapsed playing time flashes on the display . T o r esume playing, press CD 3 / 8 again.
14 English Playing at Random — Random Play Y ou can play the tracks at random. On the r emote control ONL Y : Press RANDOM bef ore or during playing. The RANDOM indicator lights up on the display . RANDOM T o exit fr om Random Play , press RANDOM again.
15 English For T ape operations, use buttons inside the front co ver on the unit. Playing Back a T ape Y ou can play back type I tapes only . On the unit ONL Y : 1 Open the fr ont cover . 2 Pr ess & / ) (stop/cassette holder open). The cassette holder opens.
16 English IMPORT ANT : • It may be unlawful to recor d or play back copyrighted material without the consent of the copyright owner . • The recording le vel is automatically set correctly , so it is not aff ected by the other sound settings.
17 English Recording Discs — Disc Synchronized Recording Y ou can start disc play and recording at the same time. On the unit ONL Y : 1 Put a r ecordable cassette in with the exposed part of the tape down. • See also page 15. 2 Close the cassette holder gently .
18 English 3 Press TIMER SET . The (timer) and the OFF (of f-time) indicators flash and the of f-time setting appears on the display . If you does not need to change the off-time setting , go to step 5 . • If you change the on-time setting, the off-time setting changes to “– –:– –.
19 English 7 Pr ess TIMER SET . The display changes normal indication and exit the timer setting mode. 8 Pr ess TIMER ON/OFF to acti vate the daily timer mode. Each time you press the b utton, the Daily T imer alternates on and of f. While acti vating the Daily T imer , the (timer) indicator lights up on the display .
20 English Maintenance T o get the best performance of the unit, keep your discs, tapes and mechanism clean. General Notes In general, you will hav e the best performance by keeping your discs, tapes and the mechanism clean. • Store discs and tapes in their cases, and keep them in cabinets or on shelves.
21 English If you are ha ving a problem with your unit, check this list for a possible solution before calling for ser vice. If you cannot solve the problem from the hints gi ven here, or the unit has been ph ysically damaged, call a qualified person, such as your dealer , for service.

8 Français Réglage de l’horloge A vant de continuer d’utiliser l’appareil, réglez d’a bord l’horloge. Quand v ous branchez le cordon d’alimentation, “ AM12:00” clignote sur l’af fichage. V ous pouvez régler l’horloge que l’appareil soit sous tension ou en mode d’attente.

Lors de la lecture d’un CD-R ou CD-RW Les CD-R (CD enregistrables) et les CD-R W (CD réinscriptibles) créés par l’utilisateur peuv ent être reproduits uniquement s’ils ont été “finalisés”.

15 Français Lecture des cassettes TAPE • NE METTEZ P AS l’appareil hors tension pendant la lecture ou l’enregistrement d’une cassette. La platine cassette ou la bande peut être endommagée.
16 Français IMPORT ANT : • Notez qu’il peut être illégal d’enr egistr er ou de repr oduire un matériel pr otégé par des droits d’auteur sans la permission du propriétair e des dr oits. • Le ni veau d’enregistrement est réglé automatiquement au niv eau correct et n’est pas af fecté par les autres réglages sonores.

18 Français Sur la télécommande UNIQ UEMENT : 1 A ppuyez sur TIMER SET . Les indicateurs (minuterie) et ON (heure de démarrage) clignotent et le réglage de l’heure de démarrage apparaît sur l’af fichag e. Si vous n’a vez pas besoin de changer l’heure de démarrage, allez à l’étape 3 .

L ’ aff ichage retourne à la normale et l ’ appareil quitte le mode de r é glage de la minuterie. 8 A ppuyez sur TIMER ON/OFF pour mettr e en service le mode de minuterie quotidienne. Chaque fois que vous appuy ez sur la touche, la minuterie quotidienne est mise alternati vement en et hors service.
