Install software for Mac computers on a wired network Configure the IP address 1. Connect the network cable to the product and to the n e twork. 2. Wait for 60 seconds before continuing. D uring th is time, the network recognizes the product and assigns an IP address or host name for the product.
Install software for Mac computers on a wireless network Before installing the product software, make sure the product is no t connected to the network using a network cable.
3. Select Hewlett Packard . 4. Select HP Uninstaller . 5. Select the product from the list of devices, and then click the Uninstall button. 6. After the software is uninstalled, restart the computer and empty the T rash.
Software for Mac computers Supported utilities for Mac ( network models onl y) HP Utility for Mac Use the HP Utility to set up produc t features that are not available in the printer driv er. You can use the HP Utility when the product uses a un iversal serial bus (USB) cable or is connected to a TCP/IP-based ne twork.
Print with Mac Cancel a print job w ith Mac 1. If the print job is cu rrently printing, cancel it by pressing the Cancel button on the product control panel. NOTE: Pressi ng the Cancel button clear s th e job tha t th e prod uct is cur rentl y proce ssing.
Create a printing pr eset 1. On th e File menu, click the Print option. 2. Select the driver. 3. Select the print settings that you want to save for reuse. 4. In th e Presets menu, click the Save As.. . option, and type a name for the preset. 5. Clic k the OK button.
Print multiple pages on one sheet of paper with Mac 1. On th e File menu, click the Print option. 2. Select the driver. 3. Open the Lay out menu. 4. From the Pag es per Sheet menu, selec t the number of p ages that you want to print on each sheet (1, 2, 4, 6, 9, or 16).
Set the color options wi th Mac Use the Color Options menu or the Color/Quality Options menu to control how colo rs are interpreted and printed from software programs. 1. Connect with USB This product supports a USB 2.0 connection. Use an A-to-B type USB cable . HP recommends using a cable that is no longer than 2 m (6.5 ft). CAUTION: Do not conne ct the USB cable until the installation softwa re prompts you t o co nnect it.
NOTE: The installation CD is not required during an H P Smart Install. Do not insert the software installation CD into the computer CD drive. 1. Turn the product on.
Connect to a network (network mode ls only) The product can connect to wired or wireless networks. NOTE: You cannot connect to a wired and wireless ne twork simultaneously.
Configure the IP address 1. Connect the network cable to the product and to the n e twork. 2. Wait for 60 seconds before continuing. D uring th is time, the network recognizes the product and assigns an IP address or host name for the product.
5. Clic k the Downlo ad button. 6. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the product ins tallation. Install the s oft ware with the software CD 1. Quit all p rogr ams on the com pute r. 2. Install the software from the CD. 3. Follow the on screen instructions.
NOTE: The installation CD is not required during a H P Smart Install. Do not insert the software installation CD into the computer CD drive. 1. Turn on the product, and then connect the USB cable to the product and the computer. The installation program should start automat ically.
3. When the installation is co mplete, p r int a configur ation page to make sure that the product has a SSID n ame. 4. When installation is complete, d isconnect the USB cable.
Infrastructur e wireless network The product comm unicates with othe r devices on the netw ork through a wireless router. Ad-hoc wireless ne twork The product comm unicates directly with other wireless devices without u sing a wireless r outer. All devices on the ad hoc network must ha ve the following: ● 802.
To prevent other users from accessing your network, turn on WPA or WEP data encryption. ● Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP): WEP is the orig inal native security mechanism in the 802.11 standard. You create a unique key containing hexadecimal or alphanumeric characters, which other users must provide before the y can access your network.

Understand p aper use This product supports a variety of paper and other pr int med ia in accordance with the guidelines in this user guide. Paper or print media that does not m eet these guidelines might cause poor print quality, increased jams, and premature wear on the product.

Basic print tasks with Windows The methods to open the print dialog fro m software programs can v ary. The procedur es that follow include a typical method. Some so ftware programs do not have a File menu. See the documentation for your software program to learn how to open the print dialog.

