Buttons on the Home screen The Home sc reen provides acces s to the product featur es, and it indicates the pr oduct status. NOT E: Depending on the produ ct config uration, t he features o n the Home s creen can var y. The layo ut might also be revers ed for some lan guages .

Follow the on- screen prompts and select the appropriate response for each question.

If you turn this feature on, the product prompts you to enter the number and then it automatically includes that number every time you send a fax.

Install soft ware for Ma c computers on a wired network Configure the IP address 1. Connect the network cabl e to the p roduct and to the network . 2. Wait for 60 seconds before co ntinuing. Dur ing this ti me, the ne twork recogni zes the product a nd assigns an IP addr ess or host name for the produc t.
Install software for Mac computers on a wirele ss network Before installi ng the prod uct softwa re, make s ure the pro duct is not connected t o the netwo rk using a netw ork c able.

Software for Mac comput ers HP Utility for Mac Use the HP Utility to set up product fea tures that a re not avai lable in the printer dri ver. You ca n use the HP Utility wh en the produc t uses a un iversal ser ial bus (US B) cable or i s connected to a TCP/ IP-b ased netwo rk.
Print with Mac Cancel a print job with Mac 1. If the print j ob is curren tly printing, canc el it by pressing the Ca ncel bu tton on the pr oduct contr ol panel. NOTE: Pressing th e Cancel button c lears the job that th e product i s current ly processi ng.
Create a prin ting preset 1. On the File menu , click the Print option. 2. Select t he driver . 3. Select the p rint settings that you want to save for reuse . 4. In the Pre sets menu, c lick the Save As ... opt ion , and type a n ame for the pres et.
Print multip le pages on o ne sheet of pape r with Mac 1. On the File menu, cl ick the Prin t option. 2. Select the driver. 3. Open the Layout menu. 4. From the Pag es per Sheet menu , select the number of pages that you want to pr int on each sheet (1, 2, 4, 6, 9, or 16 ).
4. Open the Advanced m enu, or selec t the appropr iate tab. 5. Adjust the indi vidual set tings for text, graphi cs, and photogr aphs. Use the Services menu with Mac If the product is c onnected to a network, use the Se rvices menu to obtai n product and supply -status inform ation.
Fax with Mac To send a fax by prin ting to a fax driver, compl ete the follo wing steps: 1. Open the d ocument t hat you want to fax. 2. Click File and then click Pr int . 3. In the Printer pop-up menu, s elect the fax print queu e that yo u want to use.
Scan wit h Mac Use the H P Scan softwar e to scan ima ges to a Mac computer. 1. Load the d ocument o nto the scan ner glass or into the document feeder. 2. Open the Applications folder, and the n click Hewl ett-Packar d . Double- click HP Scan . 3. Open the HP Scan menu and click Preferen ces .

Connect with USB This pro duct supports a USB 2.0 conne ction. Use an A-to-B type US B cable. HP recom mends using a cable t hat is no longer than 2 m (6. 5 ft). CAUTION: Do no t connect the USB ca ble until th e install ation softwar e prompts you to c onnect it.
Connect to a network Supported network protocols To conn ect a networking- equipped product to a netw ork, you need a network that use s one or more of the followi ng protocols.

Connect the product to a wireless network us ing WPS If your wi reless router su pports Wi-Fi Prote cted Setup (WPS), thi s is the simp lest way to s et up the prod uct on a wirel ess ne twor k. 1. From the H ome screen, to uch the Wirel ess b utton. 2.

Advanc ed wireless setup Wirel ess communicati on modes You ca n use on e of two wi reless c ommunicatio n modes: infrastru cture or ad-hoc. Infra struc ture wi reless network (recommended) The product communicates with other devices on the network thro ugh a wireless router.

