Label Icon Name and Description When the HP All-in-One is off, a minimal amount of power is still used by the product. To completely disconnect the power supply to the HP All-in-One, turn the product off, and then unplug the power cord.

5 Connection information The HP All-in-One come s equipped with a USB port so you can connect di rectly to a computer using a USB cab le. You can also share the product over an existing home network.

HP All-in-One Paper or HP Printing Paper • HP All-in-O ne Paper is specifically designed for H P All-in-One products. It ha s an extra bright bl ue-white shade that pro duc es sharper text and richer colors than ordinary multifunction papers. • HP Printing Paper is a high-quality multif unction pape r.
NOTE: For a complete list of su pported media sizes, see the printer so ftware. Papers to avoid fo r all print and copy jobs • Any size paper othe r than those list ed in the printer software. • Paper with cutou ts or perforations (unless specifically desi gned for use with HP inkjet devices).
To load full-size p aper 1. Pull out the tray extension. NOTE: When you use leg al-size paper, leave the tr ay extender closed. 2. Slide the paper-width guid e to its outermost position.
4. Insert the stack of paper i nto the input tray with the short edge forward. Ensure that the side you want to print on faces down. Sli de the stack of paper to ward the product until it stops. CAUTION: Make sure that the product is id le and silent when you load paper into the input tra y .
To load photo paper in the i nput tray 1. Remove all paper from the input tray. 2. Insert the stack of pho to paper into the far-right side of the input tr ay with the print side or glossy si de down and short edge forward. Slide the sta ck of photo paper toward the produ ct until it stops.
To load index cards i n the input tray 1. Remove all pape r from the input tray. 2. Insert the stack of cards vert ically (short edge facing outwards), with the si de you want to print on facing down, into the far-right si de of the input tray. Slide the stack of cards forward until it stops.
To load envel opes 1. Remove all paper from the input tray. 2. Insert one or more envelopes into the far-righ t side of the input tray, with the envelope flaps on the left and facing up. Slide the stack of e nvelopes forward until it stops. TIP: To avoid paper ja ms, tuck the flap inside each envel ope.

7 Print from your computer The HP All-in-On e can be used with any software ap plication that allows printing. You can print a range of pr ojects, such as borderless images, newsletters, greeting cards, iron-on transfers, and posters.
Make the HP All-in-One the default printer You can set the HP All-in-O ne as the default printer to use from a ll software applications. This means that th e HP All-in-One is automatically selected i n the printer list when you select Print f rom the File menu in a software application.

Printing in maximum dpi takes longer than printi ng with other settings and requires a large amount of disk spa ce. To print in Ma ximum dpi mo de 1. Make sure you ha ve paper loaded in the input tray. 2. On the File menu in your softwa re application, click Print .
7. For binding, do one of the f ollowing: • For binding on the top like a not ebook or calendar, select the Flip Pages Up check box. This causes the odd and even pages of your do cument to print opposite of each other top-to-bottom.
To print a multip le-page do cument as a bookle t 1. Load paper into the input tray. The paper shou ld be thick enough so that the image s do not show thro ugh to the other side. 2. On the File menu in your softwa re application, click Print . 3. Make sure the product is the selected printer.

Print multip le pages o n a sin gle sheet You can print up t o 16 pages on a single sheet of paper. 12 4 3 To print multipl e pages on a single sheet 1. Make sure you ha ve paper loaded in the input tray. 2. On the File menu in your softwa re application, click Print .
Print a multip le-page docume nt in reverse order Because of the way the pa per feeds through the HP All-in-One, th e first page that prints is print side up at the botto m of the stack. Usually this means you nee d to put the printed pages in the correct order.
Reverse an im age for ir on-on transf ers This feature reverses an image so you can use it fo r iron-on transf ers. This feature is also useful for transparencie s when you want to make notations o n the back of the transparency w ithout scratching the original.
6. In the Basic Options area, from the Paper Type drop-down list, select More . Then select the appropriate paper type. TIP: If you want to make notat i ons on the back of the t ransparencies and erase them later without scratching the ori ginal, click the Advanced tab, and select the Mirror Image check box.
Print a poster You can create a post er by printing a document on multip le pages. The HP All-in-One prints dotte d lines on some pages to indicate where to trim the pages bef ore taping them together. To print a poster 1. Make sure you ha ve paper loaded in the input tray.
To print a W eb page 1. Make sure you have paper loaded in the input tray. 2. On the File menu in your Web browser, click Print . TIP: For best results, select HP Smart Web Printing on the File menu. A check mark appears when it is se lected. The Print dialog box appea rs.
4. Select the print j ob you want to cancel. 5. On the Document menu, click Cancel Prin ting or Cancel , or press the Delete key on your keyboard. It can take a few mome nts for the print job to be cancelled . To stop a print job fro m the computer (Windows 2000 user s) 1.

