Install software for Mac c omputers on a wired ne twork (IP) Obt ain th e IP ad dre ss 1. Connect the network cabl e to the p roduct and to the network . 2. Wait for 60 seconds before co ntinuing. Dur ing this ti me, the ne twork recogni zes the product a nd assigns an IP addr ess or host name for the produc t.
Install software for Mac computers on a wirele ss network Before installi ng the prod uct softwa re, make s ure the pro duct is not connected t o the netwo rk using a netw ork c able.

Connect the product to a wireless network us ing WPS If y our wireless router supports W i-Fi Prote cted Setup ( WPS), this is the sim plest way to set up the prod uct on a wirel ess ne twor k. 1. Press the W PS button on your wirele ss router. 2. Press and hold the Wireless button on the prod uct control p anel for two seconds .
Install th e softwa re for a wire less product currently on the network If the product alr eady has a n IP address on a w ireless ne twork and you want to inst all product s oftware on a computer , complete the follow ing steps. 1. From the p roduct cont rol pane l, print a c onfiguratio n page to obtain the pr oduct I P address.
Advanced wi reless se tup Wireless communicatio n modes You ca n use on e of two wi reless c ommunicatio n modes: infrastru cture o r ad-hoc. Infra struc ture wi reless network (recommended) The product communicates with other devices on the network through a wireless router.
To prevent othe r users from acc essing your network, turn on WPA or WE P data encrypti on. ● Wired Equi valent Pri vacy (WEP): WE P is the origin al native secu rity mech anism in the 80 2.11 standard. You cr eate a unique key cont aining h exadecimal character s, which other us ers must provide before they can acces s your network.

Understand paper use This pr oduct suppor ts a variet y of paper an d other prin t media in a ccordance w ith the guideli nes in this user gui de. Paper or print media tha t does not meet these guideline s might cause poor pri nt quality, incre ased jams, and prematur e wear on the product.
Media t ype Do Do not Heavy paper ● Use only heavy paper that is approved for use in laser printers and meets the weight specifications for this produc t. ● Do not use paper that is heavier than the recom mended media specification for this product unless it is HP paper that has been approved for use in this product.
Supported pap er sizes This product su pports a nu mber of pape r size s, and it adapts t o various paper. NOT E: To obtain bes t print result s, select th e appropriate paper size and typ e in your print dr iver before prin ting. Configure trays By de fault, the p roduct pul ls paper fr om Tray 1. If Tray 1 is empty, the produc t pulls paper from T ray 2. Configur ing the tray on th is product ch anges the heat and speed setting s to obtain the best print qua lity for the type of pa per that you are us ing.

Cancel a pr int job 1. If the prin t job is cur rently printin g, cancel it by pressing th e Cancel button o n the product c ontrol panel. NOTE: Pressing the Cancel bu tton clears th e job that the produc t is currentl y processi ng.
Basic print tasks with Windows The m ethods to ope n the pri nt dialog fr om software programs can vary. T he proced ures that follow includ e a typical method. Som e softwar e programs d o not hav e a File menu. Se e the doc umentation for your softwa re program t o learn how to ope n the print dialog.
Change th e number o f print copies with Wind ows 1. On the File menu in the so ftware program, cli ck Pr int . 2. Select th e product, a nd then sel ect the nu mber of co pies. Save custom print settings for reuse with Windows Use a printing shortcut with Windows 1.
3. Click the Pr inting Shor tcuts tab. 4. Sel ect one o f the shortcuts , and then c lick the OK button. NOT E: When you s elect a shortcut, th e corresp onding settings change on the other tabs in the pri nter driv er. Create printing shortcuts 1. On the Fi le menu in the soft ware prog ram, clic k Print .
2. Se lect the pr oduct, an d then cl ick the Properties or Prefer ences butto n. 3. Clic k the Print ing Shortcuts tab. 4. Sele ct an existing shor tcut as a base. NOTE: Always select a short cut before adjusti ng any of th e settings on the right si de of the sc reen.
5. Sel ect the pr int options for the new shortcut. NOT E: You can select the print op tions on this tab or on any other tab in the printe r driver. After selectin g options on other tabs, return to the Printing Shortc uts tab befo re continu ing with the next step .

