1 Congr atulations on your pur chase of an HP 2500C/C+/CM Professional Series Color Printer. System Requirements Please ensure that you have the following computer setup: Minimum: Windows 3.1x: 486DX-66, 8MB RAM Windows 95/98: 486DX-100, 8MB RAM Windows NT 4.
2 Significant Cost Savings and Speed Gains with HP’s New Modular Ink Delivery System (MIDS). • New half-inch printheads print larger swathes to achieve significant speed gains of up to 11 ppm black, 9 ppm color.
3 (Go) • Places the printer either online or offline. • Allows the printer to r esume printing after being offline. Clears most printer messages and places the printer online. • Allows the printer to continue printing with a warning message such as TRA Y x L OAD [TYPE] [SIZE] or UNEXPECTED P APER SIZE.

5 1. Remo ve the four tapes securing the printer. Open the top cover and remove the fifth tape fr om the inside of the printer. 1. Ensur e that the computer is turned off. 2. Plug the power connector firmly into the printer’s power sock et. 3. Plug the power plug into an electrical outlet.
6 Y ou can set the L CD Panel to display printer messages in one of the following languages: • English • Norwegian • German • Finnish • French • Swedish • Dutch • Danish • Portuguese • Polish • Italian • Czech • Spanish • Russian T o do so: 1.
3 1 7 1. Pr ess the Power button to turn on the printer. 2. Lift to open the Ink Cartridge door. 3. Remove all four ink cartridges fr om their packaging and insert each ink cartridge into its own color-coded slot. Mak e sure that each cartridge is pressed firmly into place.
3 8 1. Mak e sure that the Ink Cartridge Door is open. Gr asp the side of the Printhead Access Cover and lift up firmly to snap the co ver open and completely remo ve it from the printer.
1 5 6 4 9 4. Close the printhead latch. Be sure that the hook on the printhead latch catches the carriage lock. Note: Y ou may have to use some force to close the printhead latch. 5. Ensur e that the Ink Cartridge Door is lifted. Align the tabs of the cover with the tabs on the printer.
9 8 6 7 10 3. Unpack the Paper Length and Width guides. 4. Insert the Paper Length guide into the slot of the paper size you wish to load. 5. Insert the Paper Width guide into the slot of the paper size you wish to load. 6. Insert paper, print side down into the printer.
6 1 11 Note: T r ay 3 is designed to hold up to 250 sheets of paper and can accommodate paper sizes such as Letter, A4, Legal, B4, A3, 11” x 17”, 13” x 19” and 330 x 483 mm.
8 12 7. Re-insert T ray 3 into the printer. 8. If T ray 3 is extended, place the Extended T ray Cover over the tr ay. 9. On the Control Panel, press [Menu] until P APER HANDLING MENU appears. 10. Press [Item] to select TRA Y 3 TYPE= 11. Press [V alue] to select the media type you have loaded into the tray and press [Select].
13 Befor e you can use the printer, you must install the printer softwar e. T o install the printer software, you need at least 8 MB of RAM and Microsoft Windows 3.1x, 95 or 98 installed in your computer. T o install the printer software in Windows NT 4.
T o do this: 1. Download the printer software. During download, you will be ask ed if you wish to customize the printer software. If you choose not to, you may run the Installer Configur ation Utility later by double-clicking on the HPINSCFG.EXE icon in the driver directory of the Starter CD.
1 15 Loading the T rays The HP 2500C/C+/CM Professional Series Color Printer has 3 paper tr ays and one Rear Manual Feed for superior paper handling capabilities. T r ay 1 - This tr ay holds up to 10 sheets of paper. It is recommended that you use this tray for media types and sizes that ar e seldom used.
2 16 Loading Media in the Rear Manual F eed 1. Set your printer software to pick paper fr om Rear Manual Feed and print your document. F or mor e information on how to set your print settings, please refer to the section on Changing Print Settings. 2.
6 7 17 Replacing Printheads If the printheads are f aulty, the printer will show an error message and the printer will stop printing. When this happens, replace the printhead. F or mor e information, r efer to the T r oubleshooting section. 1. Ensur e that the printer is on.
11 12 10 18 10. Close the printhead latch. Be sure that the hook on the printhead latch catches the carriage lock. Y ou may have to use some force to close the printhead latch. 11. Ensure that the Ink Cartridge Door is lifted. Align the tabs of the co ver with the tabs on the printer.
19 Changing Print Settings Select Y our Printer T o use your HP 2500C Series color printer, mak e sure that it is selected as the default printer. In Windows 95, 98 or NT 4.0: 1. Click Start , select Settings followed by Printers . 2. Click the HP 2500C Series Printer icon to select it.
HP ZoomSmart Scaling T echnology Allows you to automatically enlarge or r educe your printout. W atermark Allows you to create light-color ed text that appears “behind” the document’s main text. When you print, the text appears f aintly on the printout lik e the watermarks found on elegant stationery.

