T he mos t impor tant t hings you need t o know a bout y our air bags a re: T hey are design ed t o supplement the seat belts. R emember howev er, t hat no sa f et y system can prev ent all injures or deaths that can o ccur in a severe crash, even when seat belts are proper ly wor n and t he a irbags de ploy.

If y o u si t to o cl o se to the stee rin g whee l or dashboa rd, you ca n be seriously injure d by an inf lat ing f ront air bag, or by st riking t he st eer ing whee l or dashboa rd.
R eclining a sea t-ba ck so t hat t he shoulder pa rt of t he be lt no longe r rest s against the occupant’s chest reduc es t he prot ect ive ca pabilit y of the belt . It also increases the cha nce of sliding under t he belt in a c rash and being ser iously injured.
Posit ion the la p part of t he belt as low a s possible ac ross your hips, t hen pull up on t he shoulder par t of t he belt so t he lap par t f its snugly. T his let s your st rong pe lvic bones tak e the f o rce of a cra sh and re du ce s th e chance of int erna l injuries.
Af ter all occu pants h ave adju sted their seat s and h ea d restraints, a nd put on t heir se at belt s, it is v ery i m p o rtan t th at th ey co nti nu e to si t upright , well bac k in t heir sea ts , wit h the ir f ee t o n the f l oo r, un til th e vehi cle is saf ely p arked an d the engine is of f .
If you a re pre gnant , the be st wa y t o prot ect y ourself and y our unborn child w hen driv ing or riding in a vehi cle is t o always wear a seat bel t , and keep t he lap part of the belt as low a s possible a cross t he hips.
If your han ds or arms are cl ose to an airb ag cove r, they c ould be i njure d if t he a irbag inf lat es. Carryin g hard or sharp object s on your la p, or driv ing wit h a pipe o r other sharp object in your mout h, ca n result in injurie s if your f ront air bag inf lat es.
Y our seat belt syst em includes la p/ shoulder belt s in a ll seat ing posit ions. T he f ront sea t belt s ar e also equipped w ith a utoma tic sea t belt te nsioners.

If you ever have a m od erate to sev ere f ront al collis ion, sensors w ill d ete ct th e veh ic le ’s rap id decele rat ion. T his ca n happe n if t he sev erit y of a collision is a t t he ma rgin, or thr esh ol d, tha t d ete rmi ne s whe the r or not the a irbags w ill deploy.

T he driver’ s ad vanced f ro nt airbag system includes a seat position sensor under t he seat . If t he sea t is t oo f ar f orwa rd, t he a irbag w ill inf late wit h l ess f orce, regardless of the severity of t he impact. Y our f ront air bags a re also a dvanc ed airb ags.
Moving t he f r ont sea t f orcibly back again st cargo on th e s eat or f loor behind it . Mo vin g the front seat or seat-bac k f or cibly bac k aga inst t he f olded rear s eat. Be aware that o bjects placed on t he passenger’s sea t can also cause t he airb ag to b e turn ed off .
If t he side a irbag of f indicat or come s on (s ee page ), hav e the passenge r sit upright . Once t he passenge r is out of t he airba g’s deployment pat h, t he syst em w ill tu rn the ai rbag b ack on , a nd the indicat or w ill go out .
If t he impact is on the passenger ’s side, t he passenge r’s side c urta in airb ag wil l in f late eve n if t he re are n o occupant s on tha t s ide of t he vehicle. If th e S RS in di cato r d oe s no t c o m e o n af ter yo u turn th e i g n i ti o n swit ch t o the ON ( II) posit ion.
Thi s i nd ic ator al er ts y ou tha t th e passe nger’s f ront ai rbag has been shut of f because weight sensors det ect about 65 lbs ( 29 k g) or less (t he w eight of an inf ant or sma ll child) on t he f ront pass enger’s sea t. It does there is a p roble m wi th the ai rb ag.

