These operating instructions pro vide the information you need for safe, efficient use of the Q90D . Read this document thoroughl y before using y our TTY and k eep it nearby for easy ref erence.
About Y our New Q90D 3 The Q90D is designed to let people who are Deaf, Hard-of-Hearing or Speech Impair ed communicate via cell phone or an ywhere there is a land line: - By allowing tw o TTY users t.
The Q90D offers an amazing number of f eatures for y our use . It utilizes “ shor tcut ” k eys to ensure ther e is no need to memorize a wide variety of ke ystrok es and Menu selections to use your Q90D . The shor tcut k eys are illustrated on the pr oduct itself, as well as the image below .
The following contr ols and indicators are located on the top , right, back or bottom sides of your Q90D . T op Side: 1 Special Function K eys. The 1, Q, A, and Z k eys are used f or special functions.
P Spacebar K ey . In addition to using this k ey for space betw een words, it is used to turn featur es ON and OFF when setting up your Q90D . Q Shift K ey . The Shift ke y , when used with certain Function keys, causes the Q90D to perform the Secondary Functions listed on Page 15.
Setting Up Y our Q90D There ar e four (4) steps inv olved in setting up your Q90D so it is r eady to use . 1. Installing the batteries 2. Pow er and phone line connection 3. T elephone connection 4. LOCK switch Installing the Batteries T o install new batteries: 1.
An optional car cigarette lighter ada pter , a vailable from Ameriphone , can pro vide power to operate the Q90D with a cell phone while automatically charging the Q90D batteries (as shown below). A standard or amplified telephone can be connected to the Q90D for household members who do not use a TTY .
Placing TTY Calls Once the Q90D is in the LOCK OFF position, there ar e three (3) wa ys you can mak e a TTY call. 1. Dialing manually from the Q90D k eyboar d 2. Dialing automatically from the Q90D phone directory 3. Dialing from a digital cellular or cordless telephone Dialing Manually fr om the Q90D K eyboard 1.
7. If the other par ty answ ers by TTY , the SIGNAL light brightens and a greeting message is displa yed on the scr een. If the other party answers by v oice , the SIGNAL light flick ers. If Auto ID is ON, the Q90D sends Baudot tones to tell the person you ar e calling that this is a TTY call.
1. Press Po wer to turn ON the Q90D . 2. Use the Q90D to DIAL your Rela y Ser vice phone number . 3. After your call is answe red, press F4 and the Q90D automatically sends the text requesting VCO Rela y Ser vice, VCO C ALL PLS GA. 4. When the Relay Service responds and sends the GA message, the green Microphone indicator lights up .
2. T urn on your cell phone or cordless phone. 3. Press Po wer to turn on your Q90D . 4. T ype your r esponse . 5. When you are finished with the conv ersation, turn OFF the cellular or cordless telephone. 6. T urn OFF the Q90D by holding down CTRL and pressing P ow er or CTRL and F1 to hang up .
2. Connect one end of the Printer cable to the Printer port on the bottom of the Q90D . 3. Connect the other end of the printer cable to the Printer . 4. T o use the Printer , plug in the adapter , turn the switch ON (left side of Printer) and press the Printer button to ON LINE (top side of Printer).
Primar y Functions Y ou may easily activate the Q90D ’ s Primar y Functions by simpl y selecting and pressing any one of its function buttons, ranging from F1 - F13. The following chart describes how the Q90D will respond when a particular function button is activated.
Secondar y Functions Secondar y Functions activate additional f eatures on your Q90D b y pressing various combinations of two or thr ee ke ys at the same time . Note: In all ke y combinations, first you hold down the CTRL k ey (or CTRL and Shift k eys), then press another k ey .
Hold Hold Press Function do wn down Ctrl F8 Passw ord sav es a 10-digit Passwor d which is necessar y only if you want to use the Remote Message Retrie val function. Ctrl F9 T urns Interrupt ON and OFF . When using the Q90, only one person can type at a time.
Hold Hold Press Function do wn down Shift CTRL F13 Erases the conv ersation memor y . It operates OFF LINE only . Shift Ctrl ESC System reset r eboots the Q90D .
Pr ogramming Y our Q90D Y our Q90D comes r eady to use . Howe ver , we suggest y ou set up three basic featur es: 1. Phone Director y for memory dialing 2.
P ersonalized MSG1 and MSG2 This function allows y ou to store two separate messages you ma y want to use as a greeting when making or r eceiving calls. If you use the prer ecorded message during normal conv ersation, allow it to finish before y ou begin typing.
Note: The Message Count is sav ed in Memor y when the Q90D is turned OFF and recalled when the Q90D is turned ON. Scr olling and Reading the Sav ed Messag es 1. T urn ON the Q90D . If you ha v e any sa ved messages, it will displa y the number of the messages in brack ets, e .
Flasher F actor y setting is [ON] The Flasher consists of two lights that flash when the telephone rings. The brightest light (white light which is located on the left), does not operate when the Q90D is pow ered by batteries. 1. Press the Spacebar to turn the Ring Flasher to the ON or OFF position.
1. Press Spacebar to turn Mix ed Case ON or OFF . 2. Press ESC to finish, or press Return to continue to Auto ID . Auto ID F actor y setting is [OFF] When this is ON, the Q90D automatically sends Baudot tones ev er y five seconds if y our call is answ ered with a voice telephone.
For y our convenience, we ha ve listed some common pr oblems that ma y occur with your Q90D , follow ed by a list of items that should be check ed. If the difficulty persists, contact our Customer Ser vice Department at 800-772-2889 TTY or 800-874-3005 voice.
Although your Q90D is built to last and is designed to be maintenance free, it contains sensitive and delicate electr onic parts. T o pr otect your inv estment and ensure the best performance, treat it with care. 1. Avoid dr opping your Q90D or subjecting it to any impact.
Here ar e some commonly used abbre viations that reduce the need to type long phrases. 1. GA means GO AHEAD . When you finish typing your sentence or message, press the GA k ey or type GA to show it is the other party ’ s turn to respond.
