INSTR UCTION MANU AL iPW1 HF/50 MHz ALL BAND 1 kW LINEAR AMPLIFIER.
R W ARNING HIGH V OL T A GE! NEVER attach an antenna or internal antenna connector during trans- mission. This ma y result in an electrical shock or b ur n. R W ARNING! NEVER carr y the linear amplifier by yourself . At least two persons must carry the linear amplifier since it weights appro x.

4 1 P ANEL DESCRIPTION D A CC-1 SOCKET D A CC-2 SOCKET (w/[EXCITER] is “ 1 ” ) The f ollowing descriptions are applied when the [EXCITER] s witch is set to “ 1 ” (default). When [EX- CITER] is set to “ 1&2, ” [ACC-2] functions the same as [A CC-1] abov e for the 2nd e xciter .
5 2 INST ALLA TION AND CONNECTIONS (1) Single-phase 3-wire line (200 – 240 V A C) q The green wire from the A C power cab le must be connected to the protective earth. w The blac k and white wires from the A C power cable can be connected to either terminal.
■ Gr ounding T o pre v ent electr ical shock, tele vision interference (TVI), broadcast interference (BCI) and other prob- lems, g round the linear ampli fi er through the GROUND terminal on the rear panel. F or best results, connect a heavy gauge wire or str ap to a long ear th-sunk copper rod.
■ System inter connections 1 or 2 Icom 100 W HF transceiv ers can be connected as e xciters to the IC-PW1. Non-Icom transceivers can be used, how ev er , band selection will not be synchro- nized f or each exciter . See the f ollo wing diag r ams f or making connections be- tween the IC-PW1 and an e xciter (transceiv er).
8 2 INST ALLA TION AND CONNECTIONS • Using 2 Icom exciter s (transceivers) The f ollowing connections also apply to trans- ceiv ers having multiple antenna connectors f or speci fi ed bands (e.
9 2 INST ALLA TION AND CONNECTIONS • Using 1 Icom and 1 non-Icom exciter s (transceivers) NO TE: The speci fi cations f or the SEND relay are 5 V DC 0.
10 2 INST ALLA TION AND CONNECTIONS The control section of the linear ampli fi er can be sep- arated from the main body , doubling as a remote con- troller . It can be placed on the e xciter or in another conv enient place. q Disconnect the A C power cab le.
■ Setting the ALC levels Bef ore fi rst applying power , make sure all connections required f or your system are complete b y referring to chapter 2. Then, reset the linear amplifier using the f ollowing procedure. NO TE: Resetting CLEARS all programmed set- tings to def ault values .
12 3 OPERA TION The IC-PW1 uses CI-V frequency data f or automatic selection of the operating band. Program the e xciter ’ s address to use this capability as f ollows: F or non-Icom exciters , the IC-PW1 cannot be con- trolled using the CI-V function, so this setting is not necessar y .
13 3 OPERA TION CA UTION: DO NO T operate the IC-PW1 before adjusting the ALC le vels properly with the [ALC adj1] and [ALC adj2] pots. (p . 11) It takes 15 sec. f or CI-V line initial settings when se veral CI-V de vices (more than 5) are connected to a CI-V line.
3 OPERA TION 14 This linear ampli fi er has v ar ious protection circuits. D ALC circuit The ALC (A utomatic Lev el Control) circuit automati- cally limits RF output power b y controlling the input le vel of the e xciter . This prev ents transmission of dis- tor ted signals when the input signal lev el e xceeds the allow able le vel.
4 MAINTENANCE 15 PROBLEM POSSIBLE CAUSE SOLUTION REF. Power does not come on when the [POWER] switch is pushed. • Cable connection is faulty. • The circuit breaker is turned OFF. • Check the connection and connection cable pins. • Check for the cause, then turn the circuit breaker ON.
