4 5 Conventions This manual uses the following conventions: Monospaced Indicates text that you should key in. [ ] Indicates keys you should press. For example, [Enter] means to pr ess the Enter key . If keys need to be chorded, they appear together in the same bracket with a plus sign between them: [Ctrl+Alt].

13 12 Hardwar e Setup Make sure that power to all the devices you will be installing has been turned off. Y ou must unplug the power cords of any computers that have the Keyboard Power On function. Cable Connection T o install your GCS1204, refer to the diagram on the following page.

15 14 Manual Switching There ar e two convenient methods to access the computers: Manual – pressing the port selection pushbuttons located on the unit’ s front panel. Hotkey – entering key combinations from the keyboar d. Hotkey port selection is discussed in the next chapter .
15 14 Hotkey switching All port switching begins by tapping the Scroll Lock key twice. The tables below describe the actions that each combination performs.

17 Each CPU port on the GCS1204 is assigned a port number (1, 2, 3, or 4). The port numbers are marked on the rear panel of the switch and each switch LED has a corr esponding number for easy identication The Port ID of a computer is derived from the CPU port number to which it is connected.

18 19 Auto Scanning The GCS1204’ s Auto Scan featur e automatically cycles KVM focus through the computer ports at regular intervals. This allows you to monitor computer activity without having to switch fr om port to port manually . Note: 1. N stands for the number of seconds the GCS1204 will dwell on a port before moving on to the next.

32 33 The Firmware Upgrade Utility The Windows-based Firmware Upgrade Utility (FWUpgrade.exe) provides a smooth, automated process for upgrading the KVM switch’ s rmwar e. The Utility comes as part of a Firmware Upgrade Package that is specic for each device.
32 33 4. Shut down the computers on your GCS1204 installation. 5. Invoke Firmware Upgrade Mode. The fr ont panel LEDs ash together to indicate Firmware Upgrade Mode is in effect.
34 35 4. As you select a device in the list, its description appears in the Device Description panel. 5. After you have made your device selection(s), Click Next to perform the upgrade. If you enabled Check Firmware V ersion, the Utility compares the device’ s rmwar e level with that of the upgrade les.
34 35 Upgrade Failed If the Upgrade Succeeded screen does not appear , it means that the upgrade failed to complete successfully , in which case you should do the following: 1. Power off the GCS1204 and r emove its housing. 2. Using a jumper cap, short the jumper on the mainboard labeled J17.
36 37 T roubleshooting Symptom Possible Cause Action Mouse / Keyboard not responding. Improper mouse and/or keyboard r eset. Unplug the cable(s) from the console port(s), then plug it/them back in. KVM switch needs to be reset. Power off all devices on the installation.
