EN 5 DISC INFORMA TION Recordable/Playable Discs Y ou can use discs with the f ollowing logos for recording and play back. ● The above tab le is based on the information as of October 2004. ● Recording and playback ma y not be performed depending on the characteristics and condition of the disc used, leading to unsatisfactory results.

EN 7 DISC INFORMA TION Recording Medium And Format DV D - R A M ● Recording and erasing can be performed as many times as possible on a disc. ● Editing can be perfo rmed after recording, such a s deleting unwanted par ts.
8 EN DISC INFORMA TION DVD VIDEO Marks Sometimes marks are pr inted on a D VD disc and/or on its packaging to indicate inf or mation regarding the contents and functions of the disc. Check the marks indicating the contents and functions of the disc. Note, howe ver , that in some cases a disc may not include a mark e ven for a function it supports.
EN 9 DISC INFORMA TION Care And Handling Of Discs How to handle discs When handling a disc, do not touch the surface of the disc. Since discs are made of plastic, the y are easily damaged. If a disc gets dir ty , dusty , scratched or warped, the images and sound will not be pick ed up correctly , and such a disc may cause the unit to malfunction.

EN 25 BASIC OPERA TIONS ON DVD DECK Locating A Desired Scene Using The DVD Menu D V D VIDEO discs may hav e top menu and disc menu. To p m e n u D VD discs generally hav e their own menus which show the disc contents. These menus contain various items such as titles of a movie, names of songs, or artist information.
26 EN BASIC OPERA TIONS ON DVD DECK Slow Motion 1 Press W to pause during playback. 2 Press SLO W – ( O ) or SLO W + ( N ) f or 2 or more seconds. ● Each press of SLO W – ( O ) or SLO W + ( N ) increases the slow motion speed for each direction.
EN 27 BASIC OPERA TIONS ON DVD DECK Marking Positions To Play Back Again Later It is possible to mark positions (up t o 999 points) where you w an t to play bac k once a gain later , and star t playback from a marked position.
28 EN BASIC OPERA TIONS ON DVD DECK Subtitle Selection Some D VD VIDEO discs contain more than one subtitle language, from among which you can choose the desired subtitle language. A h B appears on the TV screen at the beginning of the par t where more than one subtitle language are recorded.

36 EN BASIC OPERA TIONS ON DVD DECK Instant Timer Recording (ITR) This easy method lets you record f or 30 minutes to 6 hours (selectable in 30 minutes interval), and shuts the unit off after recording is finished. 1 Press R on the unit to star t recording.
EN 37 BASIC OPERA TIONS ON DVD DECK Free Rate Function T o record the entire programme, the unit automatically sets the appropriate recording mode depend ing on the combination of the total time of the programme to be recorded and either the remaining disc space or the s pecified recording time (from 60 minutes to 480 minutes).
38 EN BASIC OPERA TIONS ON HDD DECK 1 Press HDD so that the HDD lamp lights up on the unit. 2 Press PR +/– or the number ke ys to select the channel you wish to record.

EN 41 BASIC OPERA TIONS ON HDD DECK One Touch Replay Y ou can mov e back the pla yback position slightly . Press w . ● Each press skips back f or approximately 7 seconds and resumes pla yback. ● Pressing while paused skips ba ck for appro ximately 7 seconds and resumes pause.
42 EN LI VE M EM O RY P L A YBACK This unit records pictures onto the hard disc and D VD-RAM disc, instead of video tapes, then play s back the pictures recorded on the disc. This makes it possib le to achiev e high-speed wr iting and read-out that has not been possible with conv entional VCRs, enabling recording and play back simultaneously .
EN 43 LI VE M EM O RY P LA Y BACK Buttons To Be Used During Live Memory Playback A LIVE Returns to on air p rogramme screen. When a confirmation message appears by pressing this button during timer programming or title editing, etc., f ollow the instruction to return to the previous screen.
44 EN LI VE M EM O RY P L A YBACK Temporary recording for Li ve Memory (HDD deck only) This unit automatically records the channel being received, within the specified range of time, to the reserved space on the hard disc. The time range can be set for 30 minutes , 1 hour , and 3 hours.
EN 45 TIMER RECORDING Y ou can programme this unit to timer record as many as 16 programmes . With the a system, timer programming is g reatly simplified because each TV programme has a corresponding code number which your unit is ab le to recognise. Y ou can use the remote control to enter the a number .
46 EN TIMER RECORDING Weekly/Daily Recording Y ou can record programmes with one of the follo wing weekly/daily timer settings. For the HDD deck When you select a mode other than ONCE, the space on the hard disk drive is sa ved f or new reco rdings by o verwriting previous recordings.
EN 47 TIMER RECORDING Y ou can programme this unit to timer record as many as 16 programmes . If you do not know the a n umber for the prog ramme you wish to record, use th e f ollowing procedure to set your unit to timer record the programme. 1 Load a recordable disc if recording to D VD .
48 EN TIMER RECORDING Check Programmes T o check the whole list of programmes 1 Press PR OGRAMME to access the programme top screen. 2 Press selection keys to select A PROGRAMME LIST B , then press ENTER . ● The details of a selected programme appear on the top of the screen.
EN 49 TIMER RECORDING This function allows you to aut omatically record a satell ite programme which is timer programmed on y our external sate llite receiver . Conne ct a satellite receiver to the unit’ s [L-2 IN / DECODER] connector and programme the timer on the satellite receiver .
50 EN NA VIGA TIO N The Library Database Navigation enables y ou to search and select the desired titles recorded on the HDD deck and the D VD deck ver y e a si l y . Y ou can record up to 99 titles on a disc. Each time a title is recorded, the information of the title is registered for the Library Database Navigation automatically .
EN 51 NA VIGA TION Scan For Beginning Of Title Y ou can scan the beginning of the title easily with the Library Database Navigation. 1 Press NA VIGA TION . The Librar y Database Navigation screen appears. 2 Press selection keys to select A ORIGINAL B , then press ENTER .

