– 7 – English 1 If cords are co ver ed with insulation, twist the core of the cord at the end of each cord, then remo ve the insulation. 2 Connect the AM loop antenna to the AM LOOP terminals as illustrated. 3 T urn the AM loop antenna until y ou ha ve the best reception.

– 9 – English Common Operations T urning On or Off the Power T o turn on the unit, press (or ST ANDBY/ON on the remote control) so that the lamp on the button goes of f. T o turn off the unit (on standby), press (or ST ANDBY/ON on the remote control) again so that the lamp on the b utton lights up.
– 10 – English Continued FADE MUTING V O L U M E VOLUME Adjusting the Volume Y ou can adjust the volume le vel only while the unit is tur ned on. The v olume lev el can be adjusted in 32 steps (V OLUME MIN, VOLUME 1 – V OLUME 30, and V OLUME MAX).
– 11 – English The sound modes change as follo ws: When using the remote control, the sound mode changes only clockwise in the abov e sequence. Surround modes* D ANCE : Increases resonance and bass. HALL : Adds depth and brilliance to the sound. ST ADIUM : Adds clarity and spreads the sound, like in an outdoor stadium.
– 12 – English Creating Y our Own Sound Mode — User Mode Y ou can change SEA pattern to suit your preference. The SEA pattern can be adjusted into 5 frequency ranges—LO W1, LO W2, MID, HIGH1, and HIGH2. These changed settings can be stored in the USER 1, USER 2, and USER 3 modes.
– 13 – English Listening to FM and AM Broadcasts T uning in to a Station 1 Press FM/AM. The unit automatically turns on and tunes in to the previously recei v ed station (either FM or AM). • Each time you press the button, the band alternates between FM and AM.
– 14 – English This unit has been designed to play back the follo wing discs: • CD (Audio CD) • CD-R (CD-Recordable) • CD-R W (CD-ReWritable) • MP3 disc (MP3 files recorded on a CD-R or CD.
– 15 – English How are MP3 files recorded and played back? MP3 “tracks (files)” can be recorded in “group”—folders or directories, in PC terminology . During recording, the tracks and groups can be arranged similarly to the tracks and folders/directories of computer data.
– 16 – English Playing Back Discs Loading Discs On the unit ONL Y : 1 Press 0 f or the disc tray (CD1, CD2, or CD3) you want to load a disc onto. The unit automatically turns on and the disc tray comes out. 2 Place a disc correctly on the cir cle of the disc tray , with its label side up.
– 17 – English 3 Select a track to start playing with. 1) Tu r n 4 / ¢ (or press 4 ( 1 ) / ¢ ( ¡ ) on the remote control) to select a group you want, then press CD 3¥8 .
– 18 – English 4 Select a track from the selected disc in step 3 . On the unit: Tu r n 4 / ¢ to select the track number , then press SET/DISPLA Y . On the remote contr ol: Press the number b uttons. • For ho w to use the number buttons, see “T o go to another track directly using the number buttons” on page 17.
– 19 – English Playing at Random—Random Play The tracks of the currently selected disc will be played at random. • T o use Repeat Play (see page 20) for Random Play , press REPEA T after starting Random Play . Only REPEA T 1 and REPEA T ALL can be selected for Random Play .
– 20 – English Prohibiting Disc Ejection—T ray Lock Y ou can prohibit disc ejection from the unit and lock discs. • This operation is possible only when the source is the CD player . On the unit ONL Y : T o prohibit disc ejection, press 0 for any disc tray while holding down 7 .
– 21 – English Y ou can play back type I tapes without changing any settings. Playing Back a T ape 1 Press 0 EJECT f or the cassette deck. 2 Insert a cassette with the exposed part of the tape down. 3 Close the cassette holder gently . 4 Press T APE 2 3 .
– 22 – English Recording Recording on a T ape 1 Press 0 EJECT and insert a r ecordable cassette with the exposed part of the tape down. 2 Close the cassette holder gently . • If you want to record on both sides of a tape, see “T o record on both sides—Re verse Mode.
– 23 – English Synchronized Recording By using Synchronized Recording methods, you can start and stop both disc play and tape recording at the same time.
– 24 – English T rac ks to be recorded on the re verse side (SIDE-B) appear . SET / DISPLA Y REVERSE MODE CD REC ST ART 7 Auto Edit Recording (only for audio CDs) Using Auto Edit Recording, you can record the tracks on a CD onto both sides of the tape.
– 25 – English Using the Microphones Y ou can enjoy singing along (Karaoke) and micr ophone mixing by using two microphones. • MIC LEVEL adjustment is v alid for both microphones connected to MIC 1 and MIC 2 jacks. IMPOR T ANT : • Always set MIC LEVEL to MIN when connecting or disconnecting the microphone.
– 26 – English Using the T imers There are three timers av ailable—D AIL Y (Daily T imer), REC (Recording T imer), and SLEEP (Sleep Timer). Y ou can set the timers whether the unit is on or of f; howe ver , if Ecology Mode is activ ated, you cannot set the timers while the unit is of f.
– 27 – English 4 Set the off-time y ou want the unit to turn off (on standby) at. 1) Tu r n 4 / ¢ to set the hour , then press SET/DISPLA Y . “SET” appears for 1 second. 2) Tu r n 4 / ¢ to set the minute, then press SET/DISPLA Y . “SET” appears for 1 second, then the unit enters source selecting mode.

– 30 – English Maintenance T o get the best performance of the unit, keep your discs, tapes, and mec hanism clean. Handling cassette tapes • If the tape is loose in its cassette, take up the slack by inserting a pencil in one of the reels and rotating.
