Chapter 5 Troubleshooting 59 6. Plug in th e power c ords, and turn on p ower t o the HP Net Server. The f ollowing m essage appears : The configuration has been cleared. Set the Clear Config switch to the OFF position before rebooting. 7. Turn off power to the H P NetSer ver and unplug th e power c ords.

Chapter 5 Troubleshooting 68 1. Make s ure the ca bling is installe d proper ly. Most hub a nd switc h connec tions req uire stra ight-t hrough ca ble; cons ult their docum entation. If you're dir ectl y connecting two com puters ( with no hub or other device), use a “ cross over” cabl e.
Chapter 5 Troubleshooting 69 a. Turn off AC power. b. Disconnect the po wer cords f or 10 m inutes in ord er to reset the power suppl y's circuitr y. c. Turn on AC power aga in. If power is still not gettin g to the s ystem board, replac e the po wer supp ly (or po wer suppl y module on s om e HP NetSer ver m odels).

Verif y that each SCSI d evice is assign ed a uniq ue SCSI ID. 3. If you don't s ee the S CSI BIO S banner during s ystem start: "Symbios , Inc.
Chapter 5 Troubleshooting 72 12. Check that all SCS I devices are con nected to power and power-on all SCSI dev ices befor e or at the sam e tim e as the HP Net Server to ensure a stable SCSI bus. 13. W atch the boot sc reen for al l SCSI devices to be dis played.
Chapter 5 Troubleshooting 73 The SCSI s ubs yste m stops working. If the SC SI subs ystem s hould stop work ing, do the fol lowing: 1. Review the Troubleshooting Checklist and "Mass Storag e Guidel ines" in Chapter 2 befor e y ou continue . 2.

Chapter 5 Troubleshooting 75 13. Check to see if the m onitor connec tor's pins are bent. If the p ins are ben t, slowl y but caref ully straight en them . 14. Connect the monitor cable to the HP Net Server video co nnector and turn on the HP N etServer .
Chapter 5 Troubleshooting 76 4. Turn off AC power to t he HP N etServer, then reb oot to see if the date and t ime was s aved. 5. If date and t im e are still r equested , and the b atter y is good, p erform the next proc edure.
Chapter 5 Troubleshooting 77 d. Restart th e HP NetSer ver to de term ine whether the LEDs now bec ome ill uminated d uring the POST . If not, c ontact your rese ller. 4. If one or b oth LED indicat ors on a single module ar e not i llum inated duri ng the PO ST, the module m a y b e instal led inc orrectl y, or its l ight pipes m a y be damaged.

If you hav e a rack -mounted L H 6000r, t hen cons ider rem oving the cab les from the rear of the enclosure before ex tending the encl osure o n the sl ides (if you don't ha ve a cab le m anagement arm).
