1 Introduction The APC Sm art-U PS® RT is a hi gh-perf ormance, unin terruptibl e pow er supply (UPS) t hat provides protection for electron ic equipm ent from utility power blackou ts, brownouts , sags and surges .
2 A TTACH THE B EZEL TO TH E UPS H ARDWIRING I NST RUCTIONS • Wiring must be perform ed by a qu alif ied electrici an. • Adhere to all national and local electrical codes. • Install a utility circuit breaker for input wiring, (see tables belo w ).
3 1. Switch the UPS input circuit breaker (see A in diagram ) and utility circuit breakers OFF. 2. Remove the input acces s panel, (see B in diag ram). 3. Remo ve circ ular knoc kout. 4. Run appropriate size w ire through the acces s panel, and connect to th e terminal block, (Green: Ground, Brown: Hot, Blue: Neutral).
4 C IRCUIT B REAKERS 8000/1000 0 VA Input Circ uit Break er The input circuit breaker must be s w itched on for the UPS to o perate. The input circuit break er protects the UPS from extreme overload conditions.
5 C ONNECT THE E X TERNAL B ATTERI ES Ba tte ry Sa fety Read and adhere to the follow ing warnings when installing or servicing the external batteries. Failure to observe these warn ings may result in serious injury, d eath or dam age to the equipment.
6 T HIRD P ARTY B ATTERY S OLUTION Batteries mu st be Seal ed Lead-Acid ty pe. Use 50 A, 250 V DC fu ses with an Interrupt rating of ≥ 20,000 A . Ensure that the extern al batteries are wired prior to connecting the batteries to the UPS. Two se parate, isol ated 192 V bat tery systems are requ ired wh en using a th ird party battery solution.
7 C ONNECT E QUIP MENT AND P OWER TO TH E UPS 1. Connect equ ipment to the UPS. 2. Turn on all conn ected equipment. To use the UPS as a master ON/OFF switch, ensure all connected equ ipment is switched ON. The eq uipment will not be po w ered until the UPS is turned on .
8 T ERMI NAL M ODE TO C ONFI GURE UPS P AR AMETER S AND P ROGRAM THE N UMBER OF B ATTERY P ACKS Terminal Mode is a menu driven interface that enables enhanced configuration of the UPS. Connect the serial cable f rom the computer to the serial com conn ector on the back of the UPS.
9 O PERA TION Load S MART -UPS RT F RONT D ISPLAY Battery Charge Indicator Description Online The Online LED il luminates w hen the UPS is drawing ut ility pow er and perf orming double con versi on to su pply power to con nected equi pment. On Battery The UPS is supplying battery power to the con nected equipm ent.
10 Feature Function Normal/Bypa ss Manual bypass enables t he user to manually put con nected equipment into bypass mode. Wh ile in by pass mode th e utility power bypas ses the UPS and g oes directly to the connected equipment. Batter y operation is not available wh ile the UPS is in bypass mode.

13 C ONNECT THE EPO (E MERGENCY P OWER O FF ) The output pow er can be disabled in an em ergency by closing a switch connected to the EPO. Adhere to national and local electrical codes wh en wiring the EPO. Wiring must be performed by a qualified electrician.