Load the doc ument fe eder The do cument fee der holds up to 35 she ets of 60 -90 g/m 2 (16 to 20 lb bond) paper. NOT E: When you add new paper, make sure that you remov e all of the paper from the input tray and strai ghten the stack of new paper. Do not fan the pape r.
Configure the tray Configur ing the tray on th is product ch anges the heat and s peed settings to obta in the best print qual ity for the t ype of pa per that you are using . If you a re using s pecial pape r for all or most print jobs on the product, cha nge this default setting on the product.

Cancel a pr int job 1. If the print jo b is current ly printing, ca ncel it by pre ssing the Cancel button on the product control panel. NOTE: Pressing th e Cancel button c lears the j ob that th e product is currently processing.
Basic print tasks with Windows The m ethods to ope n the pri nt dialog fr om software programs can vary. T he proced ures that follow includ e a typical method. Som e softwar e programs d o not hav e a File menu. Se e the doc umentation for your softwa re program t o learn how to ope n the print dialog.
Change th e number o f print copies with Wind ows 1. On the File menu in the so ftware program, cli ck Pr int . 2. Select th e product, a nd then sel ect the nu mber of co pies. Save custom print settings for reuse with Windows Use a printing shortcut with Windows 1.
3. Click t he Printin g Shortcuts tab. 4. Select one of the s hortcuts, a nd then click th e OK button. NOT E: When yo u select a shortcut, th e corresp onding settings change on the other tabs in the pri nter driv er. Create printing shortcuts 1. On the Fil e men u in th e sof twar e pr ogram , clic k Print .
2. Select the prod uct, and t hen clic k the Properties or Prefer ences butto n. 3. Click the Printing Shor tcuts tab. 4. Select an ex isting shortcut as a base. NOTE: Always select a short cut befo re adjusti ng any of th e settings on the right si de of the sc reen.
5. Select the print o ptions fo r the new s hortcut. NOT E: You can select the print options on this tab or on any other tab in the printe r driver. After selectin g options on other tabs, return to the Printing Shortc uts tab befo re continu ing with the next step .

4. In the Specia l pages area, click th e Pri nt pages on d ifferent paper option, and t hen click t he Settings button. 5. In the Pages in document ar ea, se lect ei ther the First or Last option. 6. Select the correct options fro m the Pa per sou rce and Pape r type drop-do wn list s.
7. If you are p rint ing both the first and l ast pages on diffe rent pape r, repea t steps 5 an d 6, select ing the op tions for th e other page. 8. Click the OK button. Scale a document to fit p age size 1. On the Fil e menu in th e software prog ram, click Print .
2. Select the produc t, and then click th e Properties or Prefer ences button. 3. Click t he Effe cts tab. 4. Sele ct the Print doc ument on option, and then selec t a size from the dr op-down list.
Add a watermark to a document with Windows 1. On the File menu in the so ftware program, cli ck Pr int . 2. Select the p roduct, and then click the Properties or P reference s button. 3. Click the Effects tab. 4. Select a waterm ark from the Wa termarks drop -dow n list.
3. Click t he Finishing tab. 4. Select the Print on both sides check b ox. 5. In the Booklet layout drop-d own li st, cl ick the Left binding or Right binding option.

Walk-up USB prin ting This pr oduct f eatures print ing from a USB fl ash drive, so you can quickly print file s without sending them from a computer. The product a ccepts stan dard USB s torage acces sories in the USB por t on the front of the p roduct.

5. Click the Print in G rayscale option to print a color doc ument in black and shades of gray . Use this option to print co lor docume nts for photocopying or faxing . You can al so use thi s option to print draft copie s or to save colo r toner. 6. Click the OK but ton.

8. Insert the new pr int cartridg e into th e product. 9. Pull the tab on the l eft side of the p rint cartri dge straig ht up to com pletely rem ove the sealing tape.
11. Close the front doo r. 12. Place the old print car tridge and the ora nge plasti c shield i n the box for the new pr int cartridg e. Follow the recyc ling instructio ns that are in cluded i n the box.
Clean the prod uct Clean the paper path During the prin ting process, paper, t oner, and du st particl es can ac cumulate i nside the product.
