5. NetW are Network.
5.1 System Architecture We implemented NetWar e printer sharing functionality into the p rint server its elf, thus allowing one o r more printers attached by a print se rver to be connected to th e network. We have developed the print s erver to support NetWare p rint server.
Printing perf ormance is enhanced . Relieve NetWare file s erver’s burden. Relieve the need of a worksta tion running the remote printer utility. Improve produc tivity by locating the prin ter near the workgroup. Each print server should l og into a NetWare server before servicing t he print jobs .
5.2 NetWare 3.x/4.x/5.x Inst allation & Setup Once your print server is co nnected to your Ethernet network, you can set it up fo r use with your networking software. 5.2.1 Installation Using PCONSOLE 5.2.1.1 Configuring as Print Server Mode 1.
6. You have now successf ully created th e print queue that your prin t server will serve. Press the Escape key until the Available Options main menu is displayed. 7. Select Print Server Information. 8. Press the Insert key to add a new NetWare print server object.
13. Press Escape, and answer Yes to the Save Changes question. 14. Select Queues Serviced by Printer, then select Printer 0 (or Printer 1 , Pr inter 2) and press Enter. 15. Press Insert and add your newly created pri nt queue to th e lis t of qu eues s erviced by the prin ter.
16. Repeatedly press Esca pe to exit the PCONSOLE program. 17. Reset the print server to have the change s take effect. NOTE: If the print server you have is with multiple printer connectors , you may cr eat e multip le print queues and printer objects.
6. UNIX System Network.
6.1 Introduction The print ser ver is avail abl e for TCP/IP printing by Unix LPD (Line Printer Da e mon) protocol. The LPD protocol originated with Unix release is based on the BSD version of Unix and supported under most ve rsions of Unix.
6.2 Enable Print Server’s TCP /IP Support The default conf iguration of the print server is with TCP/IP support enabled. An yway, you can configure the print ser ver to enable TCP/IP support using th e configuration program .
6.3 Setup Print Server’s IP Address The print server must have a unique IP address in order to be recognized by the networ k. You can set up the IP addr ess on the various Unix systems using any one of the following m ethod s: 1. ARP & Ping Assignme nt (Recommend for Unix) 2.
(the Node ID is printed on the rear side of the print server) Assign IP address: 203.66. 191.12 arp –s 203.66.191.12 00-00-B4-01-01-01 ping 203.66.191.12 At the mean time, print server’s IP will “temporarily” be set to 203 .66.1 91.1 2 (w ill restore after reboot).
To rebuild th e NIS map, pl ease refer to your system documentation. To conf igure t he IP address data for the BOOTP server, you will need to log in the ho st o f BOOTP server as the superuser (root). Perform the fo llowing steps to add address entries, 1.
Node ID: 0000B4010101 (this im plies Ethernet address is 0000B40 10101), IP address: 203.66.191. 12 The entry for this print server in the /etc/bootptab file should be: PS010101: :ht=1: :ha=0000B4010101: :ip=203.
Where the Ethernet addr ess of the print server is the Node ID located on the print server. 4. If your system uses Network Inform ation Services (NIS), you will need to ma ke cha nges to the N IS host and ethers databases. 5. Check if the RARP daem on is running using the ps and grep commands.
6.4 Verify Print Server’s IP Address To verify that your print se rver is respond ing to th e newly assigned IP addres s using a PING command: ping i p-a ddre ss.
6.5 Configure Remo te lpd Printing on the Host The procedure you use to co nfigure your Uni x host(s) to allow printing to your networ k remote prin t server varies between different var ieties of Unix. The procedure below can be us ed for Unix variants that are related to B SD Unix, such as SunOS or Linux.
mkdir /var/spool/lpd/pse rverd chown daemon /var/spool/lpd/pserverd chgrp daemon /var/spool/lpd/pserverd chmod 775 /var/spool/lpd/pser verd 3. Add an entry to the host’ s /etc/printcap file, similar to the f ollowing: printer-name: :lp= : :rm=203.
The print server should now be availabl e for printing from your Unix host..
6.6 Print a Test Page To pri nt to the prin t serve r, you can u se the lp r co mman d: lpr -Pprinter-name file ... or, you can use the lp comm and on SCO Open Server: lp –d printer-name file ... Where prin ter-nam e is on e of the names for the printer in the /etc/printcap file, whic h you cre ated in the pr evious step.