− Duri ng a c rash, the belt could pres s deep int o th e child and cause seriou s or f atal in juri es. If they do, they could be v ery ser iously injur ed in a crash. Childre n who pla y in v ehicles ca n acc identa lly get t rappe d inside. T ea ch your c hildren not t o play in or a round ve hicles.
A n inf a nt mus t be prope rly res tra ined in a re ar-f acing, re clining child sea t unt il t he child re aches t he sea t ma ker’s w eight or h eight limit f or t he sea t, and t he child is a t lea st one year ol d. Only a r ear -f a cing child sea t prov ides proper suppor t f or a ba by’s he ad, neck, and ba ck.
CONT INUED In any of t hese situat ions, we str ongly recomme nd tha t you inst all th e child seat direct ly behind t he f ront passenger’s seat, move the seat as f ar f orward as nee ded, and l eave it unoccupied. O r, you may wish t o get a sma ller r ear -f a cing child sea t.

T o inst all a L A T C H-compat ible child seat : Move the seat belt buckle or t ongue awa y f rom t he lowe r anch ors. Make sure t here are no objects near t he a nchors t hat could prevent a secure connection b etw ee n the ch il d sea t an d the anch ors.

When not using the L A T CH syst em, all chi ld seats must be secured to the vehic le wit h t he lap pa rt of a la p/ shoulder belt . Wit h t he child s eat in t he des ired sea ting posit ion, rout e.
A f t er c onf irming t hat the belt is locked , grab t he sh oulder par t of the belt near the buckle, and pull up t o remove any s lack f rom the lap pa rt of t he be lt. R eme mber, if the l ap pa rt o f the be lt is no t ti gh t, t he child sea t w ill not be s ecure.
A f t er pr operly s ecuring t he child seat (se e page ), lif t t he head re strai nt, the n ro ute the tethe r strap over t he seat-bac k an d th rough the hea d rest ra int legs. T o det ermine if a la p/shoulder belt proper ly f it s a child, ha ve t he child put on t he seat belt , t hen ask yourself : Does t he c hild sit a ll the w ay ba ck agai nst the seat? Do t he child.
A chil d who has o utgrown a f orward- f a cing child se at should ride in a back seat and use a boo ster se at unt il the la p/shoulder belt f it s t hem proper ly wit hout t he boost er.
If t he passen ger’s f ro nt ai rbag inf lates in a moderate t o severe f r onta l collision, t he a irbag ca n caus e ser ious injuries t o a child who is unres tra ined, imprope rly re str ained, si ttin g to o cl o se to the air b ag , or ou t of posit ion.

Make sure t he rear window is clear and y ou have good v isibility bef ore sta rtin g to dri ve. T he def ogger a nd ant enna w ires on th e inside of t he rea r window ca n be acc identa lly dama ged. Whe n cleaning t he gla ss, alwa ys wipe side- to -s id e.
Make sure you have securely locked t he steering wheel in p lace by t rying t o move it up, dow n, in, and out. Pu sh the le ver up to l o ck the st eering w heel in posit ion. Push the lev er under t he st eering column all the wa y down. Move the steering wheel u p or down, a nd in or out , so it point s toward your chest, not toward your f ace .
Y o us h o u l dh a v er e c e i v e dak e y number t ag w ith your set of keys . Y ou will ne ed this ke y number if you ever have t o g et a key replaced. Use only Honda -appr oved ke y blank s. T he valet key works on ly in the ignit ion and t he door loc ks.

− − − − If t he f ro nt wheel s are turn ed, t he ant i-t hef t loc k may ma ke it dif f icult to turn th e ke y. Firm ly tur n the steering wheel to the lef t or right as you turn the key. Yo u ca n o p er ate the aud io s ys tem and the accessory power sockets in this posit ion.
Each door has a lock t ab next t o the inside door handle . Pull the t ab out t o lock t he door, and pus h it in t o unlock t he door . T o lock any p asse ng er’s doo r whe n g etti ng ou t o f the ve h i cl e, pu ll the lock t ab out , and c lose the door.
T o lock the passenger’s door when get ting out of t he ve hicle, pull out t he lock t ab and close t he door. T o lock t he dr iver’ s door, r emove t he key f rom the ignit ion swit ch and pull out t he lock t ab or push t he top of the ma ster swi tch , the n c lo se the door.

L ocks all doors w hen the shif t lever is moved out of t he Park ( P) posit ion (A /T vehicles only). Make sure t he shif t lev er is in the Par k (P) posit ion. Turn the ig ni tio n sw itch to the ON (II) posit ion, and ma ke sur e to close t he dr iver’ s door.