56 EN NA VIGA TIO N Title information can be registered in the unit’ s memor y for up to 600 D VD discs, 2,000 titles. It is hel pful when finding a desired title (or play list) by sorting accordi ng to the sor t options registered during (or after) reco rding.
EN 57 NA VIGA TION This unit can play bac k discs that MP3/WMA sound files and JPEG image files taken with digital still cameras or other de vices are recorded. The MP3/WMA/JPEG Navigation enab les you to search and select the desired files recorded on CD-R/RW or CD-R OM discs very easily .
58 EN EDITING High Speed Dubbing (From HDD To DVD) It is possible to dub the original recordings and/o r play lists on the HDD deck to D VD discs. The dubbing is performed in high speed, keeping the original transf er rate. NOTES: ● After accessing the Dubbing Menu screen, it is not possible to take out a disc.
EN 59 EDITING Manual Dubbing (From HDD To DVD) It is possible to perform dubbing in the desired transf er rate. 1 Load a recordable disc. 2 Press DUBBING to access the Dubbing Menu screen. 3 Press selection keys to select A MANU AL B , then press ENTER .
60 EN EDITING Y ou can dub programmes from a camcorder or D V equipment connected to the unit with a D V cable. The unit’ s remote control allows you the limited control of the connected camcorder or D V equipment functions during dubbing.
EN 61 EDITING 9 Press selection keys to select , then press ENTER . The dubbing star ts. ● Playbac k on the external D V equipment and recording on the unit should star t simultaneously . ● T o pause dubbing, press selection keys to select , then press ENTER .
62 EN EDITING Y ou can use a camcorder as the s ource play er and your unit as the recording deck. 1 Make connections. A If the camcorder has no S-VIDEO output connector : ^ connect the camcorder’s A UD IO/VIDEO OUT connectors to the unit’ s [VIDEO/AUDIO ((MO NO) L/R)] input connectors on the front panel.
EN 63 EDITING Y ou can use your unit as the source pla yer or as the recording deck. 1 Connect another recorder’ s 21-p in SCAR T connector to the unit’ s 21-pin SCART connector as illustrated. A When using your unit as the source pla yer : ^ connect its [L-1 IN/OUT] connector to the recording d eck.
64 EN EDITING L-1 Output And L-1 Input Setting The [L-1 IN/OUT] connector accep ts and deliv ers either a composite signal (regular video si gnal) or a Y/C signal (a signal i n which the luminance and ch rominance signals are separated).

66 EN REMOTE CONTROL Remote Control 1/2/3/4 Code Switching The remote control is capable of controlling four JVC video units independently . Each of the units can respond to one of the four codes (1, 2, 3 or 4). The remote control is preset to send co de 3 signals because your unit is initia lly set to respond to code 3 signals.
EN 67 REMOTE CONTROL Satellite Receiver Multi-Brand Remote Control Y our remote control can operate the basic functions of your satellite receiver set. In addition to JVC satellite re ceivers , other manuf acturer’s satellite receiv ers can also be controlled.
68 EN SYSTEM CONNECTIONS Simple Connections This is an example of a simple connection if your TV has one 21-pin A V input (SCART) connector . Connect the satellite receiver to the [L-2 IN/DECODER] connector , then connect the [L-1 IN/OUT] connector to the T V’ s connector .
EN 69 SYSTEM CONNECTIONS These instructions en able y ou to connect your unit to a Dolby Digital Decoder or an amplifier with built-in DTS. 1 Connect the unit and a Dolby Digital Decoder or an amplifier with built-in DTS using either an optional optical cable or an optional coaxial cable.
70 EN SUBSIDIARY SETTIN GS V arious modes of this unit are categorized into menus nested in 2 lev els shown in the follo wing table . T o change the settings of these modes, find the desired mode in the menu (f or details on each menu, see pages 70 through 72), then f ollow the procedure below .
