vi HP Om niBook 900 Introduction This service m anual provides reference inform ation for the HP OmniBook 900. It is intended to be used by HP-authorized serv ice personnel in the installation, servicing, and repair of these products. The manual is designed to be self- contained.

1-4 Product Inf orm ation HP OmniBook 900 Turning the Omni Book On and Off • On. Press the blue power button to turn on the OmniBook. • Standby . The display turns off autom atically if the computer is inactiv e for about 2 minutes.

HP Om niBook 900 Removal and Replac ement 2-7 Removal Procedure 1. Unplug the ac adapter, if present, and remov e the battery. 2. Turn the unit bottom side up and rem ove the hard drive screw from the bottom case. 3. Open the hard drive door, then pull out the hard drive by its plastic tab.

If you cover the hole, the hard drive could fail pr ematur ely . • The small plastic tabs on the connector face the top of the driv e, and the metal shield fits behind the tabs.

2-12 Removal and Replac ement HP Om niBook 900 Reassembly Notes • For the 12-inch display , make sure the L CD module and flex cable have sm all foam pads present to ensure good connections: Two pads on the back of the L CD module on the internal connections near the top- left and bottom- left corners.

Slip its front tabs into the slots, then snap the back edge into place.

Align the arrow on the upper right corner of the CPU module with the m atching arrow on the connec tor.

2-24 Removal and Replac ement HP Om niBook 900 2. Carefully cut out the new serial label just inside the border and place it into the inner recess in the bottom case. The bottom of the label goes toward the front of the case. 3. While holding the paper label in place, attach a serial label overlay into the outer recess.

It is the only recommended tool that tests the functionality of the P CMCIA slots using a PCMC IA card.

An important point after buying a device HP HP OmniBook 900 (or even before the purchase) is to read its user manual. We should do this for several simple reasons:
