10 1 Preparing and using for the first time T Fill the bean container with coffee beans, then close the aroma preservation cover and the bean c ontainer cover . If the machine is oper ated with a defective mains cable , there is a danger of potentially fatal electric shock.
11 1 Preparing and using for the first time Y our IMPRESSA no longer has to be descaled if y ou are using the CLARIS Blue filter cartridge. E Perform the ‘inserting the filter’ operation without any int er - ruptions. This will ensure that your IMPRES SA alw ays produces its best.
12 1 Preparing and using for the first time E The w ater may be slightly disc oloured. This is not harmful to health and does not affect the taste. Rinsing of the filter stops automatically after approximat ely 500 ml. The machine heats up. COFFEE READY appears on the display .

17 2 Preparation Y ou can choose to use a second co ffee variety , for ex ample decaf- feinated coff ee, with the filt er funnel for ground coffee . E Nev er add more than two lev el measuring spoons of ground coffee . E Use ground coff ee which is not ground too finely .
18 2 Preparation It is easy to make permanent settings f or the amount of wat er for all speciality coffees and hot wat er according to the cup siz e . Adjust the amount once as shown in the f ollowing example . Every time you prepare a drink in the future, this amount of w ater will be dispensed.
19 2 Preparation T o obtain a per fect water flow , use the hot-w ater nozzle. Y o u can find the hot -w ater nozzle under the c ov er of the stor age compartment. The following temper atures can be selec ted for preparing hot wa ter: LOW , NORMAL , X HIGH .
