Introduction This rotar y-blade, w alk-behind lawn mow er is intended to be used by residential homeowners or professional, hired operators. It is designed primarily for cutting grass on w ell-maintained lawns on residential or commercial proper ties.

• If petrol is spilled, do not attempt to start the engine but mo ve the mow er aw ay from the area of spillage and av oid creating any source of ignition until petrol vapors ha ve dissipated. • R e place all fuel tank and container caps securely .
• Allow the engine to cool before storing in any enclosure. • T o reduce the re hazard, k ee p the engine , silencer , batter y compartment and petrol storage are free of g rass , leav es, or ex cessive grease.
Safety and Instructional Decals Safety decals and instructions are easily visible to the operator and are located near any area of potential danger . Operation Note: Deter mine the left and right sides of the machine from the nor mal operating position. Each time before y ou mow , mak e sure that the self-propel driv e and the blade control bar operate properly . When y ou release the blade control bar , the blade should stop .
Filling the Fuel T ank F or best results , use clean, fresh, lead-free petrol with an octane rating of 87 or higher . T o ensure freshness , purchase only the quantity of petrol that you expect to use in 30 days . Using unleaded petrol results in few er combustion deposits and longer engine life .
Important: Do not ll the tank more than 1/4 inch (6 mm) from the top of the tank because the petrol must hav e room to expand. 4. Install the fuel tank cap and wipe up any spilled petrol. Starting the Engine 1. Connect the wire to the spark plug (Figure 12).
Disengaging the Blade R elease the blade control bar . Important: When y ou release the blade control bar , the blade should stop within 3 seconds. If it does not stop proper ly , stop using y our mo wer immediately and contact an Authoriz ed Ser vice Dealer .
Adjusting the cutting height lev er s could bring y our hands into contact with a mo ving blade and result in serious injur y . • Stop the engine and w ait for all mo vement to stop befor e adjusting the cutting height. • Do not put y our ngers under the housing when adjusting the cutting height.
Mowing with the Grass Bag A wor n grass bag could allow small stones and other similar de bris to be thrown in the operator’s or bystander’ s direction and result in serious personal injur y or death to the operator or bystanders. Check the grass bag frequently .
• F or light leaf cov erag e , set all the wheels at the same cutting height setting . • If there are more than 5 inches (12.7 cm) of leav es on the la wn, set the front cutting height 1 or 2 notches higher than the rear cutting height. This makes it easier to feed the lea ves under the mower housing .

Lubricating the Gear Case Ser vice Inter v al: Every 100 hours After every 100 operating hours , grease the gear case. 1. R emove the g rass bag . 2. Install a grease gun onto the tting through the belt cov er opening (Figure 22). Figure 22 3. Gently apply one to 2 pumps of #2 multi-purpose lithium-base grease.
6. R emove the foam pre-cleaner and w ash it with a mild detergent and water , then blot it dr y . 7. Saturate the pre-cleaner with oil, then squeeze it (do not twist) to remov e the ex cess oil. 8. Install the foam pre-cleaner . 9. Install the new paper air lter .

Fuel System Maintenance Emptying the Fuel T ank and Cleaning the Fuel Filter Ser vice Inter v al: Y early The fuel lter (screen) element is located inside the fuel tank. Clean the fuel lter element yearly . 1. Stop the engine and wait for it to cool down.

halves together . Mount the screws or bolts in the opposing holes (Figure 31). 5. Check the alignment of all parts and tighten the screws , alternating from side to side for a uniform t, until the wheel halv es are drawn together (Figure 31).
Figure 33 1. Spring 3. Cable clamp screw 2. Brake cable conduit 6. Hold the blade control bar so that the outside of the bar is 5-1/2 inches (14 cm) from the outside of the handle, and pull the cable to the remo ve the slac k, but do not put tension on the spring (Figure 34).
Blade Maintenance Maintaining the Cutting Blade Alwa ys mow with a sharp blade . A sharp blade cuts cleanly and without tearing or shredding the grass blades . Complete the following procedure before inspecting, removing , or installing the blade: 1. Stop the engine and wait for all moving par ts to stop .
Balancing the Blade 1. Check the balance of the blade b y placing the center hole of the blade o ver a nail or screwdri ver shank clamped horizontally in a vise (Figure 38). Figure 38 Note: Y ou can also chec k the balance using a commercially man ufactured blade balancer .
Tipping the mo wer may cause the fuel to leak from the carburetor or the fuel tank. P etr ol is extremely ammable, highly explosi ve, and, under certain conditions, can cause personal injur y or proper ty damage. Av oid fuel spills by r unning the engine dr y or by removing the petrol with a hand pump; nev er siphon.
Storage T o prepare the mow er for off-season storage, perform the recommended maintenance procedures . R efer to Maintenance. Store the mo wer in a cool, clean, dr y place .
T roubleshooting Problem Possible Cause Corrective Action 1. The fuel tank is empty or the fuel system contains stale fuel. 1. Drain and/or ll the fuel tank with fresh petrol. If the problem persists, contact an Authorized Service Dealer . 2. The throttle lever is not in the Choke position.
