11 1 Preparing and using for the first time Precondition: The bean container has been filled. T Inser t the mains plug into a pow er socket. 3 T Switch on the IMPRES SA using the power switc h on the left- hand side of the machine .
12 1 Preparing and using for the first time T Place a receptacle (at least 500 ml) under the cappuccino frother . T Press the ‘Next’ button. ‘Filter is being rinsed.’ , w ater flows out of the cappuccino frother . E Y ou can interrupt rinsing of the filter at any time b y pressing any button.
13 1 Preparing and using for the first time E If you do not know the hardness of y our water , you must find this out first (see Chapter 1 ‘Preparing and using for the first time – Determining the wa ter hardness ’). g T T urn the Rotar y Switc h to change the w ater hardness set- ting, e.
14 1 Preparing and using for the first time Y ou can adjust the grinder on a continuous scale to suit the degree of roast of your coff ee. If you adjust the consist enc y of grind when the grinder is not oper - ating, the grinder adjustment switch could be damaged.
15 1 Preparing and using for the first time Daily maintenance of the mac hine and hygiene when handling milk, coffee and w ater are key to a perfect coffee result in the cup ev er y time. Y ou should therefore change the w ater daily . Milk, sparkling mineral w ater or other liquids can damage the water tank or the machine.
16 2 Preparation 2 Prepar ation E While a product is being prepared, you can stop preparation at any time . Just press any button. E During preparation, you can c hange the preset amount s by turning the Rotary Switch g . E Y ou can follow the current status of prepar ation on the display .

18 2 Preparation Briefly press the Rotary Switch once t o enter ‘ coffee à la carte’ mode . In this mode you can select the coffee strength and amounts before preparation. E The settings made in ‘coff ee à la carte’ mode are one-off set- tings and are not stored.

20 2 Preparation Coffee preparation start s. The preset amount of water f or espresso flows into the glass. Preparation stop s automatically. ‘Please select produc t:’ appears on the display .
21 2 Preparation E If you did not fill the machine with a sufficient amount of ground coffee , ‘Not enough ground coffee .’ is displa yed and the IMPRESSA stops the oper ation. E The desired speciality coffee mu st be prepared within approx - imately one minute after filling with the ground coffee .
22 2 Preparation T Place a cup under the coffee spout. T Press and hold the ‘Coffee’ button. ‘Coffee’ and the fill volume are displa yed. T Hold the ‘Coffee’ button down until ‘Enough c offee? Press button. ’ appears. T Release the ‘Coffee’ button.
23 2 Preparation The following temper atures can be selected for preparing hot water: ‘Normal’ , ‘High’ , ‘Lo w’ . There is a danger of scalding from hot wat er splashes. T Av oid direc t contact with the skin. Example : Proceed as follo ws to prepare hot w ater .
24 3 Daily operation 3 Daily oper ation Daily maintenance of the mac hine and hygiene when handling milk, coffee and w ater are key to a perfect coffee result in the cup ev er y time. Y ou should therefore change the w ater daily . When the IMPRESSA is swit ched on, it automatically prompt s you to perform the switch-on rinse.
25 3 Daily operation T Wipe the surface of the machine with a clean, soft, damp cloth (e .g. microfibre cloth). E In the interests of hygiene , we recommend changing the milk pipe on a regular basis (approx. e ver y 6 months). Replacement pipes are av ailable from specialised dealers.
26 4 Permanent settings in programming mode 4 Permanent settings in progr amming mode Press the P button to enter progr amming mode. Y ou can navigate through the programme it ems and permanently save the required settings simply by turning the R ot ary Switch and using the multi- function buttons.

38 5 Maintenance After each milk preparation, the IMPRES SA prompt s you to rinse the milk system. Precondition: ‘Rinse the milk system. ’ is displayed and the R ot ary Switc h light s up. T Place a receptacle under the cappuccino frother .
39 5 Maintenance T Place another receptacle under the cappuccino frother . T Press the ‘Next’ button. ‘Milk system is being cleaned. ’ , the cappuccino frother and the milk pipe are cleaned.
40 5 Maintenance Y our IMPRESS A no longer has to be descaled if you are using the CLARIS Blue filter cartridge. If you did not activa te the filter cartridge the first time you used the machine , you can do this now as follo ws. E Perform the ‘inser ting the filter’ operation without an y inter - ruptions.
41 5 Maintenance E Y ou can interrupt rinsing of the filter at any time b y pressing any button. Press the R ot ary Switch k to continue rinsing of the filter . E The water ma y be slightly discoloured. This is not harmful to health and does not affect the taste.
42 5 Maintenance T Inser t the new filter cartridge into the water tank, exerting slight pressure. T Close the filter holder . It will click into place audibly . E After t wo months, the filter will cease t o work. Set the date on the date plate on the filter holder in the w ater tank.

44 5 Maintenance The IMPRESSA builds up depo sit s of limescale over time and auto- matically prompts you to descale it when necessary. The degree of calcification depends on the hardness of your w ater . If the descaling agent comes into contact with the skin or eyes, this can cause irritation.
45 5 Maintenance T Completely dissolve the c ontents of one blister (3JURA des- caling tablet s) in a receptacle holding 600ml of water . This may take se veral minutes. T Pour the solution into the empty water tank and inser t it into the machine .
46 5 Maintenance Coffee beans may be c overed with a slight oil film whic h remains on the walls of the bean c ontainer . These traces ma y negatively affect the coffee result. F or this reason clean the bean container from time to time . Precondition: ‘Fill bean container .