1 22 8. When you have finished entering the values press [Select]. 9. The printer will print a confirmation page consisting of 2 squares and a cr oss. 10. Check the confirmation page to see if the lines on the squar es and the cr oss ar e aligned. 11.

11 10 9 8 7. Push in the PostScript 3 Module until the two clips snap into place. 8. Lift the plastic flap, place the metal panel on the Rear Access Door and fasten the scr ews. 9. Reconnect all cables to the back of the printer and power ON the printer.
3 2 1 7 If your printer has the PostScript module installed, you may install up to 64 MB of additional memory. See Supplies and Accessories T o do so: 1. Put on the anti-static wrist str ap and clip the other end to a grounded metal piece. Note: Failur e to do so may damage the printer or the memory module.

27 Contr ol Panel Menus Overview Y ou can perform most routine printing tasks from the computer thr ough the printer driver. This is the most convenient way to change settings on the printer. See the Help files associated with the printer software, or for more information, r efer to the Windows Printing section.

37 2500C/C+/CM HP T r oubleshooting This chapter documents the different tr oubleshooting tools and steps that can be used to assist you in diagnosing and solving most printer pr oblems.
38 Non-Recover able Err or If the L CD panel displays a non-recoverable err or message or if the printer is in a non-recover able error state: 1. T urn off your printer by pressing the Power button. Remove all cables and wait for about 10 seconds. Reconnect the cables and power on the printer.
39 The following is a summary of the troubleshooting tips found in the T oolbox: Printer does not Print • Check the power Mak e sure the power cord is connected firmly to the printer and to a working outlet, and that the printer is turned ON. The green Ready LED should be lit and the L CD should display “READ Y”.
40 • T r ay 3 pulled out during printing. If T ray 3 is pulled out of the printer when it is printing, the job will be canceled and the page will be ejected. Wait until the page has been printed and ejected from the printer before removing the tray.
41 Garbage Printed • Check cable connection Check that the printer and/or network cables ar e securely connected to the printer. If you are using a parallel cable, ensure that it is also firmly connected to the computer. • Check printer setup Mak e sure your HP 2500C Series printer is selected as the curr ent or default printer.
3 3 42 3. If you are unable to free the jammed paper, pull out the handle of the Paper Knob, pull the knob away from the printer and r otate to remove the paper. 4. If the L CD still reports a paper jam, go to the back of the printer and lower the Rear Access Door by lifting the two rear door latches.
43 T o diagnose the faulty printhead: 1. Open the Printhead Access Cover and unlock the printhead latch. 2. Remove the cyan, magenta and yellow printheads and close the Printhead Access Cover. 3. The L CD Panel will display the message "DETECTING.
44 The Diagnostic T est page is a valuable tool for troubleshooting. This will help verify if the printer is working. T o print a Diagnostic T est: 1. Press [Menu] until SELF TEST MENU appears 2. Press [Item] until PRINT DIA GNOSTIC PA GE appears. 3. Press [Select] to print the diagnostic page.
