6 learn ing about pr in ter features buttons and lights The printer butto ns are used to turn the printer on and off or to re sume printing. The lights give you visua l cues about the status of the printer.

45 aut omaticall y cleaning pr int c artridge s If your printed pages ar e missing lines or dots, o r they contain ink str eaks, the print cartrid ges may need to be clean ed. Print cartridges are c leaned automatically using the following proce dure: 1.
46 manua lly cle aning pr int cartri dges a nd the print cradle If the printer is used in a dusty envir onment, a sma ll amount of debris may accumula te inside the case. This debris ca n includ e dust, hair, carpet, or clot hing f ibers. When it ge ts on the p rint cartridges and cradle, it can c ause ink streaks a nd smudges on printed pages.

50 cleaning the pr inte r case The printer ejects ink onto paper in a fine mist, an d small amounts of ink may be depos ited on the pri nter case over time. Fol low these guidelines when cleaning the outside of the printer: • U se a soft damp cl oth to remo ve dust , smudges , stains, and spilled ink fr om the pr inter case exter ior .
