2 – Control Panel EN T o Chang e a Contr ol Panel Setting 1 Press [Menu] until the desired menu appears . 2 Press [Item] until the desired item appears. 3 Press [– V alue +] until the desired setting appears . 4 Press [Select] to sav e the selection.
EN Control Panel – 3 Using the Printer Online Help System This printer features an online help system on the control panel that provides instructions f or resolving most printer errors. Cer tain control panel error messages alternate with instr uctions on accessing the online help system.
4 – Control Panel EN T o Check the Printer’ s Configuration F rom the printer , you can print the f ollo wing inf ormation pages, which giv e details about the printer and its configuration: • Menu Map • Configuration P age • PCL or PS F ont List T o Print a Menu Map: 1 Press [Menu] until INFORMATION MENU appears .

See your network adminstrator . ENV FEEDER LOAD [TYPE] [SIZ E] Load the requested env elope type and size into the env elope feeder .
6 – Control Panel EN TRAY X LOAD [TYPE] [SIZ E] Load the requested paper into the specified tra y ( x ). (See the sections on loading paper .) Make sure that the tra ys are correctly adjusted for siz e.The tra y type settings (and size f or T ray 1) must be set from the pr inter’ s control panel.
EN Control Panel – 7 41.3 UNEXPECTED PAPER SIZE The paper size you are trying to print is not the same as the control panel setting. Reload the tra y with the correct paper size. Make sure that the control panel setting is correctly adjusted for siz e.

EN Paper Jams – 23 Solving Repeated P aper Jams If paper jams occur frequently , try the following: • Check all the paper jam locations . A piece of paper might be stuck some where in the printer .

28 – Output Quality Problems EN Continue Printing When T oner Is Low Caution T o pre vent damage to the toner car tridge, do not e xpose it to light f or more than a f ew minutes. Note After reinser ting the toner car tridge, the message NEW TONER CARTRIDGE = NO displa ys fo r 30 seconds.
EN Output Quality Problems – 29 Checking the T oner Level The user can find out how much toner is left in the printer car tr idge by pr inting a configuration page . The T oner Le vel section on the configur ation page provides a graphical representation of ho w much toner is left in the car tridge.
30 – Output Quality Problems EN Resetting the HP T onerGaug e After a new toner cartr idge is installed, the user must reset the HP T onerGauge from the control panel. When the top cov er is closed after installing the new toner car tridge, the NEW TONER CARTRIDGE=NO message is displa yed on the control panel f or appro ximately 30 seconds.
EN Output Quality Problems – 31 Resetting the Printer Y ou can reset the printer by selecting the reset items in the Resets Menu. Use this menu with caution. Y ou can lose buff ered page data or printer configuration settings when you select these items.
