4500 Thermostat Installation Instructions 3-2 While installation of the 4500 is possible w ithout the se rvices of a HVAC contractor, some installers will prefe r to have an HVAC contracto r connect the 4500 to the HVAC sy stem and test its op eration.
Section 3. Installing the 4500 Thermostat 3-3 Sometimes , R and Rc are jumpered t ogether at the premi ses t hermostat and are connected to the HVAC system with a single common wire. This is the case if both heating and air conditioning are controlled by the same contro l system .

Us ing the jumper provided, you can select whether or not the sys tem’s fan s hould turn on wit h cooling and heating, or t urn on only with cool ing.
