1 The basics To start using your computer , follow these instructions: NOTE: For basic operating instructions, see the printed Setup Instructions poster included in the box with your computer. 1. Connect the com puter to the adapter, an d then connect th e adapter to a powe r outlet.
2 Using Android features The following is a list of b asic Android features. Using the on-screen keyboard and voice search NOTE: To view the on-screen keyboard, you must firs t release the tablet from th e keyboard base. For release instructions, see the printed Setup Instructions poster included in th e box with your computer.
Using Gesture Typing Instead of typing ea ch letter, use Gestu re Typing to inpu t a word without lifting your fin ger. You don't need to worry about spaces b ecause they're added aut omatically for you. Glide your finger over the letters you wan t to type , and lift it afte r each wo rd.
3 Navigating the Home screen The Home screen p rovides a centra l location wh er e you can access information and email, browse the Web, stream videos, view photos, and ac cess social media websites. NOTE: Your computer's Home scree n may look different from the following illustration.
Icon Description (4) Recent apps —Opens a list of apps that you have used r ecently. ● Touch an app to open it. ● To remove an app from the list in portrait mode, swipe it to the left or right. Swipe it up or down when in landscape mode. (5) All apps —Displays a list of all apps.
4 Using apps and widgets NOTE: Google applications such as Gmail , Google N ow , and others may no t be available in certain regions. Apps are shortcuts placed on th e Home screen and used to op en applications tha t are installed on your computer. ● To see all apps, touch All Apps in the favorites tray on any Home screen.
NOTE: When you add a Google account, the email, calenda r, and contacts a ssociated with the account are synchronized automatically. Using Google Now ● Google Now uses time of day, your current locati on, and your location history to displa y information on your commute.
5 Using the cameras Take photos wi th the rear camera, an d take your own photo or take screensho ts with the front camera. Taking a photo with the rear camera 1. To open the came ra app, touch the All Apps icon, and then touch the HP Camera icon. 2. Focus on the su bject, and then to uch the blue circle to take a photo.
Printing photos (basic procedure) 1. Touch the Al l Apps icon, and then touch the Gallery icon. 2. Touch the photo to select it, touc h the Menu icon in the upper-right corn er, and then touch Print . 3. The first time that you use the printing function, follow the on-screen instructions to select a printer.
6 Connecting to networks The following sectio n explains ho w to connect to netwo rks. Connect to a wireless network Browse the Web, rea d your email, or perfo rm other online act ivities. NOTE: You must be connected to a wireless network be fore you can connect to the Internet.
7 Using Settings Use Settings to connect to netw orks, set preferences, and find in formation about yo ur computer. ▲ To access Settings, touch the All apps icon, and then touch Settings . –or– Swipe from the upp er right corner, and th en touch the Settings icon.
◦ Language and input —Set preferen ces for LANGUAGE , KEYBOARD & INPUT METHODS , PHYSICAL KEYBOARD , SPEECH , and MOUSE/TRACKPAD . ◦ Backup and reset —Set preferen ces for BACKUP & RESTORE and perform a f actory data reset. NOTE: Factory data reset is availa ble in PERSONAL DATA .
8 Securing your computer To prevent ot hers from ac cessing the da ta on your computer, select a screen lock method. Fo r increased security, consider encryp ting the data on your computer. Set a screen lock 1. To access Settings, touch the All apps icon, and then touch Settings .
5. Enter your lock screen PI N/password and touch Continue . 6. Touch Encrypt tablet ag ain. Progress is displayed during e ncryption. When the encryption is complete , you must enter your PIN/password. Yo u must also enter your PIN/ password each time you turn on the computer.
9 Backing up and recovering your data You can backup and recover your data u sing the following meth ods. Updating apps, widgets, and the operating system HP recommends that you reg ularly update your apps, widge ts, and the ope rating system on a reg ular basis to the latest ve rsions.
Starting up using the recovery menu If your computer is unable to boot into the oper ating system, you can perform a system recov ery by directly accessing the Recover y menu. 1. Turn off your computer and pl ug in the AC adapte r. 2. To boot into th e Recovery menu, press and hold the volume down key an d then press the power key.
10 Using storage Accessing tablet storage using a USB cable (select models only) To access onboard storage u sing a USB cable: 1. Turn on your computer, and then undock the tab let from the keyboard base . 2. Connect the USB ca ble to your tablet, a nd then to your host compu ter.