4. Select the Print on both sides (manually) check bo x. Click t he OK button to prin t the first side of the jo b. 5. Re trieve the pr inted stack fr om the output bin, and maintai ning the same orien tation, place it with the prin ted side facing down in Tray 2.
Print multip le pages per sh eet with Windo ws 1. On the Fi le menu in the soft ware prog ram, clic k Print . 2. Sel ect the pr oduct, and then click the Properties or Prefer ences button.
4. Sele ct the n umber of pa ges per sheet from the Pages per sh eet drop-down li st. 5. Sele ct the correct Print pa ge borders , Page order , and Orientation options. Select page orientation with Windows 1. On the Fil e menu in the softwar e program, c lick Print .
2. Sel ect the pr oduct, and then click the Properties or Prefer ences button. 3. Click the Finish ing tab. 4. In the Orientation ar ea, selec t the Portra it or Landscape option. To print the page image up side down, s elect the Rotat e by 180 degrees opti on.

Add a watermark to a document with Windows 1. On the File menu in the so ftware program, cli ck Pr int . 2. Select the p roduct, and then click the Properties or P reference s button. 3. Click the Effects tab. 4. Select a waterm ark from the Wa termarks drop -dow n list.

Adjust color Manage col or by changing the se ttings on the Color tab i n the pri nter driv er. Change the color theme for a print job 1. On the File menu in the so ftware program, cli ck Pr int . 2. Click Properties or Preference s . 3. Click the Color tab.
4. Click the Autom ati c or Manual se tti ng. ● Automatic setting: Select th is setting for most color prin t jobs ● Manua l setting: Sel ect this setting to adjust the col or settings ind ependent from o ther setti ngs. NOTE: Changin g color se ttings manua lly can im pact outpu t.
Setting description Sett ing option s Halftone Halftone options affect color output clarity and resolution. ● Smoo th provides better results for large, solid-filled print areas and enhances photogr aphs by smoothing color gradations. Select this option when uniform and sm ooth area fills are important.
Match colors The p rocess of matchin g printe r output color to y our comput er screen is com plex, becaus e printe rs and compute r monitors use different m ethods of prod ucing color.

Print inf ormation pages Informa tion pages resid e within t he product memory. Thes e pages help diagn ose and solve pr oblems with the produ ct. NOT E: If the product langua ge was not correctly se t during insta llation, you can se t the language manuall y so th e informatio n pages pri nt in one of the supp orted lan guages.
3. Press the Left arrow or Righ t arrow button to navi gate to the repo rt you wan t to print, and th en press OK to print t he report. 4. Press X to exit th e menus.
Use HP Tool boxFX The HP Toolb oxFX is program you can use to complete the follo wing tasks: ● Check the product statu s. ● Configu re the product se ttings. ● View troub leshooting in formation . You can view the HP Toolbox FX progra m when the p roduct is directly conn ected to your comp uter or is co nnected to the network.
HP ToolboxFX sections Status The Statu s folder contai ns links to the follow ing main pages: ● Device stat us . This pa ge indicate s product c onditions s uch as a jam or an e mpty tra y. After y ou correc t a problem , click Refresh st atus to update the product sta tus.
● Save /Resto re Settin gs . Save the current s ettings for the p roduct to a file on your computer. Use this file to load the same settings on to another pr oduct or t o restore t hese sett ings to this product at a later ti me. ● Product s ecurity .
Paper Setup Use the se option s to config ure your d efault produ ct settin gs. These are the sam e options that are availa ble on th e contro l panel menus. The fo llowing o ptions are av ailable for handling pr int jobs wh en the pr oduct is o ut of pa per.
Paper Types Use the se option s to configu re print m odes that co rrespond t o the var ious media types. To r eset all mode s to factor y default se ttings, select Rest ore modes .
System Set up Use the se system settings to configure miscellaneous print se ttings. Th ese setting s are not availab le on the con trol panel. NOT E: You must clic k App ly before you r changes take effe ct. Print Settings The HP ToolboxFX Print S ettings tab con tains links to the f ollowing mai n pages: ● Prin ting .

HP Embedded Web Server features The fo llowing s ections de scribe the basi c screens of the embedded Web se rver. Status ta b Provi des product, status , and configura tion inform ation. ● Devi ce St atu s : Shows the product st atus and shows the life remaining of HP sup plies, with 0% indicati ng that a supply is empty.
Print ta b Provides the ability to configu re print s ettings on the produc t. ● Prin ting : Al lows you to change the pr inting defaults for the produc t. ● PCL 5 : Allows you to chan ge the PC L 5 defaul ts for the p roduct. ● PostS cript : Al lows you to change the Pos tScript defau lts for the product .
