HP ProLiant D L580 G7server technology Technology brief Introduction ..................... ..................... ....................... ..................... ....................... ..................... ....... 2 Environments for the DL580 G7.......
Introduction The seventh generation H P ProLiant DL580 Server series stands out as a major ad vancement over earlier generations of fo ur-socket servers.
The DL580 G7 uses H P’s leading “Sea of Sensors” tec hnology to track and ma nage the temperature and hea lth of both indivi dual sub systems and field-replaceab le units (FRU). A t a red uced level of power and no ise, a set of four redundant (3+1) fans run effici entl y and co ol the DL580 G7 rel iably.
better performanc e of multithreaded app lications and more resources for virtual machin es. The Intel® Xeon® Processor 7500 series suppo rt up to 8 cores (16 hyperthreads) per p rocessor. Memory— With the s upport for a new Memory C artridge and 32 GB DDR3 DIMM, the DL580 G7 support s 2TB of memory capacity.

multithreaded ap plications and provides mo re resources for virtual machines. The Xeon 7500 s eries processor supports up t o eight cores (16 hyperthreads) per processor. The Int el 7500 ch ipset Up to 2.0TB (32 GB DDR3 DIMM s) with a new (E7) Memory Cartridge Five PC Ie 2.

Memory Subsystem A rchitecture The HP ProLian t D L580 G7 provides a 2TB memory foo tprint and supports up to 64 DDR3 RDIMMs . Each of the server’s four processors receiv es 16 RDIMM sockets in two easily serviceab le memory cartridges. The DL 580 G7 supports 2, 4, 8, 16, and 32GB RDIM Ms.
Figure 3: Hemisphe re vs. Non-Hemispher e populations.
The above No n-Hemisphere Example 5 and E xample 6 illustrate: Each memory c ontroller must have a memo ry cartridge DIMM con figurations of each memory c artridge connected to con troll er 1 and 2 of a p rocessor must be identical. Note that “Example 4” i s a Hemisphere co nfiguration.
Populate each DD R3 channel i n each memory cartridg e. To achieve this, the minimum DIMM count per c artridge is four DIMMs installed in DIMM pair locations A and B. This is t he second largest contrib utor to performance. Use dual-rank D IMMs for significantly better perform ance than that o f single-rank DIMMs.
When the system enab les online sparing, the first ra nked DIM M pair of 1A/8A are set aside as the spar ing ranks, reducing availab le memory. If a DIM M rank on either of the SMI buses exce eds its correctab l e ECC thresho ld, the contents of the f ailing DIMM ranks go to the spa re DIMM ranks.

I/O technologies The DL580 G7 supports up t o eleven I/O full length, ful l height expansion slots w ith the available option card s installed. The standard confi guration includes five slots, 2 P CIe x8 2.0 and 3 PCIe x4 2.0. Tw o optional cards are available: Option No.

key for RAID 6 and 6 +0. The SA-P410i s upports up to eight drives and up to 4.8 TB of stor age (8 x 600 GB HDD). It also support s tape storage. On the SA-P410i, a f l ash-backed wri te cache (FBWC) module comes st andard with either 512 MB or1 G B, depending on the m odel.
Serial Attached SCSI Serial A ttached SCSI (SA S) leverages a co mmon electrical and physica l connectio n interface w ith Serial A TA (SATA). It suppor ts logical SCSI compatibi lity al ong wi th SCSI reliability, performance and m anageability. SAS provides i nvestment protection in c ompatible SCSI software and middleware.
Jumbo Frames Jumbo frames (also know n as ext ended frames) permit a 9 K by te transmissio n unit (MTU), which is six tim es the s ize of a standard 15 00- byte Eth ernet frame. The N C375i supports jumbo frames to achieve higher throughput and better CPU utilization.
port wit h the server OS traffic, both t he iLO processor and the server N IC have their own Media Acc ess Control (MAC) address, wh ich gives iLO and the server separate Inter net Protocol (IP) addresses.
