– 3 – I) INTRODUCTION Thank you for purchasing this water heater . Properly installed and maint ained, it will provide years of trouble free service. This manual gives instructions for the proper inst al- lation, safe operation and maintenance of this water heater .
Safety W ar ning (Flamma ble V apour s) There is a risk of property damage, personal injury or death from the by-products of combustion (e.g., flue gases), in using fuel-burning appliances such as water heaters. Areas that may not be suitable for water heater inst allation include those where flammable liquids, gasoline, solvents, adhe- sives etc.
III) INST ALLA TION Unpacking the W a ter Heater Import ant: Do not remove any permanent instructions, labels, or the data label from out side of the water heater or on the inside of panels. • Remove exterior packaging and place inst allation com- ponents aside.

T emperature & Pr essure Relief V alv e For protection against excessive pressure and/or tempera- tures, a temperature and pressure relief valve has been installed in the water heater . ANY REPLACEMENT V AL VE MUST NOT EXCEED THE TEMPERA TURE AND PRESSURE RA TING .
IV) OPERA TING INSTR UCTIONS Lighting instr uctions (R ober tshaw 110R) – 11 – 1. STOP! Read all safety labels on the water heater before operation. 2. Remove the outer door . 3. T urn the temperature dial counter-clockwise to it s lowest setting.
Lighting instr uctions (White-Rodgers 37C) – 12 – 1. STOP! Read the safety information above on this label. 2. Set the thermost at to lowest setting. 3. This appliance has a pilot that is lit by a sp ark gas ignition system. Do not try to light the pilot by hand.
Special note on propane fuel: L.P . GAS IS HEA VIER THAN AIR Should there be a leak in the system, the gas will settle at FLOOR LEVEL. Basements, crawl sp aces, closets and areas below ground level will serve as pockets for the accumulation of the gas.
V) MAINTENANCE INSTR UCTIONS General Housekeeping As a precaution against fire, and to maintain an adequate flow of combustion air to the heater: • keep the appliance area clear and free from com- bustible material, gasoline, and other flammable vapours and liquids.
VI) COMBO HEA TING When using this water heater in the application of a combi- nation space and pot able water heating system, be sure to follow instructions provided with the water heater and the manual shipped with the air handler . NOTE the following warnings: 1.