8 Use the copy features The HP All-in-One allows you to prod uce high-qual ity color and black- and-white copi es on a variety of paper types. You can enlarge o r reduce the size of an original to fi t a specific paper size, ad just the copy quality, and make high-quality copies of photos, including bo rderless copies.

9 Use the scan features Scanning is the process o f converting text and pictures into an electro nic format for your computer. You can scan almost anyth i ng (photos, magazine arti cles and text documents) on the HP All-in -One.
computer, look for the HP Digital Imaging Monitor icon in the system tray at the lower right side of the screen, ne ar the time. NOTE: Closing the HP Digi tal Imaging Monitor icon in the Windows syst em tray can cause the HP All-in-One to lose some of its scan functionality.
Edit a scanned image You can edit a scanned i mage, such as a photo or graphic, using the software you installed with th e HP All-in-One. Using this softw are, you can rotate or crop the image, as well as adjust the brigh tness, contrast, and color saturation .

10 Maintain the HP All-in-One The HP All-in -One requires l ittle maintena nce. Sometimes yo u might want to clean the glass and lid backing to re move surface dust and ensure that yo ur copies and scans remain clear. You wil l also need to rep lace, align, or clean your prin t cartridges from time to time.
3. Dry the glas s with a dry, soft, li nt-free cloth to preve nt spotting. 4. Plug in the power cord, and then turn on the product. Clean the l id backing Minor debris can accumulate on the white do cument backing located underneath the l id of the HP All-in-O ne.
4. If further cleaning is needed , repeat the previous steps usin g isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol, and wipe the backing thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove any residual alcohol. CAUTION: Be careful not to spill alcohol o n the glass or exterior of the product, as this might damage it.

NOTE: Handle the print cartridges carefully. Dropping or jarri ng cartridges can cause temporary printing pro blems, or even permanent dama ge. Check the estimate d ink levels You can easily check the ink su pply level to determine how soon you might need to replace a print cartridge.

To replace the pri nt cartridges 1. Make sure the product is on and you h ave letter or A4 unused plai n white paper loaded in the input tray. 2. Open the print cartridge door. The print carriage should move to the fa r right side of the product. If the print carriage does not move to the right side, turn the product off, and the n on.
6. Remove the new print cartridge from its packa ging, being careful to touch only the black plastic. Gently rem ove the plastic tape using the pin k pull tab. 1 Copper-colored contacts 2 Plastic tape with pink pull tab (must be removed before installing ) 3 Ink nozzles under tape CAUTION: Do not touch the copper-colored co ntacts or ink nozzles.
8. Close the print cartridge door. 9. Afte r the print cartri dge alignment sh eet prints, load it on the right front co rner of the glass with the top of the page to the right. 10. Press the Scan button. The product aligns the pr int cartridges. Recycle or discard the print cartridge alignment sh eet.

To align newly ins talled print cartridges 1. Before installing the print cartridges, make sure you have l etter or A4 unused plain white paper loade d in the input tray. Once you install the cartri dges, the product prints a pri nt cartridge alignment sheet.
3. Click the Device Services tab. 4. Click Clean the Print Cartri dges . 5. Follow the promp ts until you are satisfied with the quality o f the output, and then clic k Done . If print quality sti ll seems poor after you clean the print cartri dges, try cleaning the print cartridge con tacts before replacing the af fected print cartridg e.
2. Wait until the print carriage is idle a nd silent, and then unplug the power cord from the back of the produ ct. 3. Lightly press down on the pri nt cartridge to release it, and then pull it towards you ou t of the slot. NOTE: Do not remove both print cart ridges at the same time.
9. Repeat if neces sary for the other print cartridge. 10. Gently cl ose the print cartridge door and plug the power cord into the back of the product.
To clean the area around the ink n ozzles 1. Turn on the product and open the pr int cartridge door. The print carriage moves to the far right side of t he product. 2. Wait until the print carriage is idle a nd silent, and then unplug the power cord from the back of the produ ct.
7. Hold the print cartridge with the HP logo on top, an d insert the print cartridge back into the slot. Make su re you push the print cartridge in firm ly until it snaps into place. 8. Repeat if neces sary for the other print cartridge. 9. Gently close the print cartri dge door an d plug the powe r cord into the b ack of the product.
11 Shop for ink supplies For a list of print cart ridge numbers, see the printed docu mentation that came with the HP All-in-One . You can also use the software that came with the HP All-in-One to find out the reorder number fo r all the print cartridges.

