3 2: I NST A LLING THE B A TTERY P ACK The APC 3U Rack Mount Battery Pack prov ides extended protection to saf eguard your com puter and other valu able electronic equipmen t. T he extern al battery pack also provides extra protection wh ile replacing the batteries in the UPS.
4 P LACEMENT R EVIEWING C ONNECTORS ON THE B A TTERY P AC K Battery Pack Connector Use the battery pack connector to daisy-ch ain multiple battery packs to the sam e UPS.
5 R EMOVING THE B ATTERY T RAYS F ROM THE B ATTERY P ACK The battery pack is heavy . To ligh ten it, remove the battery trays before moun ting the unit in th e rack. The battery tray s are accessible from the front of th e battery pack (shown at left).
6 R EINSTALLI NG THE B ATTERY T RAYS AND A TTACHING TH E F RONT B EZEL 1. Supportin g the battery tray on the bottom, al ign it with the battery pack opening and slide the tray in to the com partment. 2. Replace the tw o screws to secure the battery pack face plate.
7 Both the UPS and the extern al battery pack are shipped w ith rear connector plu gs in- stalled. 2. Facing the rear of the battery pack, locate th e battery pack connector . 3. Insert the battery pack connector in to the rear connector on the back of the UPS.
8 2. Insert the battery pack connector in to the rear connector on the back of th e other battery pack. When m ultiple battery packs are used, be sure the rear connector plug remains con- nected to the last battery pack in the stack only, otherw ise the battery w ill not be con- nected.

10 U SING TH E T E RMINAL P ROGRAM TO C HANGE THE N UMBER OF E XTERNAL B ATTER Y P ACKS Termin al is used i n Window s 3.1x, Window s for Work groups, and Wi ndows NT 3.51. 1. EXIT the PowerC hute plus Serv er. In Window s NT, the UPS Servi ce must be s topped.
11 4: S T O RA GE AND R EPLA CEM ENT S TORAG E S TORAGE C ONDITIONS Store the battery pack covered and fl at (rack mount orientation) in a cool, dry lo cation, w ith its bat- tery fully charged. Disco nnect any cab les connected to the computer interface port to avoid unneces- sarily drainin g the battery.
12 3. Use a screw driver to remove th e two battery pack mou nt screws located at the top corners of the bat- tery tray face plate . Set the screw s aside in a safe place. You will replace them later. 4. Locate the battery tray handle . 5. Be careful durin g this step—the tray is heavy .
13 S ERVICE If the un it requires service, do not return it to the dealer. Instead, follow th ese step s: 1. Review the problem s discu ssed in the T roubleshooting section of the User’ s Manual for your UPS to eliminate com mon problem s. 2. Verify that no circuit breakers are tripped.
