1 Introduction About Your New UPS This Uninte rruptible Powe r Supply ( UPS) is desig ned to prev ent black outs, brow nouts, sag s and surg es f rom r eaching your compu ter and other va luable elec tronic equipm ent.
2 2. Hardwire the Electrical Connection Caution: The electrical connection m ust be m ade by an authorized electrician according to national and local regulations. Verify that the supply line conta ins a 25 Ampere circuit breaker BEFORE hardwiring the UPS.
3 3. Connect the Ext ernal Batteries The SU5000UXI contai ns no in ternal batt eries. The fig ure sh ows the location of th e battery pack connector on th e UPS. Battery pack connectors are color coded; th e 48 Vdc UXBP48M connector is blue . Battery pack connectors are als o keyed to prev ent im proper connection .
4 5. Install PowerChute and A ccessories For additional computer system security , install PowerChu te UPS monitoring softw are. It provides automatic u nattended shutdow n capabilities on most m ajor network operating system s. Once Pow erChute is loaded, install the PowerChute ® black com mu nication cable betw een UPS and com puter.
5 Use the HyperTerm inal Program to change the num ber of external battery pack s Hy perTermin al is u sed for Wi ndow s 95, Win dow s 98, and Wi ndow s NT 4.0 1. EXIT out of the PowerChute ® plus Server . In the cas e of Win dows NT, the UPS serv ice mu st be st opped.
6 Initial S t artu p Charge the ba ttery The UPS charges its battery w henever it is con nected to utility pow er. The battery w ill charge f ully durin g the fi rst four hours of norm al operation. Do not expect full runtim e during th is initial charge period.
7 Operating Instructions Switch On — Switch Off With the UPS p lugged in, press a nd re lease the large up per on/test button t o supp ly power to the load s. T he loa ds are imm ediately pow ered wh ile the UPS beeps and perf orms a self-t est. Press and release the s mall, low er of f button to tu rn off pow er to the loads.
8 Load Bar Gra ph 85% 67% 50% 33% 17% The 5-LED display on the lef t of th e front panel repres ents the pow er draw n f rom th e UPS as a percentage of total capacity. For exam ple, if three LEDs are lit, th e load is drawing betw een 50% and 67% of the UPS’s capac ity.

Note: The SU5000U XI is de signed for us e with the UXBP48M or equivalent 48 Vol t battery pack.
