Abo ut the i McV- Gigabi t Th e SNMP manag eable iMcV- Giga bit modu le provides a single conversion between 1000 Base-T tw isted pair and 1000 Base -SX/LX fiber. Each iMcV-Gigabit includes one R J-45 co nnector a nd one pair of SC fiber optic connector s.
Unmanaged Modules Before installing, configure the iM cV-Gig abit Modu le for d esired f eatu res. Th e table below indicates the a vailable features an d set tings fo r the module. Aft er configuri ng the switch for the desired settings, install the mo dule and connect the appropriate cables.
LinkLoss, FiberAler t and Link Fault Pass-Through iMcV-Gigabit mo dules include the trou bleshooting features FiberAlert, TXLL, FXLL and LFPT that help locate silent failure s on a network. Before attem pting to install the module(s), understan d how these fe atures work and react t o a specific ne twork configuration.
Fibe rAle rt ( FA) FiberAlert minimizes the pro blems as sociated with the loss of one stran d of fiber. If a strand is una vailable, the IMC Netw orks dev ice at the receiver end notes the l oss of link. The devi ce will then stop transmit ting dat a and the link signal until a sign al or link pu lse is received.
Link F ault Pa ss-Thro ugh ( LFPT ) Link Fault Pass-Through (LFPT) is a troubleshooting feature that combines TX and FX LinkLoss from bot h the local and re mote iMcV-Giga bit modules. LFPT is ena bled by turning on b oth FX and T X LinkLoss on bot h modules.
Additional G igabit Features Preferred/Forced Mo de The iMcV-Gigabit module also includes a Preferred/Force d Modes for Master/S lave nego tiatio n. Preferre d Mode hel ps dete rmine wheth er the mod ule should act as a Mast er or Slav e.
AutoCross Feature for Twisted Pair Conn ection All twisted pair ports on the iMcV-Gigab it includes AutoCross, a feature that automatically sele cts between a cross ove r work station and a straight-t hrough connection depending on the connected device.
Installat ion T roub lesho oting • During installation, first test the fiber and twiste d pair connections wi th all troubleshooting features disabled, then enable these fea tures, if desired, just before final in stallation. This will reduce t he features’ interferen ce with testing.
