EN Chapter 3 67 Suppor ted media weights and sizes F or optimum results , use conv entional 75 g/m 2 (20 lb ) photocop y paper . V erify that the paper is of good quality and is fr ee of cuts, nic k s , tears, spots , loose particles, dust, wrinkles, curls , or bent edges .
68 Common print ing task s EN *Trays 2 and 3 use “ Custom ” size specifically for B5 ISO. Trays 2 and 3 do not support the range of custom sizes available in Tray 1.

EN Chapter 3 71 Colored paper Colored paper should be of th e same high quality as white x erographic pa per . Pigments used must be ab le to withstand the printe r ’ s fusing temperature of 1 90 ° C (374 ° F) f or 0.1 se cond wit hout deterioration.

Y ou can select them b y media size and t yp e through y our software application or the printer driv er . Note T ray 2 has an int ernal media-size sensor and do es not need to be configured on the printer contr ol panel f or media siz e.

The tra y adjusts f or Letter , Legal, A4, A5, JIS B5, Custom (B5 ISO), and Executiv e paper . EN Chapter 3 85 The f ollowing are f eatures of the 500-sheet pap er feeder (T ra y 3): The tra y has a capacity of 5 00 sheets of standard paper . (See “ Suppor ted media weights and siz es ” on pa ge 67 .) It is adjustab le for specif ic media sizes , with corresponding stop positions.

EN Chapter 3 89 Using the optional duplex printing accessory f or tw o-sided printing The optional duple x printing accessor y ( figure 3-3 ), enab les you to print on both sides of a page. In tw o-sided printing, known as duple x printing or duple xing, the back side of the page is printed first.
90 Common print ing task s EN T o use the optional duplex printing accessory: Be sure that the optio nal duple x pr inti ng accessory is installed correctly . If the 500-sh ee t paper feed er (T ray 3) is installed, the duple x unit must be positioned between the printer and T ra y 3.
EN Chapter 3 91 Contr ol panel settings for duple x printing Many soft ware ap plications allow y ou to change duple x pr inting settings . If your softw ar e application or pr inte r driver does not allo w yo u to adjust duple x printing settings , yo u can adjust these sett ings through the contr ol pa nel.
92 Common print ing task s EN Options f or binding duplex printing jobs Bef ore pr inting in duple x mode, decide on which edge you will be binding y our finished document. The binding setu p options are: Long-edge ( book) binding , which is the con ventional lay out used in book binding.
EN Chapter 3 93 Special printing situations Use these guidelines when printing on sp ecial types of media. Printing a different fir st page Use the f ollo wing pro cedure to print the first page of a document on a diff erent media typ e than the rest of the docum ent.

96 Common print ing task s EN Deleting a stored quick copy job When a user sends a quic k copy job , the pr inte r ov erwrites any pre vious jobs with the same user and job n ame.
EN Chapter 3 97 Pr oofing and holding a job The proof and hold fe ature pro vides a quick and ea sy wa y to print and proof one cop y of a job and then print the additi onal copies . T o per manently store the job and pre vent the printer fr om deleting it when space is needed f or something else , select the Stored Job option in the driver .
98 Common print ing task s EN Deleting a held job When a user sends a proo f and hold job , the printer automatica lly deletes that user ’ s previous st ored pr oof and hold job .
EN Chapter 3 99 Printing a priv ate job The pr iv ate printing f eature le ts a user specify th at a job is not pr inted until that us er releases it usin g a 4-digit person al identification number (PI N) through the printer control panel. Th e user specifies the PIN in the driv er and it is sent to the printer as part of the print job .
100 Common printing tasks EN Deleting a private job A private job is au tomatically deleted fr om the printe r ’ s hard disk after the user releases it for printing, unless t he user selects the Stored Job option in the driver .
EN Chapter 3 101 Storing a print job The user can do wnload a pr int jo b to the printer ’ s hard disk without printing it. The user can th en print the job at any ti me through the printe r control panel.
102 Common printing tasks EN Deleting a stored job Jobs stored on the printer ’ s hard disk can be deleted from the con tr ol panel. 1 Press M ENU r epeatedly until PRIVATE/STO RED JOBS MENU appears . 2 Press I TEM until the desired user name appears.

Y ou hav e up t o 40 seconds to correct the interrup tion and continue the job . If the connection is resumed within this tim e , the status indicator lights up again.

106 Using color EN Matching color s The process of matching printer out put color to your monit or is quite comple x because pr inters and comput er monitors use diff erent methods of pr oducing color .
