6 Modif ica tions Accessories & Modif ications Scoote r Safety Do not add any electrical equipment that will exceed the scooter’s electrical system capacity (page ). A blown f use can cause a loss of lights or engine power (page ). Do not pull a trailer or s idecar with your scooter.

The RESET button is used to res et (zero) the tripmeter. To reset the tripmeter, press and hold the button f or 2 3 seconds (page ).

35 Bef o re Riding Bef ore R iding Bef ore each ride, you need to make sure you and your Honda are both ready to ride. To help get you prepared, this section discusses how to evaluate your riding readiness, what items you should check on your scooter, and adjustments to make f or your comf ort, convenience, or saf ety.
36 Protective A pparel Are You Ready to Rid e? Bef ore R iding Read this owner’s manual. Make sure you understand all the saf ety messages. Know how to operate all the controls.
Not wearing a helmet increases the chance o f serious inj ury or death in a crash. Be sure you and your passenger always wear a helmet, eye protection, and other protective apparel when you ride.
38 Rider Training Are You Ready to Rid e? Bef ore R iding Riding T ips We urge all riders to take a certif ied course approved by the Motorcycle Saf ety Foundation (MSF). New riders should start with the bas ic course, and even experienced riders will f ind the advanced course benef icial.
39 Are You Ready to Rid e? Bef ore R iding ALWAYS wear a helmet. You should also wear a f ace shield or goggles. Wear bright or ref lective clothing. Wear gloves. Clothes should be close-f itting. Boots should be close-f itting, have low heels and of f er ankle protection.
Improperly maintaining this scooter or failing to co rrect a problem before ridi ng can cause a crash in which you can be seriously hurt or killed. Always perform a pre-ride inspection before every ride and correct any problems.
41 Is Your Scooter Ready to Rid e? Bef ore R iding Leaks, Loose Parts Lights Load Limit s Cargo Adj ustments Walk around your scooter and look f or anything that appears unusual, such as a leak or loose cable. Make sure the headlight, brakelight, taillight, and turn signals are working properly.
42 Is Your Scooter Ready to Rid e? Bef ore R iding Periodic M aintenance T hrottl e Brakes Indi cato rs If you haven’t ridden the scooter in over a week, you should also check other items, such as the oil level and other f luids. See (page ). Periodic maintenance should also be done at least once a month, no matter how of ten you ride.

46 Load Limits & Guidelines Bef ore R iding Follow these guidelines whenever you carry a passenger or cargo: Check that both tires are p roperly inf lated, and that pressure in the rear tire is increased to suit the load (page ). If you change your normal load, you may need to adjus t the rear s uspension (page ).

(1) (1) trunk light 52 Trunk Light Comf ort & Convenience Bef ore R iding The trunk light ( ) turns ON automatically when the seat is opened. It remains ON as long as the seat is opened regardless of the position of the ignition switch.

55 Preparat ion Starting & Stopping the Eng ine Basic Oper ation & Riding Always f ollow the proper starting procedure described below. For your saf ety, avoid starting or operating the engine in an enclosed area such as a garage.
Contact with the spinning rear wheel can cause you to be hurt. Set the parking brake when the scooter is on its center stand. 56 Starting Procedur e Starting & Stopping the Eng ine Basic Oper ation & Riding Lock the rear wheel by squeezing the rear brake lever ( ) and setting the parking brake lever ( ).

60 How to Stop the Engine Starting & Stopping the Eng ine Basic Oper ation & Riding Normal Engine Stop The engine stop switch should normally remain in the RUN position even w hen the engine is OFF. Emergency Engine Stop To stop the engine in an emergency, use the engine stop switch.

67 Riding Basic Oper ation & Riding When riding in wet or rainy conditions or loose surf aces, the ability to maneuver and stop is reduced. F or your saf ety: Exercise extreme caution when braking, accelerating, or turning. Ride at slower speeds and allow f or extra stopping distance.
FSC600A only: FSC600D only: 68 Braking Basic Oper ation & Riding Applying the brakes too hard may cause the wheels to lock and slide, reducing control of your scooter. If this happens, release the brake controls, steer straight ahead until you regain control, then reapply the brakes more gently.
69 Braking Basic Oper ation & Riding Your ability to brake in a turn and to brake hard in an emergency s ituation are important riding skills. We s uggest attending a Motorcycle Saf ety Foundation experienced rider training course (page ) to retain these s kills.
− FSC600A only: 70 Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) Braking Basic Oper ation & Riding This model is also equipped with an Anti- lock Brake System (ABS) designed to help prevent wheel lock up during hard braking on uneven or other poor surf aces while running straight.
FSC600A only: 71 ABS Indicator Light Braking Basic Oper ation & Riding Normally, this light comes on when the ignition is turned ON, and goes of f af ter you ride the scooter at speed above 6 mph (10 km/h). If there is an ABS problem, the indicator light comes on and remains on.
USE CENTER STAND 72 Parking Basic Oper ation & Riding Cata lyti c Converter Look f or a level parking area. If you can’t park on a paved s urf ace, make sure the ground surf ace is f irm, especially under the center stand. To lower the side stand, use your f oot to guide it down.

Always take the ignition key with you. Always use the steering lock (page ), even if you’re parking f or just a minute or two.
