EN Loading media 5 Overview Section Loading media Media specifications The f ollowing types and siz es of media can be used in the HP Color LaserJet 8550MFP system.
6 Loading media EN Media weight • T ra y 1: 60 to 216 g/m 2 (16 to 58 lb) • Other input tra ys: 60 to 105 g/m 2 (16 to 28 lb) F or complete inf ormation on media specifications for this product, see the HP Color LaserJet 8550, 8550N, 8550DN, 8550GN, 8550MFP Printer User Guide on CD-ROM.
EN Loading media 7 Overview Loading the input tra ys T o load the input tra ys , first adjust the media-width guides and then load the media. When you ha ve finished loading the media, configure the input tra y in the printer unit control panel.
8 Loading media EN Loading media into T ray 1 (the m ultipurpose or stac k bypass tra y) 1 Open T ra y 1. (Use the tra y extension if the media is longer than the tra y .
EN Loading media 9 Overview Note Filling the tra y abo v e the media-fill mark may cause paper jams . The def ault mode f or T ra y 1 is Cassette . When T ra y 1 is in Cassette mode, the printer unit will pull media from this tra y if the appropriate media is found.
10 Loading media EN 3 Load media up to the media-fill marks. Fiv e hundred sheets of 75 g/m 2 (20 lb) bond media will fit into either tra y . Note Filling the tra y abo v e the media-fill mark may cause paper jams . 4 Push the tra y into the printer unit.

An aster isk ( * ) appears to the right of the selection. 8 Repeat steps 2 through 4 to configure media type in all tra ys .

16 Media jams EN T o clear jams fr om the lower right door 1 Open the low er right door . If y ou are using the optional 1,000-sheet side input tra y , it must first be mov ed awa y from the printer unit.
EN Media jams 17 Overview T o cl ear jams in T rays 2 and 3 1 Make sure there is no media jammed in the lo wer right door . 2 Open T ra y 2 or T ra y 3. 3 Remov e any jammed media. Y ou might hav e to remo ve the tra y b y lifting it slightly and pulling it out.

EN Media jams 21 Overview 5 Remov e an y jammed media from the duple x er b y lifting the green guide . Remov e an y media and low er the green guide. 6 On the left side of the fuser , pull down on the green tab , carefully remov e an y media, and release the tab .
22 Media jams EN T o clear jams fr om the transfer drum and registration area 1 Open the front door , press the white button on the low er green le v er , and s wing the le v er to the right. 2 Open the upper right door . 3 Using the handles, gently pull out the tr ansf er drum from the right side until it stops.
EN Media jams 23 Overview 7 In the front of the printer unit, tur n the blue knob counterclockwise to f eed the jammed media into the printer unit. 8 F rom the front of the pr inter unit, remov e the jammed media. 9 On the right side, align the arrows on the ends of the transf er drum with the matching arrows on the trac ks inside the printer unit.
24 Media jams EN Note If the upper right door does not close, the transf er drum might not be all the wa y in the pr inter unit. Repeat steps 9 and 10. 12 In the front of the printer unit, swing the lo w er (green) le ver back to the left, making sure it clic ks into place .

32 Job retention features EN Stored job feature The user can download a print job to the printer unit’ s hard disk without printing it. The user can then pr int the job at any time through the printer unit control panel.
EN Job retention features 33 Printing Priv ate job feature The private printing feature lets a user specify that a job is not printed until that user releases it using a four-digit personal identification number (PIN) through the printer unit control panel.
34 Job retention features EN Quic k copy jobs The quick cop y feature prints the requested number of copies of a job and temporarily stores the job on the printer unit’ s hard disk. Additional copies of the job can be printed using the printer unit control panel.

EN Making copies 45 Copying How to make simple copies Making copies on the glass Y ou can place individual pages or books directly on the glass to make copies . K eep in mind that if you place the media on the glass horizontally , y ou must load “rotated” media in T ra y 1 (the multipurpose tray or stac k bypass).
46 Making copies EN Making copies with the optional ADF When you place se veral originals in the optional ADF and press S TAR T , they are automatically f ed to the glass f or cop ying. Doub le-sided originals are automatically flipped inside the optional ADF to make copies of both sides .
