4 EN (MONO) Basic Connections CHECK CONTENTS 1 Make sure the package contains all of the accessories listed in "SPECIFICA TIONS" ( Z pg. 65). SITUA TE RECORDER 2 Place the recorder on a stable, horizontal surface. CONNECT RECORDER TO TV 3 The connection method you use depends on the type of TV you have.
EN 5 (MONO) CONNECT RECORDER TO TV 1 a– Connect the aerial, recorder and TV as per "RF CONNECTION" ( Z pg. 4). b– Connect the recorder's S VIDEO OUT connector to the TV's S-VIDEO IN connector . c– Connect the recorder's AUDIO OUT connectors to the TV's AUDIO IN connectors.
6 EN V ideo Channel Set INITIAL SETTINGS If you have connected the video recorder to your TV via the provided RF cable only (RF connection) – Go to "With RF Connection" below .
EN 7 (Ex.) If channel 50 is available in your area SET VIDEO CHANNEL 3 Set your TV to UHF channel 36. ● If the two vertical white bars appear clearly on the screen as shown in the illustration ( Z "TEST SIGNAL" on page 6), press OK and then go to step 4 .

EN 13 PLA YBACK Basic Playback The easiest, most basic operation possible with your video recorder is tape playback. Already-recorded signals on a video tape are read by your video recorder and displayed on your TV just like a TV programme.
14 EN PLA YBACK (cont.) Playback Features JOG PLAY PAUSE PLAY REW FF PAUSE PUSH JOG NOTE: For short searches, press and hold FF or REW for over 2 seconds during playback or still picture. When released, normal playback resumes. High-Speed Search ACTIV A TE HIGH-SPEED SEARCH 1 During playback, turn the JOG dial quickly to the left or right.
EN 15 Slow Motion ACTIV A TE SLOW-MOTION PLA YBACK 1 During playback, turn the JOG dial to the left for forward slow motion. T o play in reverse slow motion, continue to turn the JOG dial to the left after selecting all the forward direction slow motion modes.
16 EN Manual T racking Y our video recorder is equipped with automatic tracking control. During playback, you can override this and adjust the tracking manually by pressing the PR +/– buttons. OVERRIDE AUTOMA TIC TRACKING 1 Press (SP/LP/EP) on the remote control to engage manual tracking.
EN 17 Repeat Playback Y our video recorder can automatically play back the whole tape 100 times repeatedly . ST ART PLA YBACK 1 Press PLA Y . ACTIV A TE REPEA T PLA YBACK 2 Press PLA Y and hold for over 5 seconds, then release. ● The Play indicator ( ) on the display panel blinks slowly .
18 EN Next Function Memory The Next Function Memory "tells" the recorder what to do after rewinding. Before continuing, ensure that the recorder is in the Stop mode. a– For Automatic Start Of Playback After T ape Rewind... ...press REW , then press PLA Y within 2 seconds.
EN 19 TV signals being received by the recorder's built-in tuner can be recorded onto a video tape. Y ou can "capture" a TV programme using your video recorder . S-VHS recording is possible only for P AL recordings made in the SP , LP or EP mode, or NTSC recordings made in the SP mode.
20 EN RECORDING (cont.) Recording Features Record One Pr ogramme While W atching Another SELECT CHANNEL TO W A TCH 1 Once recording is in progress, all you need to do is to set the channel controls on the TV for the station you wish to view .
EN 21 Receiving Stereo And Bilingual Pr ogrammes Y our recorder is equipped with a Sound-Multiplex decoder (A2) and a Digital stereo sound decoder (NICAM) as well, making reception of stereo and bilingual broadcasts possible. When the channel is changed, the type of broadcast being received will be displayed on the TV screen for a few seconds.
22 EN RECORDING (cont.) A TTENTION ● S-VHS recording is possible only for P AL recordings made in the SP , LP or EP mode, or NTSC recordings made in the SP mode. ● S-VHS ET recording is possible only for P AL recordings made in the SP mode, or NTSC recordings made in the SP mode.
EN 23 Super VHS ET Y our recorder is equipped with Super VHS ET that makes it possible to record with S-VHS picture quality on VHS cassettes. NOTES: ● The "S-VHS" indicator lights on the front display panel when "S-VHS ET" is set to "ON" .
24 EN B.E.S.T . Picture System T urn on the TV and select the VIDEO channel (or A V mode). The B.E.S.T . (Biconditional Equalised Signal T racking) system checks the condition of the tape in use during recording and playback, and compensates to provide the highest-possible recording and playback pictures.
EN 25 Recording ST ART RECORDING 1 Press and hold RECORD and press PLA Y on the remote, or press RECORD on the recorder . DURING B.E.S.T . B.E.S.T . COMPLETE ● The recorder spends approximately 7 seconds assessing the condition of the tape, then begins recording.

30 EN Express Timer Pr ogramming Remember , the clock must be set before you can programme the timer ( Z pg. 12). Before performing the following steps: ● Insert a cassette with the safety tab in place. The recorder will come on automatically . ● T urn on the TV and select the VIDEO channel (or A V mode).
EN 31 SET T APE SPEED 7 Press SP/LP/EP ( ) to set the tape speed. ACCESS TITLE EDIT SCREEN 8 Press the NUMBER key “1”. The T itle Edit screen appears. ● Y ou can access the T itle Edit screen only when “PROG. NA VIGA TION” is set to “ON”.

EN 35 When programmes overlap each other If “PROGRAM OVERLAPPED” appears, you have another programme overlapping the programme you have just made. The Programme Check screen appears and conflicting programmes will start blinking. Example: Programme 1 (you have just made) and Programme 4 overlap each other .
36 EN Auto Timer When the Auto T imer is set to ON the timer is automatically engaged when the recorder power is turned off and automati- cally disengaged when the recorder is powered back on.
EN 37 Automatic Sat- ellite Pr ogram Recording SP/LP/EP This facility allows you to automatically record a satellite program which is timer -programmed on your external satellite receiver .
38 EN Navigation Navigation Playback This function is useful when you wish to quickly find out what programmes you have recorded on a tape with this recorder . This function allows you to select a programme to watch, and then automatically searches for the start of the programme.
EN 39 T urn Off Navigation If you don't want to record information on the programmes, set "PROG. NA VIGA TION" to "OFF". ACCESS MAIN MENU SCREEN 1 Press MENU . ACCESS FUNCTION S E T SCREEN 2 Press PUSH JOG %fi to place the pointer next to "FUNCTION SET", then press OK or PUSH JOG # .
40 EN NUMBER OK MENU Edit Programme Title Y ou can edit the the programme titles as you like. Perform steps 1 to 3 of “Navigation Playback” on page 38 before continuing. SELECT PROGRAMME 1 Press PUSH JOG %fi to place the pointer next to the programme you want to edit.

42 EN Remote A/B Code Switching The remote control is capable of controlling two JVC video recorders independently; one set to respond to the remote control's A code control signals and another set to respond to B code control signals.

EN 59 CORRECTIVE ACTION Insert a cassette, or using adhesive tape, reseal the slot where the tab was removed. Set to the desired channel. Confirm that the source is properly connected. Confirm that all units' power switches are turned on. Set the input mode to "L-1", "F-1", "S- 1" or "S-2".
