-4- G1148 15" Bandsaw 9. USE PROPER EXTENSION CORD . Make sure your e xtension cord is in good condi- tion. Conductor size should be in accor- dance with the char t belo w . The amperage rating should be listed on the motor or tool nameplate. An undersized cord will cause a drop in line v oltage resulting in loss of pow er and ov erheating.

Dull blades require more eff or t to use and are difficult to con- trol. Inspect b lades before each use . 2. Ne ver position fingers or thumbs in line with the cut, use a push stick.
-6- G1148 15" Bandsaw 110V Operation SECTION 2: CIRCUIT REQ UIREMENTS A 15-amp slow-b low fuse or circuit break er should be used on the 110V circuit this bandsaw is connected to . Circuits rated any higher are not adequate to protect the motor from pow er surges.

-8- G1148 15" Bandsaw Unpac king The bandsaw is shipped from the f actor y in a carefully pack ed car ton. If y ou find the machine to be damaged after you’v e signed f or delivery and the truck and driver are already gone , you will need to file a freight claim with the carrier .
G1148 15" Bandsaw -9- Clean Up The unpainted surf aces are coated with a waxy oil to protect them from corrosion during ship- ment. Remov e this protective coating with a sol- v ent cleaner or citr us-based degreaser . A void chlorine-based solvents as the y may damage painted surf aces should they come in contact.
-10- G1148 15" Bandsaw SECTION 4: ASSEMBL Y Beginning Assembl y Most of your bandsa w has been assemb led at the f actor y . The remainder of the machine should be f air ly easy to assemble in y our shop . The assem- bly process is organiz ed in steps.

We strongly recommend that y ou get assistance. The bandsa w unit is also ver y unsta- ble until it is permanently mounted to the stand.
G1148 15" Bandsaw G1148 15" Bandsaw -12- Bandsa w T ab le 5. Adjust the V -Belt tension b y sliding the motor along the slots. Proper tension is achie ved when the belt can be deflected appro ximately 3 / 4 " with moderate finger pressure.
G1148 15" Bandsaw -13- DO NO T attempt to operate this machine before completing the assemb ly and adjust- ment instructions. Be sure that the switch is off and the cord is disconnected fr om the power sour ce at all times until assembly and adjustment are complete and y ou have revie wed all safety guidelines.
-14- G1148 15" Bandsaw SECTION 5: ADJUSTMENTS Bandsa w Contr ols B E A F D A C General control and adjustment locations are shown in Figure 8 abov e and are descr ibed in this section. A. These two guard loc king knobs (#46) secure the upper and low er wheel covers (#24, #25).
G1148 15" Bandsaw -15- T ension/T rac king TRA CKING T o adjust trac king, disconnect the bandsaw from the pow er source and adjust the upper and lower guide assemblies a wa y from the blade . Loosen the lockn uts on the tracking control knobs and tur n the knobs clockwise or counter-cloc kwise while tur ning the upper wheel by hand.

G1148 15" Bandsaw -17- Make sure there is no deflection of the blade from the str aightedge. Measure the distance between the edge of the miter gauge slot and the straightedge at points A and B . See Figure 12. Distance A should be appro ximately equal to distance B.
-18- G1148 15" Bandsaw Align the f ence to the miter slot by first loosening the two (2) bolts (#109) nearest the operator . Lock the low er lock knob and measure between the front edge of the f ence (#114) and the front edge of the miter slot. Compare this to a measurement taken at the bac k of the f ence and the miter slot.
G1148 15" Bandsaw -19- Pre-Run Chec k Bandsa w Blades SECTION 6: OPERA TIONS The bandsaw is one of the most v ersatile machines in the shop . It can cut miters, com- pound angles, simple and comple x cur ves , cir- cles, and a wide v ariety of irregular shapes.

G1148 15" Bandsaw -21- Stac ked Cuts One of the benefits of a bandsaw is its ability to cut multiple copies of a par ticular shape by stac k- ing a number of workpieces together . Bef ore making stack ed cuts, it is essential to ensure that both the table and the b lade are prop- erly adjusted to 90°.
G1148 15" Bandsaw G1148 15" Bandsaw -22- Cutting Curves When cutting cur ves , simultaneously f eed and tur n the stock carefully so that the b lade f ollows the la yout line without being twisted.
G1148 15" Bandsaw -23- SECTION 7: MAINTENANCE V -Belts T o ensure optimum po wer transmission from the motor to the blade , the V -belt must be in good condition and operate under proper tension. Belts should be check ed f or cracks , fra ying and wear .
-24- G1148 15" Bandsaw Shielded and pre-lubricated ball bear ings require no lubrication for the lif e of the bearings. All bear- ings are standard sizes and replacements can be purchased from our par ts department or bear ing supply store.
