2-6 4 Turn on th e printer and install the fou r ink cartridges. The printheads and the ink cartridges are not installed in th e same sequence. Follow th e colored arrows to properly install th e ink cartridges. Press firmly on the cartridge to ensu re proper contact after inst allation.

If you wish to remove Tray 1 to load th e paper, first lift up the output tray (do not remove the ou tput tray).

5-1 paper handling Selecting and Loading Paper The printer prints on plain paper an d most other types of paper. Most plain paper used for photocopy ing yields good results. • Always use paper that conforms to th e printer specifications. For a list of supported media, see page 9-1.
5-2 Printing on Legal Paper in Tray 1 o r Tray 2 1. Lift up the output tray. 2. To print on paper f rom 11" (279 mm) in length up to 14" (356 mm) unl atch the fron t of the tray and open it. 3. Insert the paper and adjust th e paper width and length gu ides to fit snug against the stack.

5-4 Printing Paper in Tray 2 (Optio nal Tray) Tray 2 is an optional paper tray designed to prin t only on plain paper. 1. Open Tray 2 by grasping the handle un der the front of th e tray and pulling the tray toward you. (The tray can be completely removed.

6-1 LCD messages The most convenient way to change settings on the printer is from your computer through the printer driver. You can also change the printer settin gs from the printer’s Control Panel. The followin g tables list the menu items and possible values for the printer.

6-6 Message E xplanation Solution REPLACE [COLOR] PRINTHEAD The printe r detects a faulty ink pri nthead. Reinstall the faulty i nk printhead and try to pri nt. Make sure the shipping tape has b een remo ved. If the error persists, re move the printhead and use a dry, li nt- free, soft cloth to ge ntly clean any ink off the c ontact pads.

7-4 Aligning the Print heads The printheads are automatically aligned u pon installation. If your printouts look like the printheads are misaligned, you can align them through the control pan el. 1. Press the Menu button u ntil MAINTENANCE MENU appears.
7-5 3. If the Printhead Cradle is blockin g the paper path, gently pu sh it to the side. 4. Free any wrinkled paper an d pull the sheet of paper towards y ou through the fron t of the printer. Note: Do not re move jammed paper throug h the Top Cover. If you cannot ac cess the jammed pape r, proceed to Ste p 6.
