1 Introduction The APC Sm art-UPS® RT is a h igh-perform ance, uninterruptibl e power su pply (UPS) th at provides protection for electron ic equipment from utility po wer blackou ts, brownouts, sags an d surges.
2 A TTACH THE B EZEL TO THE UPS H ARDWIRING I NST RUCTIONS 5000 VA MODE LS O NLY : • Wiring must be performed by a qualified el ectrician. • Adhere to all national and local electrical codes. • Install a high magnetic 30/32 A utility circ uit breaker • Use #10 A WG gauge (5 mm 2 ) w i re.

4 C ONNECT THE E XTERNAL B ATTERIES Ba ttery Safe ty Read and adhere to the follow ing warnings when installing or serv icing the external batteries. Failure to observe these warn ings may result in serious inju ry, death or damage to th e equipment. W ARNINGS • Do not attempt to install or service external batteries alo ne.
5 T HIRD P ARTY B ATTERY S OLUTION Batteries mu st be Sealed Lead-Aci d type. Use 50 A, 250 VD C fuses with an Interrupt rating of ≥ 20,000 A . Ensure that the extern al batteries are w ired prior to connecting the batteries to the UPS.
6 C ONNECT E QUIPMENT AND P OWER TO THE UPS 1. Connect equ ip ment to the UPS. 2. 3000 VA models : Using a po wer cord, plug the UPS into a two-pole, three-wire, g ro unded receptacle only. Avoid using ext ension cords. 3. Turn on all conn ected equipment.
7 O PERA TION Load S MART -UPS RT F RONT D ISPLAY Battery Charge Indicator Description Online The Online LED il luminates when the U PS is drawing util it y po w er and perform ing double con version t o supply power to conn ected equipment. On Battery The UPS is supplying battery po w er to the connected equipm ent.
8 Feature Function Cold Start This is not a normal conditio n. When there is no utility po w er and the UPS is off, press and hold the button to power up th e UPS and connected equipment. The UPS will emit two beeps. During the second beep, release the button.

11 C ONNECT THE EPO (E MERGENCY P OWER O FF ) O PTION The output pow er can be disabled in an emergency by clos ing a switch connected to the EPO. Adhere to national and local electrical codes wh en wiring the EPO. Wiring must be performed by a qualified electrician.
12 T ERMI NAL M OD E TO C ONFIG URE UPS P ARAMETER S Terminal Mode is a menu driven interface that enables configuration of the UPS and allows confi gura tion b y user s who do no t wis h to use P ower Chute soft ware o r an o ptio nal W eb car d. Connect the serial cable f ro m the computer to th e serial com connector on the back o f the UPS.
