1 P ow er On the Unit Follo w the instructions below to po wer on your Humminbir d® control head. 1. Press the POWER/LIGHT key. 2. When the T itle scr een is displayed, pr ess the MENU key to access the Start-U p Options Menu.
2 How Sonar W orks Sonar technology is based on sound wav es. The 300 Series™ F ishfinder uses sonar to locate and define structur e, bottom contour and composition, as well as depth directly below the tr ansducer .
3 When all the echo es are view ed side by side, an easy to interpret “gr aph“ of the bottom, fish, and structure appear s. The sou nd pu lse s are tra nsm itt ed at vari ous frequencies depending on the applica tion. V ery high frequencies (455 kHz) ar e used for grea test definition but the operating depth is limited.

5 How GPS W orks Y our 300 Series™ Fishfinder also supports GPS (Global P ositioning System) and chartplotting. It uses GPS and sonar to determine your position, displa y it on a grid, and provide detailed underw ater inf ormation. GPS uses a constellation of satel lites that continually send radio signals to the earth.
6 What’s on the Sonar Display What’s on the Sonar Displa y T he 300 Series™ Fi shfinder can displa y a variet y of useful infor mation about NO TE: Entries in this view that list (with T emp/Speed or GPS Receiver) ar e available if either the information from the GPS r eceiver will be displayed on the vie w.

9 S S w w i i t t c c h h F F i i r r e e ™ ™ SwitchFire ™ contr ols how the sonar returns are displayed in the Sonar Views. SwitchFire ™ settings are available in the Sonar Menu T ab. T o see the maximum sonar informa tion available within the transducer beam so more fish arches and better jig tracking are shown, choose Max Mode.
10 B B o o t t t t o o m m P P r r e e s s e e n n t t a a t t i i o o n n As the boat mov es, the unit charts the changes in depth on the display to cr eate a profile of the Bottom Contour . The type of bottom can be determined from the return charted on the display .
11 Inver se is a method where weak returns are shown with dark pixels and strong r eturns with lighter pixels. T his has the benefit of ensuring that weak signals will be clearly visible on the display . Structure ID® represents weak returns as light pixels and strong returns as dark pixels.
12 V iews The sonar and navigation information from your Fishfinder ar e displayed on the screen in a variety of easy -to-read views. There ar e many views available on y our Fishfinder . When you press the VIEW key , the display cycles through the available views on y our screen.
13 T o customize your view rotation: Y ou can choose which views are hidden or visible in your view rotation. 1. Press the MENU key twice to access the tabbed Main Menu, then press the RIGHT Cursor key until the Views tab is selected. 2. Press the UP or DOWN Cursor keys to select a View .
14 Sonar V iew Sonar Vie w presents a historical log of sonar returns. T he most recent sonar returns are charted on the right side of the display . As new information is received, the historical information scrolls left across the display .
15 Sonar Zoom Vie w Sonar Zoom Vie w provides a magnified view of the bottom and structure. The Sonar Zoom Vie w makes it easier to see separate sonar returns that would usually be displayed close together , such as those caused by fish suspended close to the bottom or within structure.
16 200/83 kHz Split Sonar Vie w Split Sonar V iew displays sonar r eturns from the 83 kHz wide beam on the left side of the scr een and sonar returns from the 200 kHz narr ow beam on the right side of the screen. Y ou can use the Split Sonar Vie w to make side by side comparisons between the sonar returns from both beams.
17 Big Digits Vie w Big Digits Vie w pro vides digital data in a large, easy-to-see forma t. • Digital Rea douts: Depth is alwa ys displa yed. Readouts for temperatur e, speed, and T riplog information are displa yed automatically if the appropria te accessory is connected to the Fishfinder .
18 Circular Flasher Vie w Circular Flasher Vie w displays Real Time Sonar (RTS™) data in the traditional flasher format. • Depth and temperature are always displayed.
19 Snapshot and Recording View The Snapshot and Recording Vie w displays the screen snapshots and recording s tha t are sav ed on the optional-purchase MMC/SD card installed in the control head. Use this view to review the snapshot and recording file details, start recording, and adjust the recording settings.
20 S S c c r r e e e e n n S S n n a a p p s s h h o o t t s s Screen Snapshots are saved pictures of the view on the screen. The screen snapshot will include the menus, dialog boxes, warnings, and messages that were active when the scr een snapshot was taken.

32 Introduction to Navigation Use your 300 Series™ Fishfinder to mark waypoints at areas of interest and to navigate to those wa ypoints via a sa vable route. A route r epresents the shortest intended distance betw een waypoints. Y ou can also view and save tracks, which represent the actual path of the boat.

