1 Abo ut th e McPC 1 00Mbp s The McPC 10 0Mbps is an IEE E 802. 3 single-c onversion PC me dia c onverter ca rd designed to convert twisted pair (100Base-T X) connections to a variety of other fiber connecti ons: 10 0 Base-SX 850 or 1300nm multi-mo de or 100 Base-FX 1310n m or 1550nm single -mode.

3 Enabling Auto Negotiation Configu re Aut o Nego ti ation on the McPC 100 Mbps by a djusting a t wo-position switch, la beled AN , on the face plate next to the fibe r connectors. Enable this feature by moving th e switch to th e up ON position. Disable (default) by moving the s witch to the dow n OFF posi tion.
4 The McPC 100Mbps also sends out link pulses from its co pper and fiber transmitters, but normally has no way of knowi ng whether the cable to th e other de vice is intact and the link pulses are rea ching the other en d.
5 Enabling TX and FX LinkLo ss In order to ena ble the LinkLoss features, rem ove the cover from the un it and place the jumpers accordingly. Follow the inst ructi ons below, refere ncing the diagra m. 1. Make sure tha t there is no power goin g to the unit b y UNPLUGGING THE POWER CORD.
6 Installat ion Tro ubles hoot ing During installation, first test the fiber and twiste d pair connect ions with FiberAlert disabled. Then enable Fiber Alert, if de sired, just before final ins tallati on. This will redu ce the feat ure’s interferenc e with t estin g.
7 Fiber Op tic Cleaning Guidelines Fiber Optic tran smitters an d receivers are e xtremely susce ptible to c ontamination by particles of d irt or dust, which can obst ruct the optic path and cause performance degradation. Good system performan ce requires clean optics and c onnector ferrules.
