11 Uncrating a nd Cleanup 1. F inish rem oving t he w ooden c rate f r o m around the l at he. 2. Unbolt the l athe f rom t he shippi ng crat e bo ttom. 3. Choose a locat ion f or the l athe t hat is dry, has good l ight ing, and has enough room t o all ow s ervi ci ng the l at he on all f our s i des.
12 3. Inspect the cam l ock studs. Mak e sure t hey hav e not beco m e c racked or broken dur ing transi t. C l ean al l parts thor oughly w i th solv ent. Also cl ean the spi ndle and camlocks . 4. Cov er all chuck j aws and scrol l i nside t he chuck wit h #2 lit hium t ube gr ease.
13 Drai n oil c o m pl etely and re fi ll a f t er the fi rst three m onths of operation. Then, c hange oil in t he apron annual ly. P u ll knob ( C, Fi gure 5) on the one- s hot lube system and hold f or sev era l seconds to al low oil to fill the pump.
14 The m ain motor is rat ed at 7-1/ 2 HP (or 10HP f or model 2280Z X), 230/ 460V and c om es f rom the f ac tory prewired at 230V. Confi rm that power av a i l able at the lat he’s loc ation is the sam e rati ng as the lat he.
15 Car riage The car ri age (C, Fi gure 10) i s m ade f rom hi gh quali ty cast ir on. The cross-sl ide ( E, F igur e 10) is mount ed on the carri age and mo v es on a dov etail ed slide which c an be adjusted f or play by m eans of t he gibs.
16 To set t he steady rest: 1. Loosen thr ee hex socket cap s c r ews. 2. Loosen k nurled scr ew and open sli ding fi ngers until the steady rest can be m oved with i ts finger s around the w or kpi ece.
17 5. Comp ound Slide (L, Fi gure 13) i s l ocated on top of the c ross s l ide and c an be rotat ed 360°. There ar e calibr ations in degr ees (M, Fi gure 13) bel ow the rest t o a s si st in plac e m ent of t he com pound sli de to t he desired angl e.

T ool P ost Cl amping L ever (K, Figur e 13): Located on t op of the t ool pos t. Rotat e counter cl ockwise to l oosen and cl ockwise to ti ghten.
19 Operation Feed and Thr ead Selec tion 1. Ref erence t he feed and t hread chart on the front of the headstock ( A, Fi gure 16). 2. Mov e lev ers and knob s (B/ C/D/ E , Fi gur e 16) to t he appropri ate posi tion accor ding t o the f eed and thread chart .
20 Remov ing Gap Section 1. To r em ove t he gap secti on, rem ov e f our hex socket c ap scre ws , and two hex c ap bol ts. 2. Ti ghten the hex nut s on the t apered ali gnment pins to l oos en the pi ns. Onc e loosened, t hey can be rem ov ed. 3. Gap sect i on can now be removed.
