Operations 20 Oper atio ns P ower up the server To power up the server, press the Power On/Standby button. P ower down the server Before powering down the server for any upgrade or mainten ance procedures, perfor m a backup of crit ical server data and prog rams.

Operations 22 2. After performing the installation or maintenance procedure, slide the ser ver back into the enclosure, and then press the server firmly into the enc losure to secure it in place. 3. Do one of the following: o In a server that uses thumbscrew rack ears, tighten the captive thumbscrews.
Operations 23 A ccess the product rear pane l O pening the cable management arm To access the server rear panel: 1. Release the cable management arm. 2. Open the cable manag ement arm. The cable manageme nt arm can be right - mounted o r left - mounted.
Operations 24 R emove the security bezel (option al) To access the fron t panel components, unlock and then remov e the security bezel. The security bezel is on ly supported in serve rs that are using the quick - release latch rack ears.
Operations 25 6. Lift and remov e the access p anel. Turn the access panel ov er to locate the HP ProLiant D L80 Gen9 Server hood lab el. This label provides convenient access to component identification, LED s tatus indicators, and system maintenance switch settings information.
Operations 26 2. Align the hole in the access panel latch w ith the guide pin on the chassis. 3. Close the acces s panel latch. The access panel slid es to a closed posit ion.
Operations 27 5. Remove the ai r baffle. I nstall the ai r baffle CAUTION: For proper cooling, do not op erate the server without the a ccess panel, baffles, expansion slot cove rs, or blanks insta lled. If the serv er supports hot - p lug components, minimiz e the amount of time the access panel is o pen.
Operations 28 4. Power up the serv er (on page 20 ). R emove the PCI riser c ages CAUTION: To prevent damag e to the server or e xpansion boards, power down t he server, and disconnect all power cords before removi ng or installing the PCI riser cage.
Operations 29 a. Disconnect all cables connected to existing expansio n boards. b. Loosen the captive thumbscrew on the front end of the PCI riser cage, and then remove t he screw from its rear end. c. Grasp the PCI riser cage at t he touch points and lift it out of the chassis.
Operations 30 c. Tighten the captive thumbscrew on the front end of th e riser cage. 2. If you are installing the Flexib leLOM riser cage in the seco ndary PCIe riser locatio n, do the following: a. Align the riser board with the corresponding connectors on the system board, and then press down the PCI riser cage.

Setup 32 S etup O ptional installa tion services Delivered b y experienced, certified engin eers, HP Care Pack services help y ou keep your serve rs up and running with s upport packages tailor ed specifically for HP ProLiant systems. HP Care Packs let you integrate both hardware and so ftware support into a single pac kage.
Setup 33 • Leav e a minimum clearance of 63.5 cm (25 in) in fron t of the rack. • Leave a minimum clear ance of 76.2 cm (30 i n) behind the rack. • Leave a minimum c learance of 121.9 cm (48 in) from the back of the rac k to the back of another rack or row of racks.
Setup 34 P ower require ments Installation of this eq uipment must comply wit h local and regional electri cal regulations governing the installation of information technology equipment by licensed elec tricians.

Setup 36 WARNING: When insta lling a server in a telco rack, be sure that th e rack frame is a dequately secured at the top and bottom to the bui lding structure. Setup 40 WARNING: To reduce the risk of electric shock or damage to the equipment: • Do not disable the power cord grounding plug. The g rounding plug is an im portant safety feature. • Plug the power cord int o a grounded (earthed) electrical outlet that is easily accessible at all times.
Setup 41 I nstalling th e operating system This HP ProLiant server doe s not ship with provisioning media. Everything needed to manage and ins tall the system soft ware and firmwa re is preloade d on the server. To operate properly, the server mus t have a supported operating system.

Hardware options installation 62 9. Install the processor. Verify that the processor is ful ly seated in the processor retaining bracket by visually inspecting t he processor in stallation guid es on either side o f the processor. THE PINS ON THE SYSTEM BOARD AR E VERY FRAGILE AND E ASILY DAMAGED.
Hardware options installation 63 11. Press and hold the pr ocessor retaining bracket in p lace, and then close each pro cessor locking lever. Press only in the area indicated on the processor re taining bracket. 12. Remov e the therma l interface prot ective cover from the heatsink.