35 T o make it easier to select a waypoint to edit, select Sort By and press the RIGHT or LEFT Cursor keys to select a sort order: • Name shows the waypoints alphabetically . • Time sho ws the most recently-cr eated waypoint first. • Distance shows the closest waypoint first.
36 Skipping a waypoint: Fr om the Navigation X -Press™ Menu, select Skip Next W aypoint, and press the RIGHT Cursor key . If there is not another waypoint to skip to, navigation will be cancelled. Cancel navigation: Fr om the Na vigation X-Press™ Menu, select Cancel Navigation, and press the RIGHT Cursor key .
37 Add a W a ypoint T ar get or T rolling Grid The W aypoint T arget shows a target consisting of concentric circles in various distance ranges centered on the wa ypoint you choose. The T rolling Grid sho ws various distance ranges in grid format from the waypoint you choose.
38 Sav e, Edit, or Delete a Route Save the current route: While you are navigating, the current route can be saved. From the Navigation X-Press™ Menu, select Save Current Route, and press the RIGHT Cursor key . Naviga tion will continue. Create a route: From the Routes submenu, select Create and press the RIGHT Cursor key .
39 Route Info: F rom the Routes submenu, select Info, and pr ess the RIGHT Cur sor key . The saved routes list will appear . Select a route, and press the RIGHT Cursor k ey .
40 Delete a sa ved track: Fr om the Sav ed T racks submenu, select Delete, and press the RIGHT Cursor ke y to display the saved tr acks list. Select the track you want to delete and pr ess the RIGHT Cursor key . Y ou will be asked to confirm deletion before the track is permanently deleted.

42 What’s on the 300 Series™ Control Head Y our 300 Series™ F ishfinder interf ace is easy to use. A combina tion of key s and special featur es allows you to control what y ou see on the display . Refer to the followi ng illustra tion, and see Key Functions for more information.
43 Ke y Functions Y our Fishfinder user interface consists of a set of easy-to-use keys that work with various on-scr een views and menus to give y ou flexibility and control o ver your fishing experience. POWER/LIGHT Ke y The POWER/LIGHT ke y is used to po wer the Fishfinder on and off .

45 4-W A Y Cursor Control Key (LEFT , RIGHT , UP , or DOWN Cursor keys) The 4-WA Y Cursor Contr ol ke y has multiple functions, which depend on the view , menu, or situation. • Menu Selection: Press the DOWN or UP Cursor keys to highlight a menu option, then press the RIGHT or LEFT Cursor ke ys to change a menu setting.
46 MARK Ke y Press the MARK ke y while in any view to mark the position of a waypoi nt. The MARK key function works if you have the GPS receive r connected. • Active Cursor: The waypoint will be marked at the cursor location. • Without Active Cursor: The waypoint will be marked at the boat location.
47 EXIT Ke y The EXIT key has multiple functions, which depend on the situation: • If an alarm is sounding , press the EXIT key to cancel the alarm. • If a menu tab is selected , press the EXIT k ey to exit the menu mode and return to the view. • If a menu is active , press the EXIT key to return to the previo us level in the menu system.
48 Multi-Media Card (MMC)/SD Slot The multi-media car d (MMC)/SD slot on your control head can be used with MMC/SD cards (optional-purchase required) to add detailed charts to y our Fishfinder or export navigation data from your Fishfinder (see Introduction to Navigation ).
49 T he Menu System The Menu System is divided into easy-to-use menu modules as follows: • Start-Up Options Menu: Press the MENU key during the power on sequence to view the Start -Up Options Menu. Fr om the Start-Up Option s Menu, you can choose the following Fishfinder Modes: Normal, Simulator , and System Status.
50 Start -Up Options Menu Press the MENU k ey during the po wer on sequence to view the Start-Up Options Menu, and select one of the modes described on the following pages. 52 Self T est displays results from the internal diagnostic self test, including unit serial number , Printed Circuit Board (PCB) serial number , software revision, total hours of opera tion, and the input voltage. Accessory T est lists the accessories connected to the system.
53 GPS Diagnostic V iew shows a sky chart and numerical data from the GPS receiver . T he sky chart shows the location of each visible GPS satellite with its satellite number and a signal strength bar . A dark gra y bar indicates that the satellite is being used to determine your current position.
54 X -Press™ Menu The X -Press™ Menu provides a shortcut to your most frequently-used settings. T he options prov ided on the X -Press™ Menu correspond with the current view . F or example, if you are in a Sonar V iew and press the MENU k ey once, the Sonar X-Press™ Menu will display .
55 Main Menu The Main Menu provides the standard set of menu options, including the settings that are changed less frequently . The Main Menu is organized under the following tabs to help you find a specific menu item quickly: Alarm s, Sonar , Navigation, Chart, Setup, and Vie ws.

