5. Select the appropriate options for your prin t job by using th e features availa ble in the Advanced , Printing Shortcuts , Features , and Color tabs. TIP: You can easily sel ect the appropri ate options for your print job by choosi ng one of the predefi ned print tasks on the Printing Shortcuts tab.

4. Slide the paper-wid th guide firmly agai nst the edge of t he transparencies. 5. Open the Printer Properties dialog box. 6. Click the Printing Shortcuts tab.

View the print resolution The printer software displ ays the print resolution in dots p er inch (dpi). The dpi varies according to the paper typ e and print quality th at you select in the print er software. To view the print r esolution 1. On the File menu in your software app lication, click Print .
6. Change the p rint settings to those you wa nt in the new pri nting shor tcut. 7. Click Save as and type a name for the new print ing shortcut, and then click Save . The printin g shortcut is added to t he list. To delete a printi ng shortcut 1. On the File menu in your softwa re application, cl ick Print .
4 Paper basics You can load many diff erent types and sizes of p aper in the HP Printer, including let ter or A4 paper, p hoto paper, transpa rencies, and envel opes.

Order ink supplies For a list of cartri dge numbers, use t he software t hat came wit h the HP Print er to find o ut the reorder number. Find the cartridg e number 1. In the HP So lution Cen ter, click Settings , point to Print Settings , and then click Printer Toolbo x .
Automatically clean print cartridges If your printed pages are fa ded or if they conta in ink streaks, the pri nt cartridges might be low on ink or might need t o be cleaned. For more information, see Check the est imated ink levels . If the print cart ridges are not low o n ink, clean the print cartridges automatica lly.
5. Dip a clean foam rubber swab or lint-f ree cloth into distill ed water, and squeeze any excess water from i t. 6. Hold the print cartri dge by its sides. 7. Clean only the copp er-colored contacts. Allow the pri nt cartridges to dr y for approximately t en minute s.
Replace the cartridges To replace the cartri dges 1. Check that po wer is on. 2. Remove cartridge. a . Open cartri dge door. Wait for print carriage to move to center of the product . b . Press down to release cart ridge, then remove i t from slot. 3.
b . Remove plastic tape using pink pull t ab. c . Line up colored shaped icons, then slide ca rtridge into slot unt il it clicks into place. d . Close cartridge door.
Use ink-backup mode Use the ink-backup mode to operate the HP Printer with only one print ca rtridge. The ink- backup mode is initi ated when a prin t cartridge is removed from the print cartridge carriage. During ink-backu p mode, the product can on ly print jobs from the computer.

Placing a call Call HP support while yo u are in front of the co mputer and the pr oduct. Be prepared to provide the following informat ion: • Product name (HP Deskje t D1600 Printer series) • Ser.

6. Insert the product CD-RO M into your computer’s C D-ROM drive and then st art the Setup program. NOTE: If the Setup program d oes not appear, locate t he setup.exe file on th e CD-ROM drive an d double-click it . HP recommends tha t you use genuine H P ink cartridges. Genuine HP in k cartridges are designed and teste d with HP printers to he lp you easily produce g reat results, time after time. NOTE: HP cannot guaran tee the qualit y or reliability of non-HP supplies.
Step 2: Load the stack of p aper correctly Solution: Remove the stack of p aper from the paper tray, reload the paper, and then slide t he paper-width guid e inward until i t stops at the edge of the paper. Check printer se ttings Try the follow ing soluti ons. • Step 1: Check the print settings • Step 2: Veri fy the paper si ze setting • Step 3: Check the print er margins Step 1: Check the prin t settings Solution: Check the print settings. • Check the pri nt settings to see if the color setti ngs are in correct.
Make sure the margin setti ngs for the document do not e xceed the printable area of the product. To check your m argin settings 1. Preview your prin t job before sendin g it to the p roduct. In most software a pplications, click the Fil e menu, and th en click Print Preview .
Flashing lights The lights on the prod uct flash in special seq uences to inform you a bout various er ror conditions. Ref er to the followin g table for informa tion on solving your error condition based on which light s are on or flashing on the product.