• Test the power outlet to make su re it is working. Plug in an appliance that you know works, and see if the app liance has power. If not, then t here might be a problem with the p ower outlet. • If you plugged the produ ct into a switched outlet, make sure the outlet is swi tched on.
Solution 5: Contact HP supp ort for service Solution: If you have comple ted all of the steps provide d in the previous solution s and are still having a probl em, contact HP support for serv ice. Go to: www.hp.com/support . If prompted, choose yo ur country/region, and the n click Contact HP for technical support.
After setting up the product, it d oes not print Solution: • Look at the On butt on located on the product. If it is not lit, the product is turned off. Make sure t he power cord is firmly connect ed to the product and p lugged into a power out let.
• Check other printers or scanners. You might need to disconnect older products from your computer. • Try connecting the U SB cable to another USB port on your comput er. After you check the connections, try restarting your comput er. Turn the product off and then on again.
A red X appears on the USB con nect prompt Solution: Verify that the product is set up properly, and then try to re-establish the connection. To retry the USB connection 1. Verify that the USB cable is set up properly as follows: • Unplug the USB cable and plug it in again or try plugging the USB cable into a different U SB port.
Some of the buttons are missing in th e HP Solution Center Solution: If the appropriat e icons and buttons for your pro duct do not appear in t he HP Solution Cente r, your installation might not be co mplete, and you might need to uninstall and then reinstall t he software.

When the softwa re installation is complete, the HP Digital Imaging Monitor icon appears in the Windows system tray. To verify that t he software is properly installed, double-click the HP Solution Ce nter icon on the desktop.
If the jammed pa per is not in the rear roll ers, check the front a ccess door. Occasionally small media jams may not be re achable from the rear access door. Use the fron t access door if unable t o clear the jam from the rear access door. To clear a paper ja m from the rear access door 1.
2. Gently pull out any paper that might have jamme d. CAUTION: If the paper tears when you are removing it, check fo r torn pieces of paper that might be remaining inside the product. If you do not remove all the pieces of paper from the product, more paper jams are likely to occur.

The following tips he lp maintain HP print cartridges and ensu re consistent print qualit y.
Resolving print ca rtridge problems Many problems can be resolved w ith the following procedures. If you receive a specific error message about th e print cartridges, see Print cartridge messages for more information. To troubleshoot the print cartridges 1.
NOTE: In the procedures be low, the problem cartridge is identified by the blinking light. The light on the left bl inks when the tri-color print ca rtridge (on the left) is the problem, the light on the right blinks when the black cartri dge (on the right) is the problem, and both ligh ts blink when both cartridges are the problem.
If this did not so lve the issue, try the next solution. Solution 2: Clean the print cartridge contacts Solution: If the print cartridge select ion number is correct and the previous soluti on did not resolve the pr oblem, try cleaning the print cartridge.
3. Make sure you turn off the product by pressing the On but ton. CAUTION: Do not turn off the prod uct by turning off a power strip o r unplugging the power cord from it. If you improperly turn off the pr oduct, the print carriage does not return to th e correct position and the print cartridg es can dry out.
Wrong, inaccurate, or bl eeding colors If your printout has o ne of the fo llowing print q uality problems, try th e solutions in this section for help.
For more information, see: • Load paper • Information on paper Cause: The paper was loaded incorrectly, or it was wrinkled or too thick. If this did not solve the issue, try the n ext solution.
Solution 5: Check the print settings Solution: Check the print settings. • Check the print set tings to see if the color settings are i ncorrect. For example, check to see if the do cument is set to print in grayscale.
NOTE: HP cannot guarantee t he quality or reliability of non-HP supplies. Pri nter service or repairs requ ired as a result of using a non-H P supply will not be covered under warrant y. If you believe you pu rchased genuine HP print cartridges, go to: www.
If this did not so lve the issue, try the next solution. Solution 4: Clean the pri nt cartridges Solution: Print a self-test report to de termine if there is a problem with t he print cartridges. If t he self-test report show s a problem, clean the print cartridges.
Solution 2: Check the print q uality setting Solution: Check the quality setting. Use a hi gher quality setting to increase the amount of ink us ed for printing. NOTE: For maximum dpi reso lution, go to the Advanced tab, and then select Enabled from the Maximum dpi drop-down list .