60 Sensitivity Settings: Low = 1, High = 20; Default = 10 Sensitivity controls how much detail is shown on the display and will adjust the sensitivity of all sonar frequencies. When operat ing in very clear water or grea ter depths, increase the sensitivity to see weaker returns that may be of interest.

63 Bottom Lock (Sonar Zoom View only) Settings: Off, On; Default = Off Bottom Lock changes the mode of the zoomed view in the Sonar Zoom V iew . Bottom Lock continuously gr aphs the bottom at a constant point on the displa y regardle ss of changes in depth.
64 Navigation X-Press™ Menu (Navigation Views only) The Navigation X -Press™ Menu pro vides a shortcut to your most frequently-used settings. Press the MENU key once while in the Bir d's Eye, Cha rt , or C omb o View to acc ess the Naviga tion X-Pr ess™ Menu.
65 W aypoint [Name] (Only with an active cursor on a waypoint) Settings: Edit, Delete, T arget, Grid W aypoint [Name] allows y ou to view the W a ypoints submenu for the wa ypoint under your cur sor .
66 Clear Current T rack Settings: Follow screen instructions to activate. Clear Current T rack allows you to clear the current track on the display and start a new track at the present position. Sav e Current Route (only when Navigating) Settings: Follow screen instructions to activate.
67 Remov e Grid (only if a Grid is Active) Settings: Press the RIGHT Cursor key to activate. Remove Grid removes the wa ypoint grid fr om the displa y .

70 Delete Recording (optional-purchase MMC/SD Card, Snapshot and Recording View only) Settings: Follow screen instructions to activate. Delete Recording allows you to delete a single sonar recording.
71 Playback Speed (optional-purchase MMC/SD Card, Snapshot and Recording View only) Settings: Record, Rewind1, Rewind2, Slow Play Rev erse, P ause, Slow Play , Normal Play , Fast Forward1, Fast Forwar d2, Stop Playback S peed allo ws you to specify the playback speed for a sonar r ecording from the Snapshot and Recording Vie w .
72 Stop Playback (optional-purchase MMC/SD Card only) Settings: Press the RIGHT Cursor key to activate. Stop Playback allo ws you to stop pla yback of a sonar recording fr om any view . This menu option is only available when an optional-pur chase MMC/SD card is installed and Recording Playback is active.
73 Alarms Menu T ab From any view , press the MENU key twice to access the Main Menu. The Alarms tab will be the default selection. NO TE: Wh en an ala rm is tri gge re d, y ou ca n si len ce it by pr es sin g an y ke y .
74 Depth Alarm Settings: OFF , 1 to 100 feet, or 0.5 to 30 meters [International Models only]; Default = OFF Depth Alarm sounds when the depth becomes equal to or less than the menu setting.
75 T emp. Alarm Se tt in gs : O ff, 33 -1 20 Fah re nh ei t, 0- 50 Ce ls i us [International Models only]; Default = Off T emp. Alarm sounds when the water temperature detected by the Fishfinder reaches the T emp. Alarm setting, which is either set in degrees Fahr enheit or Celsius [International Models only].
76 Arrival Alarm Settings: Off, 25 to 3000 ft, 10 to 1000 m [International Models only]; Default = 150 ft, 50 m Arrival Alarm sounds when the boat has either exceeded the distance to the destination wa ypoint, or has entered the Arrival Alarm Circle, based on the menu setting when navigating.

78 Beam Select Set ti ngs : 20 0/8 3 kH z, 20 0 kH z, 8 3 kHz ; De fau lt = 200 k Hz Beam Select sets which sonar r eturns from the transducer will be displayed on the screen.
79 Surface Clutter Settings: Low = 1 to High = 10; Default = 5 Surface Clutter adjusts the filter that remov es surface clutter noise caused by algae and aer ation.
80 Fish ID+™ Settings: Off, On; Default = Off Fi sh ID+™ uses adv an ced sig nal pr oces sin g to interp re t sonar retur ns and wil l dis pla y a Fi sh Symbo l when ver y selec tiv e req uir eme nts ar e met.
81 Fish ID Sensitivity Settings: Low = 1, High = 10; Default = 5 Fis h ID Sensit ivity adjusts the thre shold of th e F ish ID +™ de tection algo rithms. Select ing a higher setti ng allows wea ker retur ns to be display ed as fish. This is useful fo r iden tifying small er fis h spec ies or baitfi sh.
