Load trays Paper orientation for load ing trays If you are us ing p aper that r equires a spe cific o rienta tion, l oad it accord ing to the i nform ation in the followi ng table.
Tray 1 Tray 1 is accesse d from the front o f the printer. The printe r prints from tra y 1 before a ttempting t o print from o ther trays. Media guides ensure that the medi a is correc tly fed int o the pri nter and that the pri nt is not skew ed (cro oked o n the media ).
Tray 2 and op tional Tr ay 3 Media g uides ensu re tha t the m edia f eeds corr ectly into the print er and that t he pri nt is not skewed. Tray 2 has sid e and r ear me dia gu ides. When loa ding m edia, adjust th e medi a guid es to match the length a nd width of the media th at you are us ing.
Manual feed You ca n use manual fe ed whe n pri nting m ixed me dia. For exampl e, you can use manu al feed to pr int an envel ope, the n a letter , then an envelope, a nd so on .

EconoMode This pr oduct has an E conoM ode op tion for printi ng drafts of do cumen ts. Us ing EconoMod e ca n use less toner and decr ease the co st per p age. Ho wever, us ing E conoMod e can also reduce pri nt qualit y. HP does n ot recomm end full -time use of E conoMode.
Quiet mode This pr oduct has a qu iet mo de that redu ces n oise dur ing p rinting. When quiet mod e is turned on , the produc t prints at a slower speed . Your pri nt cartrid ge might not be a genuine HP print cart ridge if you notice the fo llowing: ● You are experie ncing a high number of probl ems with the print cart ridge. ● The cartr idge do es not look li ke it usu ally doe s (for ex ample, the orange pull tab is missing, or the packagin g diff ers from HP packaging ).
Replace su pplies and parts Supply replacem ent guidelines Keep th e foll owing g uidel ines in mind w hen s etting up the pr oduct . ● Sufficien t spac e is r equired above and i n the f ront o f the product for rem oving suppli es. ● The produc t shou ld be locat ed on a flat, s turdy s urface.
3. Reinsert the pr int car tridge i nto the product , and then c lose th e pri nt-car tridge door. If th e print is still l ight, ins tall a new pri nt cartrid ge. Change the print cartridg e When a prin t cartri dge ap proaches the en d of use ful lif e, you are promp ted to orde r a re place ment.
3. Grasp both sid es of the p rint ca rtrid ge and dist ribute the toner by g ently ro cking the pr int car tridg e. CAUTION: Do no t touch th e shut ter or t he sur face of the roller. 4. Bend the tab on the l eft sid e of the ca rtridge un til the ta b breaks l oose.
Inst all mem ory NOT E: Sing le inline memo ry m odules ( SIMM s) used in prev ious HP Las erJet p roduc ts are not compat ible w ith the p roduct. Install product memory This produ ct has one DIMM slot. CAUTION: Stati c electric ity can damage DIMM s.
3. Open the DIMM-a ccess doo r on the left side of the produc t. 4. Remove th e DIMM from the an tistatic package. CAUTION: To reduc e the possibi lity of d amage ca used by sta tic ele ctricity, always wea r an electrostat ic di scharge (ESD) wrist st rap or touch the surf ace of the a ntista tic pack age before handling DIM Ms.
6. Hold the DI MM at a 45-d egree a ngle, and then push the upper c ontacts of th e DIMM firm ly into the slot. Mak e sure that t he loc ks on e ach side o f the D IMM s nap into p lace. CAUTION: Pressin g the DIMM s traight d own wi ll damag e the c ontact p ins.
7. Close the acce ss door , and press f irmly unti l it sna ps in to pl ace. 8. Reconnect the interfac e cables and the power cord. 9. Turn the produc t on. Check DIMM installation After i nstallin g the DIMM, m ake sur e that the i nstallati on wa s su ccessfu l.

Clean the prod uct Clean th e outs ide of the pr inter wi th a cle an, dam p cl oth whe n nece ssary. CAUTION: Do not use ammoni a-based clea ners on or arou nd the printer . During the pr intin g proces s, pa per, toner , and dust particl es can accu mulate i nside the printer.
3. Replace the pr int cartri dge, and clos e the print- cartrid ge door. 4. Reconnec t the power cord, and tu rn the pr oduct on. Clean the paper path During the prin ting p rocess , paper , toner, and du st pa rticles can accumu late i nside t he pr oduct.
Clean the Tray 1 pickup roller If the produc t is hav ing troub le pi cking up paper from T ray 1, foll ow thes e instr ucti ons. 1. Turn the produc t off, d isconnec t the power co rd, an d wait for th e produc t to c ool. – 10 10 20 30 40 50 60 70 80 90 100 0 Celcius °C 2.
4. Press the two black r etain ing tab s outw ard unti l the p ickup r oller i s rele ased fr om it s se at. 5. Remove th e picku p roller f rom the produ ct. 6. Dab a lin t-fre e cloth i n wate r, and scrub the rol ler. NOTE: Do n ot touch t he sur face of the ro ller with b are fi ngers.
8. Allow the pickup roller to d ry comple tely. 9. Line up the b lack ret ain ing tabs in the pr oduct with th e grooves in the pi ckup rol ler, and the n press the pickup ro ller int o the pickup rol ler seat unti l the retai ning tabs click. 10. Close the pi ckup rol ler co ver.
12. Reconnect th e power c ord, and turn the prod uct on . Clean the Tray 2 pickup roller If th e produc t is hav ing trou ble pi ckin g up p aper fro m Tray 2 , f ollow the se i nstruct ions. 1. Turn the p roduct off, d isconnec t the power co rd and w ait for th e produc t to cool .
3. Inside the empty tr ay slot , loca te the pickup rolle r on the top side, ne ar the front of the pr oduct . 4. Dab a lint-free c loth in wate r, and then scrub the rol ler as you rotat e it toward the back of the pro duct. NOTE: Do not to uch the s urface of t he rolle r with bare finge rs.
8. Reconnec t the power cord, and tu rn the pr oduct on. ENWW Clean the pro duct 97.
