Unmanaged Modules Before installing the i McV-T1/E1/J1 modul e into an unmanaged chassis, configure the module hard ware-sel ectable featur es via DIP switches loca ted at positi on S3 and S2 on the PCB (refer to t he DIP Switch Table section for more infor mation).
Receive LIU Termination (Line Termination) This opt ion allows you to se t the rece ive term ination. T his is used to properly terminate c ables in order t o prevent signal r eflections w hich can cause sign al degradation.
Remote Ma nage ment This option allo ws you to enable R emote management on the modul e. The re mote manageme nt fea ture i s desig ned to work only on th e remote modu le of the Local/Remote pair . With Remote management enabled, you can e asily perform the following: • Test t he line integ rity of the remote copper port.
Module LED Functions This sec tion desc ribes th e LEDs and their f u nctions. The Fiber port LED RM is the only LED t hat should b e lit on th e modules under normal operating c onditions. Copper Port LEDs LPBK Glows gr een when the mo dule is set t o one of the Loopback mode s.
Testing To test a media converter by itself, first make sure y ou have an appropriate fi ber patch cable, then perform the following ste ps: 1. Connect t he media c onverter t o the T1/E1 device wit h a standar d UTP cable. I f the NO LNK LED for the copper port remains on, you are n ot receiving a valid signal.
The iMcV-T1/E 1/J1 can be configured to use the foll owing loopback test modes: • Local Fiber Loopbac k Mode This set ting te sts the path from the CO coppe r port to the Local iMcV -T1/E1/ J1 module fiber port an d back.
Remote Fiber Loopback Mode To se t the loopback testing m ode to Remote Fiber Loo pback Mode , perfo rm the following: 1. Set the Local iMcV-T1/E1/J 1 module Loopback to None (DIP switch S3-3=On and S3-4=On) 2. Set the Remote iMcV -T1/ E1/J1 mod ule to Local Loopback (DIP switch S3-3= Off and S3-4= On).
Testing with Pseudorandom Bit Sequence (PRBS) To test the copper segment from the Remote module to the Customer Prem ises Equipment (CPE) by us ing PRBS, perfor m the following: 1. Set the CPE to l oopback the signal. 2. Set the Remote module to genera te PRBSs (DIP switch S2-9=On an d S2-10=Off).