Cause: The print cartridges n eeded to be cleaned or there w as insufficient ink. Printouts seem blurry or fuzzy Try the following sol utions if your printout is smudged or unclear. NOTE: There is no problem with the ink supplies and replacing the print cartridg es is unnecessary.
Solution: HP recommends that yo u use HP Advanced Papers or any other paper type that is ap propriate for the product. Always make sure the paper you are printing on is flat.
Ink streaks on the back of the paper Try the following sol utions if there is smeared ink on the back o f your printout. • Solution 1: Print o n a page of plain paper • Solution 2: W ait while the.
Cause: There was not eno ugh paper in the input tray. The text ed ges are jagged Try the followi ng solutions if the text in y our pri ntouts is not sharp and the edges are rough. NOTE: There is no problem w ith the ink supplies and replacin g the print cartridges is un necessary.
Cause: A stack of envelopes wa s loaded incorrectly. If this did not solve the issue, try the n ext solution. Solution 2: Load a differ e nt type of envelope Solution: Do not use shiny or embossed en velopes or envelopes that have clasps or windows. Cause: The wrong type of e nvelope was loaded.
The produ ct is not r esponding Try the following so lutions to resolve the issue. Solutio ns are listed in order, with th e most likely solution f irst. If the first solution does not sol ve the problem, continue trying the remaining soluti ons until the issue is resolved.
Solution 4: Check for a p rint carriage stall Solution: Turn off the product. Lower the input tray, open the front access door, and remove any object s that are blocking th e print carriage (including an y packing materials), and then t urn on the product.
Solution 6: M ake sure that the product is turned on Solution: Look at th e On button locat ed on the product. If it i s not lit, the product is turned off. M ake sure the power cord is firmly conne cted to the product an d plugged into a power outlet.
The product prints meanin gless characters Try the following sol utions to resolve the issue. Solut ions are listed in order, with the m ost likely solution first. If the first so lution does not solve the problem, cont inue trying the remaining solut ions until the issue is resolved.
Some documents t ake a long time to print. If not hing has printed several minutes after you sent a print job t o the product, check the product displ ay to see if there are any messages. Cause: The product was bu sy with another task. If this did not so lve the issue, try the next solution.
Solution 5: Lo ad more paper in the i nput tray Solution: If the product has only a few sheets rema ining, load more paper in the input tray. If there i s plenty of pape r in the input tray, remove the pape r, tap the stack of paper against a flat surface, and reload the paper in to the input tray.
Cause: The print settings were set to print the first page of your document first. Because of the way th e paper feeds through the product, this me ans the first page will be print side up at the bottom of the stack. The margins a re not printing as expected Try the following so lutions to resolve the issue.
Solution 3: Check the paper gui de position Solution: Remove the stack of paper fr om the input tray, and then reload the paper. 3. Lightly press down on the print cartridge to release it, and the n pull it towards you out of the slot. NOTE: Do not remove both print cartridg es at th e same ti me. Remove and clean each prin t cartridge one at a tim e. Do not leave a prin t cartridge outside the HP All-in- One for more t han 30 minute s.
9. Repeat if necessary for the other print cartridge. 10. Gent ly close the print cartridge door and plug the p ower cord into the back of the product. Cause: The print cartridge contacts n eeded to be cleaned. If this did not solve the issue, try the n ext solution.
If you are using pr int cartridges that are not compati ble with the product, replace the indicated print cartridges with print cartridges that are compatible. If it appears t hat you are using the correct print cartridge s, proceed to the next solution.