Change the number of prin t copies with Windows 1. On th e File menu in the software program, click Print . 2. Select the product, and then selec t the number of copies. Save custom print settings for reuse wi th Windows Use a printing s hortcut with Windows 1.
3. Click the Printing Shortcuts tab. 4. Select one of the shortcu ts, and then click the OK button. NOTE: When you select a shortcut, the corresponding settings chang e on the other tabs in the printer driver. Create printing shortcuts 1. On the File menu in the software program, click Print .
2. Select the product, and then click the Properties or Pr efer ence s button. 3. Click the Printing Shortcuts tab. 4. Select an ex isting shortcut as a bas e. NOTE: Always select a shortcut before adjusting any of the settings on the right side of the screen.
5. Select the print options for the new shortcu t. NOTE: Y ou can select the print options on this tab or on any other tab in t h e printer driver. After selecting options on other tabs, return to the Printing Shortcuts tab before continuing with the nex t step.
Select a custo m page size w ith Windows 1. On th e File menu in the software program, click Print . 2. Select the product, and then c lick the Properties or Pr efere nces button. 3. Clic k the Paper/Quality tab. 4. Clic k the Custom button. 5. Type a name for the custom size and specify the d imensions.

Economy settings Set Auto-On/Auto-Off mode Auto-OnAuto-Off is an energy-saving featur e of this product. After a user-spe cified time period , the product automatically reduces its power consumption. The prod uct retur ns to the ready state when a button is pressed or a print job is received.
Manage supplies and a ccessories Correctly using, storing, and mon it oring the print cartridge and imaging drum can help ensure high- quality print output.

Recycle suppli es To recycle a genuine HP print cartridge or imaging drum, p lace the used supply in the box in which the supply arrived. Use the enclosed return label to send the used supply to HP for recycling. F or complete information, see the recycling guide that is included with each new HP supply item.
Replacement i nstructions Replace the pri nt cartridges When a print cartridge approaches the end of its useful life, you can continue printing with the current print cartridge until it no lon ger yields acceptable print quality. Once an HP print cartridge has reached “very low” , HP’s Premium Protection Warranty on tha t supply has ended.
3. Grasp the old print cartridge by the center handle and remove. 4. Remove the new print cartridge from the packaging. Place the used print cartridge in the bag a nd box for recycling. CAUTION: To prevent damage to the print cartridge, hold the print cartridge at each end.
7. Remove the protective shielding from the new print cartridge. 8. Grasp the print cartridge by the center handle and insert into the product. NOTE: C ompare the color lab el on the print cartridge to the color label in the carousel slot to make s ure the print cartridge color matches the carousel position.
9. Close the print cartridge door. NOTE: A fter closing the print cartridge door, the Ready light and A ttention light will flash. Allow up to three minutes for the product to calibrate. NOTE: If replacing another print cartridg e, you must close the print cartridge door before pressing the Cartridge button of the next print cartridge.
Replace the imag ing drum NOTE: The imag ing drum installed in this product is covered by the product warranty. Replacement imaging drums have a one-y ear limited warranty from the date of installation.
3. Lift the two levers that hold the imaging drum. 4. Remove the old imaging drum. 5. Remove the new imaging drum from the packaging. Place the used imaging drum in the bag a nd box for recycling.
6. Remove the protective shielding from the new imaging drum. CAUTION: To prevent damage , do not expose the imaging drum to light. Co ver it with a piece of paper. CAUTION: Do not touch the green roller. Fingerprints on the imaging drum can c ause print-quality problems.
9. Close the front cover. 10. Close the print cartridge door. NOTE: A fter closing the print cartridge door, the Ready light and A ttention light will flash.
Clean the product Clean the paper path If you are experiencing toner spec ks or dots on the printouts, clean the pa per path. This process uses a transparency to remove dust and toner from the paper path. Do no t use bond or rough paper. NOTE: Fo r best results use a sheet of LaserJet trans pare ncy.

Solve p roblems checklist Follow these steps when trying to solve a problem with the product. ● Step 1: Make sure that the product is set up correctly ● Step 2: Check the c abling or wireless conn.

Restore fact ory settin gs Restoring the factory-set defaults returns most of the settings to the factory defaults. It will not reset the page count, tray size, or langu age. To restore the product to the factor y-default settings, follow these step s.
